We started our spring cleaning early this year, not because we are hoping for spring just yet, but because I wanna be ready when it does appear. We spent the entire summer indoors last year due to oppressing heat, and now he we are again...indoors. I feel like I've been inside with either the heat or the air conditioning on for the past 9 months--it's like I've turned into one of my weirdo neighbors who never breath fresh air.
One third of the house was spiffed up with the visit of two painters this past week. They knocked out the family room, hallway and laundry room in no time, leaving us the weekend to polish the furniture and put the room back together again. Criminy...that is a job. Just washing all those knick-knacks and pictures is crazy--who saves all this crap anyway? Now I understand minimalism.
I'm sure we are a hoot to watch, but Joe and I work like a team--a dysfunctional Laurel & Hardy team. He's moving the couch one way, I'm turning it the other. He's carting off boxes and I'm bringing them back in to sort through them. We're carrying the tubs of water plants into the kitchen and he's got his end higher than mine, dumping cold water into my shoes and socks. We are entertaining, if not productive.
We have replaced all of the faceplates on the electrical sockets and cable outlets and still, we have 2 screws left over. Neither of us can figure where they belong, and we take turns holding them, looking around the room perplexed as to where they go. They sit on the mantel, still, and I think we are both secretly hoping they'll roll off and disappear under the couch--with the help of the cats.
Speaking of....
They found all of this disruption heavenly. I have never seen those two so joyfully sneak-attacking and beating the crap out of each other since the day we brought Hobbes home.
I'm going back to work to rest. sigh.

If there is one thing I dislike about renovating the house it's painting! All the covering up before and cleanung up after...Arrrgh.
You had me laughing with your description of how you and Joe "work" together. haha.
Hope your work day is less stressful and hope the kitties behave ;-)
It's good to keep the laughter up when working with one's spouse. Well...I know that helps me anyways. Haha! Happy cleaning!

It sounds like you had as good a time as possible. Just hold onto those screws. The moment you lose them is when you will realize where they go.
We have a "loose screw" drawer in the kitchen. We store those little pieces and parts that materialize around the house in that drawer. That way we don't lose it before we realize what it is needed for. Funny thing . . . That drawer only seems to gather more and more contents.
Dear Laurel and Hardy,
Your antics entertain this party!
(But you are not the only couple that "work together" in that fashion.)
Lovely photo - nicer to look at than experience - tho we did have an "ice" event here this morning..
Wow, that was a big project but I'll bet it looks so wonderful!
Those screws were erm, mating (this is a family blog) while in the box and now there are baby screws. That's all
Yup, nothing like a paint job to really force to you clean like you've never done before: polishing the baseboards, dusting in light fixtures, vacuuming parts of the floor that have seemingly never seen the light of day! I love how things like that make the kitties feel spunky too:) Are you gonna show off the new rooms???
Wanna come over? I need help just finding the top of the dining room table.
I'm not going to mention doing things like cleaning walls, floors or various tasks that desperatly need to be done.
"Cleaning the house while the children are growing is like shoveling the drive while its still snowing" ... that's my motto.
I can just see you two "working" together! Sounds like my hubby and I! LOL!!
What is it with cats liking disruption anyway? ;)
Even having someone else paint your house turned into an entertaining event with you and Joe! Glad the kitties enjoyed the whole thing too!
I'm highly impressed. You're unlikely to get me moving on a cleaning/sprucing up project of that magnitude.
Duni--Yeah, it's isn't the painting--it's the prep and clean up that is horrible. The room is back in order....and so is the family. :)
Catherine--You have to maintain a sense of humor when working together. Otherwise, we'd kill each other!
Anne--Those screws are driving us nuts!
Chuck--Do you ever use what's in that drawer? If you are like us, we just go out and buy new screws when we need them. Go figure.
Vanilla--I think you have to laugh or you will kill each other. Especially when you get cold water in your socks. Grrrrrr.
Grace--The ice was short-lived. It's gonna be 60 degrees here tomorrow.
Liz--Well, it wasn't really all that big because we didn't do it per se. I like the results of painting and cleaning--I just don't like all the prep work!
Patty--Well, that explains it!! Thank you! Now I can sleep. :)
Nancy--We typically wash walls and do all that in the spring. We are getting an early start because Em is graduating this year and will be really busy come spring. It's nice to have it done though. We painted nearly the same colors, so the rooms don't look "new", but they look brighter!
Winnie--I spring clean every year--much to the chagrin of my family. That said, I have a small house and a husband who helps a ton. That makes a difference.
Candy--Those cats were going NUTS! Oh, the hissing and spitting and chasing. Ugh! We were gonna kill them!
Beaded Tail--Everything is an adventure, Sharla. Seriously. We couldn't move the pond plants without him dumping the cold water in my socks!! And the cats were NUTS! I was gonna kill them.
Sharkey--Oh, I spring clean every year. I don't like the work, but I like the end result! We have a lot going on this spring with Em graduating, so we are getting an early start.
What a task you have undertaken! Our house needs a good sprucing up, including some of that painting and such. Yuk. I hate the thought of it but its got to be done one of these days.
You'll be so proud of yourselves and the house once all the cleaning is done.
Theirs nothing like a fresh coat of paint to renew a room. Sounds like you guys are working hard getting the place all spiffy!weird about those screws tho!
Yes, I use those parts in the drawer. Or I go to my salvaged supplies in the basement. Rarely do I have to purchase something like that.
