Me: "Joe. We have to start washing walls and Spring cleaning this weekend."
Joe: "Does that mean 'wall washing and stuff'?"
Me: "Yep."
Joe: "Why do we do that? I mean, I never heard of anyone wall washing like you always do."
Me: "Well, you like the house clean and that makes it nice and clean. And besides, I like the smell of Soilax."
Joe: "They don't even make that stuff anymore."
Me: "Yeah, well, you can get the generic. Too bad. We're doing it. This weekend."
Joe: (silence)
Me: "I don't think we need to do the ceiling in our room though--it looks pretty clean."
Joe: (thinking) "Can't we just do a dry wipe?"
Me: "What the hell is a 'dry wipe'?"
Joe: "You know, you just wipe the walls with a dry rag."
Me: "And what the hell does that do?"
Joe: "I dunno. It just seems like a whole lot less work."
Me: "Yeah. No."
This conversation is repeated every. Single. Spring.
And no, we never "dry wipe". Whatever the hell that is.

Is it that time again?...groan. I'm waiting til it's warmer and I can open the windows. It's still freezing here:(
What happens if Joe brings home Lysol instead of that other stuff that I never heard of before you wrote about it here in your blog today of all days? Huh? Just askin' . . .
The hell? You WASH your walls?
I wash the walls. Who doesn't?! Walls get grubby.
But count your blessings. There is NO WAY I could ever get husband to help. Wow.
I used to do that when I was single and lived in apartments - especially the ceilings - I am also a constant washer of doors and door frames - hate the smudges around the door knobs...I usually wash down the walls that are in easy reach whenever I see too many smudges...a magic eraser (any brand will do) is great for those ugly scuff marks (Do not push the furniture against the walls! I say..)
Oh yeah and it doesn't look like Grace thinks much of the idea either!
Men!
I just finished dusting in all those spots where you hardly ever dust. You know the tops of cupboards, light fixtures, the top shelf in your closet etc. Is dusting a dry wipe????
HAPPY EASTER, pally!
I have/sell a mop that makes EASY work of walls. :) And -- you just use WATER...no chemicals necessary! :) Have fun cleaning! Happy Easter, too!
I have never heard of or even thought of washing walls until you said it last year. I still haven't done it. I wash off dirty spots on walls when they happen - does that count?
I used to wash walls haven't done it in years though. A fresh coat of paint and you can't see the dirt anymore....lol
We used to have to wash the hallway walls every month or so...we had a black lab who would literally take her head and rub her ears against the walls. They would get nasty...now we can get away with doing that like once a year. lol
Hmmm, I have never heard of washing the walls before. Our walls must be filthy!
Men....
Though I must admit...
wouldn't it be easier to move instead of wash walls? ;)
xo Catherine
Well, do you at least have a pair of hip-waders for him?
A dry wipe sounds like it leaves a lot more mess! Sheesh...men are so stupid. M has this industrial sized broom thing that janitors sweep hallways with. He gets mad that I vacuum the floors instead of use his stupid janitor broom. He says the vacuum leaves behind more of a mess- yeah/no. See, I'm cleaning up cat hair/ dust, not stray pencils and balled up paper. Stupid.
Mom used to cook up, literally, a wallpaper cleaner. At least you don't have wallpaper. Do you?
Mary Ann--It's chilly here too, but we opened the windows and started washing walls, polishing the furniture and washing everything! It smells so clean!
Chuck--Lysol is NOT the same. And he knows it. He wouldn't dare.
Patty--Yep. If we aren't washing 'em, we're painting 'em. :) Joe hates this time of year. Hee! Hee!
Rebecca--Thank you, pally. I needed the back-up here. We have wood floors so things get dusty. I LOVE Spring cleaning time!
Grace--We hand wash the walls, wood floors, doors, etc. and polish the furniture. Also--all bedding comes off and is washed and typically hung out. Oh, it smells divine in this house! I'm glad to hear that you do this too.
Hot Rocks--I think so--I never ask Joe what that is. Don't you wash all that after dusting?? I do.
Sherrie--But we have to use Soilax or I don't feel like it is clean! It's an old family tradition. :) I come from a long line of cleaners.
Beaded Tail--That counts. :) I like to take apart the entire room and clean everything for the coming year. I love it when everything smells so fresh. I don't think Joe does as much though.
Ann--If we don't wash 'em, we paint 'em. ;) I love washing down the house each Spring, although we are slowing down as we get older and the kids aren't leaving as many fingerprints.
Silver--Yeah, the hallway always takes a beating. So does the bathroom. The cats rub their faces on the corners of walls. Yuck.
Daisy--Really???! Well, I come from a long line of Spring cleaners, I guess. Soilax runs in our blood! Don't worry--Joe never heard of Spring cleaning or wall washing before he met me either.
Catherine--But it SMELLS so nice and clean when you are done! It's a lot of work, but then the whole room is spiffed up--curtains washed, bed linens changed for summer, furniture polished....
Jerry--Only if he is cleaning out the pond. ;)
Nancy--Guys are dumb when it comes to Spring cleaning. Joe just wants the easy way out. That doesn't work around here. But I did let him have The Masters on the TV while he was washing. That was nice of me, wasn't it?
Vanilla--Really??! I've never heard of that. We don't have wallpaper anymore, but I used to wash that too--but with Soilax. We're big on Soilax around here.
I spot clean. Once a year. Maybe.
I'm still going to get a I Love Joe t-shirt.
I'm laughing here at the what the hell
