Who lives in a blobular vessel?

Am I am the only person in the entire universe who can work out 3 or 4 days a week and not lose weight?  What gives??

Okay, I eat pretty healthy because of the GERD. There are lots of fresh fruits and veggies in my diet.  I eat oatmeal with Silk on it for breakfast....every freaking day.  We don't eat fried or fast foods.  We eat healthy--mainly baked chicken breast with no skin and veggies for dinner.

And yet......no weight loss.

I drink only water--with a few glasses of wine every now and then (unless it is the Jazz Band Dinner Dance). There are no soft drinks or juices.  There is no dessert--in fact I don't like ice cream or cookies. I eat yogurt, people. Every. Single. Day. for lunch.

I will credit my new metabolism gratis menopause, but really?  NO weight loss after working out 4 times a week?  Really??!

Criminy.  Almost makes me want to grab a noodle and join the old gals in the shallow end.

Sigh.

Yeah, the menopause thing is a b***ch. But it might take a bit longer to see the results but they will come - results slow down along with the metabolism. Do it for the pleasure - I totally loved going to the gym - exercising is such a high - I'm a weight-training lover myself - I was working heavier weights than people 30 years younger than me. I hope I can get back to a gym when we move.

Love the photo, as always!

Cheers!

I started eating differently over a month ago and have only dropped a few pounds. It's so discouraging.
I feel you pain.

Oh, my. How often our expectations and our achievements do not match at all. Several years ago I joined a fitness club. I worked out conscientiously and assiduously. I gained weight! My trainer said, "Muscle weighs more than fat. You are making a good exchange!" So there you go!

You certainly live a healthy life-style. I can't do it. Have to have my ice cream and corn chips.

You eat healthy and exercise..I say be happy with the way you are! We are all built differently.I have never owned a scale in my life and being a "well built" woman does not bother me one bit :)!

Oh, I'm the same way. Remember my kitchen renovation?? I was doing heavy construction work every day, all day. Because we had no kitchen, we ate sparingly. I didn't lose A POUND. Actually. I gained weight. I assume it was all muscle because of the hard work.

I don't lose weight easily. I think some people are just built that way.

Don't get discouraged Lin, it sounds like you are really on the right track...maybe just a bit of tweaking to the routine. I have lost 42 pounds...I am 53 and just went thru menopause. Here is what worked for me:
. Drink lots of water. I only have about 2 glasses of red wine per week, no other alcohol.I only use milk in my coffee, the rest of the time I use Almond milk (unsweetened)
· Cut out ALL "added sugars", which is any food that doesn't naturally contain sugars in it already. This includes all "junk food", sugary drinks (including juice) and most sauces and dips.
· Cut down high-fat foods, such as oils, cheese, red/dark meat, butter, margarine, etc.
·Started eating more lean meats such as chicken breast, shrimp, fish and pork tenderloin and some vegetarian meals.
· Cut out ALL the white flour, white pasta, white rice. I eat complex carbs higher-fibre foods.
(Bulgur, quinoa, 100% whole grains) Like you I eat Oatmeal every morning.
.Veggies will fill you up...be sure half your plate is veg.
.Kept my daily calorie intake to 1500/1600 calories per day.
.Watch your portion sizes! (This is huge)
.I keep a food journal tracking what I eat and my exercise.
I eat 6 times a day...google "Eating Clean"
. 6 months ago I started the Get Ripped fitness program by Jari Love. her workouts are a combination of cardio and weight training....weight training is so important for women our age, to gain the muscle which burns the calories! She lives in my area, so I am fortunate to go to her classes 3 times a week, then I also work out another 1-2 times per week on my own. Check out her DVDS...it is a tough workout..but you will get results! I have faith in you girl...if I can do this, any one can. Keep positive!!

The only time I've ever lost weight in my entire life regardless of diet or excercise was the five weeks of stress torture in Ukraine while adopting little guy. Weeks of tiny portions, strange food and miles of walking daily and did I mention the miserable stress of wondering just what in the hell I was doing in a FSU country? Lost 20 lb. The Ukrainian adoption diet, 20K plus a kid to raise, not for everybody.

WEll I can only say, be glad you aren't gaining any weight. It is so hard to lose weight for some people. I have always been that way. Eat next to nothing and not lose any weight.
Hobbes, you are looking good. Get those furs all clean now. Take care.

It seems that age does not favor us women. But our minds stay stronger and that is how we win.
Bwahahahahaha

I always have trouble losing weight too...I'm about to start a diet/exercise regimen but I kind of know that it won't do too much as far as weight.

Nancy said...

Ep...you don't even like ice cream??? WHO ARE YOU??? So you a) don't believe in sweat pants and b) don't like ice cream.

Sheesh. It's like I don't even know you- hahaha.

Anyway- good for you for working out so much though- stick to it! Think of working out as increasing your strength, flexibility, and cardio abilities rather than having anything to do with weight loss. Because really, it doesn't do much in terms of that unless you are really a couch potato. But you know, you are beautiful the way you are and I wouldn't worry over it!

I don't lose very much weight either and I'm constantly outside doing things and I don't eat much most of the time either. I used a treadmill heavily for awhile and I wasn't losing weight, but then after awhile it started pouring off. As soon as I stopped the treadmill it all came back.

Ann said...

All that working out is creating muscle and muscle weighs more than fat so even though you may not see a loss on the scale you are still moving in the right direction. :)

My Mommeh cannot lose those pesky 5-10 pounds, either. Of course, she doesn't eat right or exercise enough.

Now that would be super frustrating, for sure! You're doing everything right, too!

Grace--Okay, I'll stick it out. Thanks for the encouragement, Grace. I hope you get back to the gym too. :) Won't that be fun?!

Mary Ann--He's proud of his blobular vessel!

Diane--VERY. Discouraging. :(

Duni--Yeah, but don't dare touch them! Hahaha!

Melodie--My clothes are getting tight, otherwise I'm okay with my body. I have a weight that I feel good at--I'm going over that weight.

Rebecca--It's a life-long battle for me. I get tired of it, but I have to watch every single bite that goes in the pie hole. And that is just to maintain my weight!

Hot Rocks--I'm a lifelong member of Weight Watchers so I do most of what you wrote. (THANK YOU for taking the time to write all of that!) Right now, we have to focus on small meals and we are adjusting to that. It's tough, though. And alcohol. We go out a lot and have to cut down on that.

Winnie--Oh my. WOW! What an experience that was!

Marg--I'm one of those people--it's hard for me to lose weight. I watch EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth. And while Joe eats, I gain weight. :(

Pricilla--I dunno, I think guys suffer as much as we do. I think society is just harder on us gals as we age.

Silver--I think it's good to be healthy first and foremost. Start with that and the rest will come--you are still young.

Nancy--Are your ready for this??? I don't like bacon. There. I said it. Now it's official--I'm a weirdo! Hahaha! I continue with walking and the swimming for those very reasons--to get healthy. I just don't like my clothes fitting differently as I age. And I don't like them getting tight!

Ratty--Isn't that hard to keep going? I just want to maintain an easy routine that I can continue long term.

Ann--I hope so. I just want my clothes to fit better.

Daisy--Tell her I said "Don't bother"! Hahaha! Just kidding. :)

Every time I get the motivation to work out on that evilliptical I gain weight! I change nothing else but working out and the scale goes up. Frustrates me to no end. I guess there's something about eating too little that keeps our bodies from letting go of weight and also exercising causes water retention in the muscles as they adapt and rebuild themselves from the workouts. Whatever it is it is very discouraging but I guess we have to keep going and see what happens!

Lin said...

Liz--Well, I think I'm doing things right, but apparently I'm not. My body is really changing these days, so I hope it settles down and lets me get used to the new "me".

Beaded Tail--It is so hard to keep motivated when you don't see positive changes. :( I'll keep going if you keep going!

Join the club! It's true, menopause is a bitch!!

How about adding tofu to your diet?

Lin said...

Veronica--Isn't it?? Ugh. We eat tofu about twice a week. It's our attempt at vegan a couple of meals a week. I'm up a pound today. Kill. Me.

Nancy said...

No bacon??? Wow. I disown you. (ok, not really- i don't like bacon all that much either. it's yummy, but only occasionally).

It's all so frustrating isn't it? Boooo to a low metabolism gratis menopause!!!!! sigh... pass me a stick of celery please....

I feel your pain. My medication and pre menopause has made my weight impossible to move down. It is getting really frustrating.

I hear ya! (I don't eat quite as healthy as you describe), but I can't seem to shake the 10 pounds I added a year ago.

Lauren said...

I just lose the same five that I gain and then lose them... again. Seriously though I have lost a few since upping my calorie intake. I think I was in starvation mode where the body hangs onto everything.

Lin said...

Nancy--I hate the smell in my house. It seems to linger FOREVER. blech.

Catherine--Oh, if the celery would help!

Noel/Lydia--Oh, I'm stuck at this number FOREVER. And it is NOT a good one. :(

Sharkey--I slowly crept up there over the last 4 years and I don't like it. I'm upping the exercise hoping that moving more will boost the metabolism. Even just 5 pounds would help!

Lauren--I find I can't eat large meals anymore, so I'm really cutting back--but still, no weight loss. It's very weird to get older.
