Nothing says fun like Weiner Dog Weekend! And sure enough, when Sammy comes to stay, things definitely get stirred up around the old homestead. But in a good way.
He seems a whole lot less stressed than last year, but we have to watch and make sure he doesn't get those pearly whites wrapped around anything he isn't supposed to. When he was here last summer, Sam had a little anxiety and chewed up a rug, the wood on the door frame, and a seatbelt for the car. Yeah, it was an expensive anxiety attack. We think it was because one of the boys was going off to college, so there was lots of turmoil at home before he came here. Then there were more boxes here as Col was leaving as well. Too many boxes = stress for Sammy.
So, we are box and stress free and Sammy is a calmer dog friend. But we still have to crate him when we aren't watching him.....just in case.
Everyone enjoys Sammy's visit in different ways and it is odd on who handles it the worst. You'd think Grace would hate him, but she doesn't. She walks around like he isn't even here. Hobbes is totally freaked out and spends the week with a raccoony tail. He also spends a LOT of time outside, escaping the dog. Joe gets all nervous and says "Where's Sammy?" all the time. Em takes him for walks and I just have to wake up at 5:00 a.m. to get him off the bed and take him outside.(Apparently his family gets up at 5.) But it's a good diversion from everyday life and we all sort of like having a dog for the week.
And I will spend the next 5 days singing "Weeeeee. Weiner dog...."

Seems Sammy's stay shakes the establishment up. Those darn Dachshunds do weasel their way into one's affections, for sure.
:) what a cute little face!
So cute!
I'm not surprised Hobbes is not happy the dog is there. Dogs are way more needy than cats, aren't they?
As long as you are not planning any weinie roasts....
Hope Sammy's visit goes smooth without any anxiety attacks.
LOL @ Patty Woodland's reply!!!
You are very nice to deal with a stressed-out chew master.
Hope the rest of Sammy's visit goes well! Sounds like it's a lot of fun for him at least.
*grimaces with disgust* I can't imagine babysitting a dog! UGH. You are Grace are very brave ladies. Hobbes, on the other hand.... lol
I guess he needs doggie downers!
Dachshunds are really cute dogs. But they are nervous little twits. I was afraid you were going to say, he grabbed a cat. Whew. It probably is fun to have a dog for a week.
Have a great evening.
You are so sweet to dogsit like that! I'm glad this year is calmer for Sammy. That's good for all of you!
Sweet. Ever since I posted about my puppy fever I have been reading blog posts about dogs and pups. Love it!! xo
Haha - poor kitties! So hard with a dog cramping your style. ;)
But such a cute pup!
xo Catherine
Vanilla--Aw, we love him and he's getting older. His mom watches our kitties while we are gone and she couldn't be more wonderful with them. It's nice that we have each other to take care of the pets. :)
Tracy--He's a cutie pie. :)
Silver--Yeah. We like having a dog for the week. Then he goes home. It's a perfect solution to a dog for us.
Karen--Aw, gees, Karen! It's CRAZY! I don't like that part of having a dog!
Patty--Nah. He's just getting older and I have to be patient with him.
Jean--No roastin' the weiner dog! He's better this time around. Thank goodness!
Sharkey--He's only done that twice--when we first had him over and then last summer. I think he was stressed out, but we are taking precautions to prevent that this time.
Beaded Tail--We all have fun. We even let him sleep with us so that he isn't too stressed out. Blech. I don't like that part very much. And neither does Hobbes!
Rebecca--Well, it's kind of nice to have a dog for a couple of days....then he goes home. His mom takes great care of our kitties when we go out of town, so it's worth it. He's a good boy.
Diana--I suggested that, but I think he is okay now that there isn't so much turmoil at his house. He came over as they were packing their firstborn for college. Everyone and everything was upset--including the dog. Then he got here and we had boxes all over for Colin. Poor dog was FRIED. He's much better now.
Marg--No, but it was an expensive freak out. Those car seat belts are NOT cheap!
Liz--He is doing much better this time around. He gets really sick and mean when he goes to the kennel, so we would rather have him here. Also, his mom takes wonderful care of our kitties when we are gone. It's a nice agreement we have.
Katherine--Isn't that funny how that happens??! :)
Catherine--Oh, Hobbes is NOT happy! Grace is used to him and she has given him a swipe or two on the nose in the past. He does not mess with her! Hobbes hasn't figured that out yet.
i am a dog lover too...i was really sad when our dog got sick last week..and now she is recovering.
REYAH'S KITCHEN
Awh, Sammy time! I think I mark the years I've read your blog by Sammy's visitis:) Isn't that a weird though?
Reyah--Hi, new pally! Well, I'm not really a dog lover, but we dogsit for Sammy the Weiner Dog every once in awhile. He is nice enough and fits in well with our family, so we enjoy having him here...for a week. :) I hope your dog is feeling better!
Nancy--Isn't it funny how the blog pallies creep into your everyday life? There are times when I think...oh, I wonder if Nancy is still swimming or wouldn't it be fun to sew together? It's a weird, but fun friendship, isn't it? And now when you see Weiner dogs--you'll think of me.
Yup, and speaking of, I just posted a GORGEOUS quilt on your fb page that we need to make together somehow in dream land.
