Warm Waters

It seems to be the theme of my life lately--between the pond, the pool, and what I get myself into, warm water is all around me.

It's downright balmy here in Chicago this week. Temps are hovering in the upper 60's, possibly hitting 78 degrees on Wednesday.  Between the warm and the rain, the frogs have been officially awakened from hibernation.

Always a scary time for me, I peered out my window with the flashlight this morning to see how many sets of beady eyes I could find.  With the rain, the frogs were lured onto the rocks outside of the pond--they just love the rain on their skin.  It was great to see my old friends lined up, eyes a-shimmering, reflecting back 4 sets of little eyeballs staring back at me.  4 frogs made it through the winter--which isn't a bad lot.  Not bad at all. From what I can figure, I only lost one frog....and we already knew about that.

After nearly sweating to death in the pool at the rec center, I finally located the thermometer and rubbed my goggles to make sure what I was reading was correct--the water is 88 degrees.  I think hot tubs are normally set at 90 so that explains why all the seniors are moving really, really slow.  I don't really know what hot tubs are set at--but I do know that it is NOT a good sign to jump into the lap lanes to find the water too warm.  It isn't conducive to actual "swimming".  Not kidding--after jumping in, I just have this urge to grab a noodle and float.

I made a friend yesterday--we shared a lap lane together.  She came up to me complaining about the walkers in the lanes and the predominance of people just standing and talking.  I almost hugged her.  It was frustrating, but at least I have someone else who realizes that the pool is for working out--not just the Bob and Blab. It was nice to meet an actual "fish"--not just another "duck".

I was aghast to see that in the local paper, one of the worst teachers my kid has ever had is being nominated by another knucklehead for some award.  I nearly fell off my chair.  So, I do what any idiot would do--I make a comment on the story and now my name is attached to the comment for all to see.  Yeah, me. Like I said, I'm an idiot. That ought to go over big at parent-teacher conferences this week.

Apparently I'm used to warm (if not hot) water. Ugh.

I stopped using my real name for just about everything on the internet - I have a long history of opening my mouth just to change feet!

Glad to hear that most of the froggies survived the winter! Don't worry about the stupid teacher thing....and glad to hear you made a friend at the pool!

Hooray! for the frogs.

Okay, then, everybody's somebody's buddy.

I am glad that the frogs made it through the winter. I can't believe it's over. Here in the Small Town, we never even really had winter (not that I'm complaining).

We had more snow.
I give up

Now you can team up against them in the pool.

Hmn...you know, that's not such a bad thing. I'm pro-teacher accountability. I wish more folks would speak their minds, name or no name- and I was a teacher!

I remember hating that about the Y pool (I worked there in college). We had mostly older folks and because of our arthritis class the water had to be set at in the upper 80s. There's actually a rule about it.

My new pool though is a spritely 72 since it's just for hard core lap swimmers. And the hot tub always hovers around 103. Good times;)

So now are all the old folks in the pool gonna be talking about the young punks trying to take over the lanes :)

It's snowed here today and we hardly ever get snow. The weather is all messed up! I'm glad you have someone to swim with instead of just being the only one with all the slow pokes. Good for you for having the nerve to make a comment that I'm sure others want to make too!

That is way too hot! Why would they have the water so warm? Glad you found another swimmer--I would be one of those bobbers.

I am so behind! Look at all that you have been up too. Spring break, your baby home, failing memory, froggies and warm water and you made a new friend. Well now, that's nice! :D

OK.... all caught up.

Now I must get to bed. It's almost 8:30 pm... yea... I know... I'm a winner... ;)

Good for you speaking your mind. Seriously, is that teacher really is a bad teacher, something needs to be said.

Grace--Well, what I wrote is what I have said to her supervisors anyway, so it is no surprise. I did not realize that entering my name meant that it would be my name online. Ugh.

Hot Rocks--I was REALLY happy about the frogs. I'm glad they survived. Now, I hope they stick around. The big ones have a way of hopping away. :(

Vanilla--Isn't that great?! Do you remember how many I had in the fall? I count on you to remember for me, Vanilla.

Anne--We didn't either. We had some snow, but it melted. We had lots of rain though, so that's good for the earth. I am always worried about my frogs all winter.

Pricilla--Ugh. That must be very discouraging.

Ratty--Hahaha! Yeah, it's like our own little gang! :P

Nancy--I just wrote that she was sarcastic and dressed inappropriately. I didn't think that was too bad. And it wasn't anything that I haven't said to those above her anyway. She knows how I feel too. Whatever. I think I would like a nice 78 degrees--not too cold, not too warm.

Ann--Oh, it happened today! Wait for tomorrow's post! EEEEK!

Beaded Tail--It's funny, but there were no comments to contradict mine. But I still think I should not have done it. Oops. Oh well. I liked having a swim buddy. I liked the waves to swim against actually!

Karen--It's warm for the massive amounts of seniors we have there. But there is a hot tub right there! Can't figure out why they don't go stand in there and talk.

Catherine--I was missing you, pally! Glad you are back. :)

My frogs have woke-up also. Yea...to frogs! They help keep us sane!

don't you agree Lin???

Oh so glad to see those frogs and glad to see that 4 of them made it.
I cannot believe that people just walk in the pool or sit around and chat. Can't they do that on the outside of the pool?? Weird. Being in hot water seems to be your theme. Take care.

Jean--I can't wait to hear my first frog call of Spring! There is nothin' like the twang of a bullfrog to announce the warm weather. I wonder if I'll ever get home-grown tadpoles??

Marg--Well, if the chatting is the worst they do, I'll take it. There is lots of weird at the pool. And I guess mine is no exception. Aw, it's good for a laugh, I guess.

Well, the frogs like you! And sometimes the truth is just the truth. (Says the woman who is really good at putting feet in mouth)
