The KFC, drunken goats, and Evita Peron

They're all under my tree, believe it or not.

I finally got down under there (no, I wasn't passed out) to take photos of the train village this Christmas. It gets harder and harder to get down there as years go on--especially with a surgical shoe on one foot. But I did so--with some struggle. Sheesh, the things I do for your entertainment and mine.

While the village is pretty much the same buildings each year, we do mix it up a bit with new additions and placement of certain folks--that darn pope gets around you know.  So, with much anticipation, here is a tour of our wee train village:

Street view:  Oh! There's the KFC on the left!
The movie theater on the right. Look for the hooker!

For Pricilla and Melodie:  We have goats.
(uh oh, looks like he got into the nog...)

For Daisy, Beaded Tail and Marg:  We have kitties.
Looks like he's waiting for someone to let him in for supper.

Here's the train depot--for people who dress only in blue.
(Note to decorating committee: mix up the people a bit next year)

And......

(drumroll please)

The Pope!

What a nut.  He found himself a balcony and now he's doing his
best "Evita" impression. Shhhhh....if you close you eyes,
you can almost hear him sing...
"Don't cry for me, Argentina....."

And notice who is completely ignoring him....
hooker gal in silver pants.

Criminy. No matter where that guy goes...'ole Silver Pants is never far behind.
(I think she has a crush on him)

You never know what you are gonna find under that tree in that village.  Oh, there is more. I haven't even shown you the new stuff yet. And we have cool new stuff!

And in case you were wondering....it was much harder to get up from taking these photos than it was getting down there.

Lin, you are so silly. We love it.

Good choice: African Queen instead of Evita.

I was thinking as I looked at yesterday's post that the pope and friend the hooker were chatting in front of the KFC. Evidently, I was wrong. Silly old man that I am. :)

That goat looks suspiciously like a cow. I think you are trying to fool us...that or mini Abby has been through there....

African Queen was showing. I imagine that's why there was no crowd gathered to listen to the Pope... they were all in the theatre.

Helene--Honestly, it took me that long to get down there to set it up and take the photos!! I'm lucky I'm not still down there....under the tree....stuck for life!

Vanilla--Yeah, but I like singing along with Evita! :(

Chuck--That was a photo from last year that I used. I should have waited a day--Hobbes got under there again. Amazingly, he doesn't knock a thing over.

Pricilla--There is a cow, but look at the little guy laying on his side--THAT is the goat. A drunken goat, I think. I can't get him to stand up.

Diane--Or he just scared them off with his singing. Crazy Pope!

I appreciate the effort!

I've been looking forward to seeing the train village. I was afraid you were going to skip it this year.
For me getting down isn't so bad it's the getting back up again that kills me

Yay! Finally the village and it has cats! I bet that village is hopping with a KFC, goats, cats, the Pope and a hooker!

Ooohh... what fun! LOVE IT! I'm glad you final showed up. You should have put the monkey on one of the roofs. LOL!

Helene--Criminy. It was hell trying to get back up!! Glad you enjoyed it.

Ann--Oh no, there's no skipping the train. There's more coming. Hell, if I was down there, I was gonna take a LOT of photos!! hahaha!

Beaded Tail--Oh, there is all kinds of good stuff! Just wait...there is more.

Daisy--(I think they are schnockered!)

Petula--Oh, no, the Mojo Monkey would make the train crash and the tree fall. He's busy at work--hopefully wrecking havoc there. ;)

Seeing the KFC makes me laugh. I never knew they made them that small.

Disguising a brothel (with a balcony) as a movie theater, and playing a Bogart/Hepburn movie to boot. Well I figure anything can happen to the Pope and the girl in silver pants after sharing a bucket of original recipe.

Oh my COD, that is so funny. I know exactly what you are talking about getting down on the floor but I am just older than dirt. I loved this under the tree Christmas story. Love the Pope scoping out Silver pants. Sure glad you got up to be with the rest of us. Take care. Loved this post.

I know most of those kits. What fun!

So does the Pope have a Popemobile or is he stuck walking everywhere?

Ratty--It's amazing what they have for these train sets. And we only buy the "cheap" stuff because we don't have a layout. Look up Walther's--you will not believe what they sell for train layouts!

Jodi--He's such a romantic, that Pope. You'd think he'd at least take her to the diner!

Marg--It's worth the effort to get down there to see all of this stuff, but it is hard to get back up. Even Colin's friends were stuck!

Sharkey--We love the train. For years, we didn't put it out because we didn't want the kids to break it. I never thought we'd have as much fun as we do with it.

Anne--Ooooh, I'll have to see if they have a Popemobile for him! Wouldn't that be fun???!

before I start hunting the world over for a model popemobile, what is the gauge or scale of your layout?
