Leafy Quandry

What is it about leaves that when they decide to fall, they a) do it all at once it seems and b) they all have to congregate in my yard?

I don't have trees on the Back Forty (feet), so why do I have piles and piles of them on my lawn this morning?  And it isn't like there are a few clumps--nope, we've got piles.  Like I-have-to-go-out-and-rake sorta piles.  And it would take me all day and lots of garbage bags. Ugh.

And why is it the dude who never cuts his lawn or fertilizes AND owns these damn leaves doesn't have one stinking leaf on his property?  What gives?

The bigger question?  Would it be rude for me to rake his leaves and return them to his lawn?

Raking takes up so much time...use the blower and send 'em back home!

Quandary solved: Why? because you have that beautiful fence, wind lifts leaves over fence, drops them in yard. What gives? Nieghbor uses "wind rake" technique. Would it be rude? Surely you ask in jest. ;-)

You can try it LOL

Oh wait, I forgot, You can run the mower over the leaves, chopping them up into bits and then leave them on the lawn. They will turn into mulch and fertilizer by Spring.

yes.. it would be very rude. So behave yourself!

I would pay to see that. One giant, neatly stacked pile on his yard. My neighbor fertilizes his yard and it means he has to mow twice a week in the summer. What I want to do is secretly poison his grass in the middle of the night. Did I just say that? Nah.

i think the neighbor has trained the trees well. i have Emily rake the leaves by running them over with the lawnmower then they all end up in the lawnmower bag ready for waste bin .

Leaves are very green! You don't have to put leaves in paper compost bags.

we never rake we just mow over them :)
I'm betting the neighbor is raking his leaves and throwing them over into your yard.

I bet anything your neighbor has a leaf blower and blew all those leaves into your yard so you'd have to rake them.

Oh well. Rake them all up into a huge pile and jump in it. Don't worry about looking like a complete fool, it's fun!

I learned much from the comments. I'm mowing tomorrow. Beats raking.

Send them back where they came from!

I have to agree with the mower technique. I was raised by the yard mama from hell.. yes I said it.. after we mowed she would take a power nozzle to the hose and CLEAN all the debris off the grass, then we had to rake it up.. I kid you not.. I fell in love with my first lawn mower that allowed me to just chomp those puppies up!!

Of course if I were you, I would be so tempted to just scoot those leaves right back where they came from..

John and I have raked and scooped and smashed and raked and mowed them up and he jumps into the huge city trash cans and mashes them down and it doesn't take me that long to rake but he mows over the whole yard to get the teensy leaves because he wants the yard to look good and then we notice a cloud of dust approaching and there's this man three houses down from John's and he is blowing the leaves out of his yard and into the street, and creating this huge dirty cloud. Then later we notice he left all his leaves in the street. Must be nice. If we did that someone would call the police.

I watch my neighbor rake leaves. It must a great hobby, 'cause he spends so much time doing it. Me? I let the wind, the mower and time deal with it. Perhaps I'm like your neighbor?

Rake them and jump in-that's the best comment.

When my neighbor's roof kept blowing pieces into my yard I kept throwing them back over.

Elizabeth Berg called autumn's falling leaves "nature's confetti. I liked that.

Leaves are so pretty until the get in those piles. Mow them over or use a blower and put in piles near the neighbor's!

That reminds me of when my ex husband decided to blow all of the leaves from the neighbor's tree back into his yard. Eventually, they ended up back in our yard once again.

Thanks for the reminder. Yes, I'm a survivor but there are those days when I do want to scream and pull out my hair! :)

Katnip Lounge--Aw, the wind was blowin' hard and it was directed right towards our house. They would have just come back. Rats! We mowed them. Today, the yard looks like it did yesterday. Ugh.

Vanilla--My evil thoughts stay right there--in my head. But I would like to send them right back home. ugh. Oh--we get his dandelions too because he doesn't "believe" in weed killers. Sigh. I like the captcha!!

Pricilla--I will bundle them up and send them to you!! Or maybe you could come over and help us with them, Pricilla! :)

Grace--I'd LOVE to. If only it would work. Sigh. We did mow them, but there are more here today. Ugh. This guy is an idiot. He has a riding mower--you'd think he'd take care of his own leaves the easy way!

Diane--Party pooper.

Kathy--This neighbor is a jackass. He doesn't use weed killer either so we get all of his dandelions as well. Ugh. I don't like neighbors.

Paul--Yeah, Em raked the big piles, but Joe mulched the rest. The yard looks like crud again today with all the wind we had. Ugh.

Sharkey--We mulched what we could, Sharkey. But you have to be careful with how much you mulch. Sometimes too much mulch does more harm than good.

Ann--Nope, he has a riding mower that hasn't seen the light of day in weeks. You'd think with that thing, he'd be neighborly and mulch his OWN leaves. Nope. We mulched yesterday, but the yard looks a mess again today because he refuses to take care of his property. He is a big wienie.

Silverhthoughts--We mulched them. He just ignores his yard, so I guess he just waits for the wind to take care of his mess. It's working. Ugh.

Jean--Yep, that's what we do, but it is still frustrating. We woke up to high winds and our yard looking like we didn't do a darn thing. Ugh.

Diana--I'd LOVE to, but the wind wasn't working with us. I really hate when the leaves all end up in the pond. Ugh.

Shauni--OMG. What is with that???! We just mulch them, but sometimes you can't have too much mulch on the lawn. We woke up to the yard covered again today. I hate neighbors.

Lauren--Can you do that?? I mean, doesn't the city fine him for that??! What a jerk. That is worse than just leaving them for the wind to take away.

Chuck--You have too much property to rake, Chuck. We have small lots, so he can do it...AND he has a riding mower!! He's just lazy.

Helene--Yeah, roof pieces I'd be tossing over too. That's crazy. But I would think they would also need to see that there are parts of their house falling off, so you are sorta doing them a favor. ;)

Beaded Tail--I wish the wind was blowing in the right direction because I would totally blow them there, but no such luck. We ended up mowing them....and they returned on Sunday. Ugh.

Chocolate--Yeah, the wind wasn't working in our favor either--they would have just come back, so we mowed. And there were more of his leaves in our yard on Sunday. He is a wienie. Ugh. You'll be okay, Simone. You are one strong gal!

Yes! They always blow over from the neighbor yards. It's not fair!

I'd say eff it. I read that leaves are good for ground cover for the winter. They help keep the grass warm or some such thing. And they also fertilize. I don't rake. :o)

However, if you really don't want them there, don't even mess with a rake. Grab your shop vac and put that bizzle on the setting where it blows air out....have fun!!
