I'm smiling now, but give me a few weeks....

Well, I guess it is official....the holiday season is upon us. Come Thursday, there is no turning back--it's madness at the mall. It's crazy people driving....well,....crazy. It's stress and forced fun. It's empty pocketbooks and overstimulated kids.  It's having to do too many things in too short a time span.

And it's not going away for well over a month. Sigh.

So, while you are freaking out trying to get this and that done, I want you remember to have fun during it all. Before you strangle your mother-in-law, I want you to take a moment and find something good in the day. Just when you are gonna snap at that dame cutting in line in front of you--I want you to embrace your inner Mojo Monkey, give her the stink eye, and then find something funny in the situation. We have to remember to laugh.

I emailed two blog pallies yesterday, both of which were fried--and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet.  Laugh, I said to both of them--we gotta laugh......or we are gonna cry.  And I meant it.  Each of us has our own troubles these days, but a little giggle in the day goes a long way, ya know?  I actually woke myself up the other night--from laughing.  That's a good thing--I wish I did that more often.

So, let us all remember how insane this holiday stuff is and how the expectations of some mass media holiday induced frenzy can get the best of us.  I'm gonna try hard to breathe deep, grant a little forgiveness on those I want to murder, and to remember to laugh.

And I'm gonna start on Thursday with our annual $100,000 Pyramid competition at my aunt's house.  Oh, it's tough. It's competitive. It's not really for $100,000--but you'd swear it was for the behavior of the adults playing.  But more than anything....we laugh.  And laugh hard.

I wish the same for you this holiday season, pallies.

I don't usually let myself get too stressed over the holidays season. I think it helps though that us Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October. We have the whole month of November ~ holiday free!

Have a good one Lin!

I made the mistake of leaving the farm yesterday and going in to the big city to do my shopping...it was horrible!!!!I was so frazzled by the time I got home.Mainly it was the people on the road. I know half the folks in Houston could not pass a drivers test if they had to take one!

I am done...yep...that is what the internet is for! I am not leaving this farm again till next year!

The run-up to Xmas is always stressful. I seem to do the shopping for gifts earlier every year, just to avoid the rush! Sometimes I think I might as well buy them in August ;-)
Good luck!!

With the fruitcake someone wanted that I found yesterday I have my shopping done. It was a good thing I did it all early as the past two weeks I haven't been able to walk. Bad arthritis flare up. Got a vacation this week. Well, if you don't count having to go in on Wednesday.

I'm just waiting for your little people village to appear.

I'm with Helene....where are the Village People??!! ;)

When I feel the stress coming on, I'm going to think about Hobbes having a tantrum at your door. Then I know I'll crack up and relax again!

I'm going to live the impossible and go in search of a stress free holiday! (yeah, right) But I will take your advice. I wonder if the kids will be happy with a package of new socks and undies? Nope, probably not! :) Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

i find that booze makes a great holiday stress reliever , especially after a hard afternoon of supervising Emily putting the outdoor decorations up . lol

Good advice. I'm glad I won't have to worry about too much this year, only my crazy dog that has the strange ability to untie knots.

I've been stressed since last Friday but not because of the upcoming holidays but because of the DMV and mistaken identity. Now everything is okay and there's plenty of laughter and joy!

Thats a lovely photo of you!

Catherine--I like that idea. Then the two holidays are just blended together.

Melodie--City traffic is CRAZY! I love people on cell phones crossing 6 lanes of traffic in cars that shouldn't be on the road. Sigh. Welcome to my commute. Ugh.

Vanilla--Me too!

Grace--Thanks, Grace. Sorry for the Pollyanna post--I'm trying to remind myself....

Diana--Trying to maintain my cool, pally.

Duni--I used to buy all my gifts and wrap them by Thanksgiving when the kids were small. It really helped to keep the holidays stress-free. I try to do that still if I can.

Helene--WOW! You have days off??! Cool! I hope your knee gets better. :( I'm shopping for some new Village People!

A. Marie--I've got the catalog out and I'm looking for something new!

Violet--He's doing it now as I type! It's funny, but it's ANNOYING too.

Chocolate--I think if we work on not freaking out, it can be done. And you have to start early with shopping and wrapping. Sigh. So much to do...

Rebecca--It is, but is it not for the tender of heart. We are BRUTAL on each other!

Ann--I'm working on it now. Especially since I'm having my toe operation in the middle of it. Ugh.

Paul--I like your thinking, Paul! Both having cocktails AND having your kids do the work! :D

Ratty--Uh oh, a Houdini, eh? How about a harness??

Beaded Tail--Did they at least give you a good identity??? :D Ugh--what a headache! I'm glad it is cleared up!

I love the holiday season, even tho our Thanksgiving was over a month ago, I look forward to Christmas and time with the kids and grand kids. I decided long ago not to get stressed, not to bite off more than I can chew, and being organized and not leaving everything to the last minute are key to having a relaxing fun filled holiday! Oh ....and getting everyone to pitch in with all the prep and clean up is a great help too!

Good advice, Lin. I'm trying to laugh but sometimes I forget.

Good luck in the competition. Make me proud.

I pretty much solve it all by pretending the holiday season doesn't exist.
