It was crazy how many parents we needed on pit crew for Saturday's performance--but we had plenty, which speaks volumes of the parent participation we have. It's nice. And it's fun too--I never laugh as hard as I do with the band parents. They certainly make the day fun.
The only downside of helping get the percussion equipment on the field was that we couldn't see the new and improved show this week. After Lemont Guy came and made all those changes, we were stuck on the back end of the field and all we saw was butts--and lots of 'em.
But there I was, the good mom, taking photos anyway. Here's Em's rifle solo--from the back side. I get points for trying, right?
Oh--we won second place in our category, with winning captions of Best Drum Major, Best Colorguard, and Best Music General Effect. It was a good day--the sun was shining, the air was warm, and the company good. I guess in the end, it didn't matter what view I had--I was just happy to be there.

Yeah! Second place sounds pretty good to me! I think the red seats and the band make a great photo from any angle.
What a good mom you are. Isn't the point to support Em? Or is it to take great photos? I thought so. Way to go Joe! On yes, and Lin. :)
Wow, congrats to the band on winning so much. Guess being part of the crew is that you are helping Em. What a good Mom. Glad it turned out to be such a good day. Take care.
Nice view!
We thought we had sucky nose-bleed seats at Memorial Stadium and we discovered how good they were on Saturday. As the 2 minute warning was approaching we decided to move down to the student section (most band parents move down to be close to their kids at the end of the game...although our kid ignores us)...and just as we got ready to move Illinois FUMBLED! YIKES! The sailor from within came out of my hubby. We got down to the student section quickly and the band sounds muffled and it's too close to the field to actually see where the ball is. Now we LOVE our free nose-bleed seats. BUT I am looking forward to being on the 40 yard line with y'all in a few weeks to watch the bands!!
You're such a great parent and band supporter! I love how into it you are. I never did pit crew before, but I can imagine that it might be fun once or twice. I always did "feed the band" or chaperone type things, and you're making me miss those good old days.
Congrats on the finish!
I'm sure someone video'ed it! You hadn't said on Saturday's post that Em had solos. 'Course you didn't want to miss those!
This week was certainly Em's shining moment. I'm so proud of her and anxious to see the show next weekend. Good job by all of you! Phyl
Congratulations on the band winning second place and all the category wins. Too bad you did not get a better view of the performance, however, all your volunteer work has certainly helped get the band its recognition I am sure!
Congrats on the placings! And go Em!!!!!
Congratulations to the band for great winnings! Hope we get to see Em's solo sometime!
congrats to the band for taking second. I bet they looked good no matter what side you saw them from
Cheap seats, or no seats, the main thing is you were there! It was a good day!
Nice picture! Hopefully somebody in a better spot took a video for that other perspective. It sure makes a difference, doesn't it?
DJ--No matter what place--we did great and improved since last performance. Sometimes you just wish the first place would come, you know? Can you see Em's rifle in the air in that shot?
Chuck--Welllllll..... I would really like to capture her big moment. :) But you know we had fun regardless.
Marg--I like being with the kids so crew is fun too. We have a great band. We are small, but mighty!
Diana--I'll bet that is really something to go to those games and see Jake perform. What a great opportunity for you all! I still have your cell number and I will be in touch as we get closer and know what time we'll be there and such. I hope I don't have to be on the field that day too.
Violet--Oh, it's fun! I don't know how parents AREN'T involved in this. I'll bet they would if they just knew how fun it is. I don't like chaperoning, but I do like the other jobs. I don't want to yell at anyone or babysit the troublemakers.
Grace--We'll have a video at the end of the season, but I want to see it NOW!! Hee! Hee! Em has a solo and a duet with another girl, but on Saturday, she had to fill in for their section leader who starts the show with a high toss. She nailed it and I could only see it from behind!! ARrrrgggh!
Phyl--Oh, you missed it!! We were so sad you weren't there to see Em's big day. Figures--the one time you weren't there. :(
Hot Rocks--It's all worth it for the kids and I suppose I'm being selfish for wanting to see it from the stands. Either way, we had fun and the kids did great. That's the point, right? :)
Pricilla--The wins are always good for the kids' morale and spirits. After all that work, it's nice for them to get some acknowledgment.
Beaded Tail--Yeah, me too!! Hahaha! We'll have video soon or at the end of the season. We keep changing the show to improve, so I like the end of the season shows to show you all.
Ann--Yep. It's fun to see the show from a different perspective too. Felt like I was part of the band for a minute.
Vanilla--Yep and we had fun too. Always. :)
Sharkey--Can you see her rifle in the air??? We always have video from all the performances, but I won't get that until the season is done. RATS!! I'll post as soon as we get one.
You are a very good mom! I am sure your kids appreciate you...or they will when they are older at least! :)
xo Catherine
Catherine--They do now and I hear it often. We have a nice time as a family doing these things. I think we will all look back fondly on these days.
I agree with the rest. You are a darn great mom!
