It was a fine idea at the time.......

I'm an idiot.

Seriously. Where I get my ideas, I'll never know. I talk myself into the most ridiculous situations and then, well, I blog about them.

Last Friday, as a treat, I decided to drop $240.00 on a chemical peel for my face. (Commence chuckling)

Yeah, I know, ridiculous.  But I did and that is what I wanted to do for years. Seriously--years.

I'm not sure when, but over time, the sun damage caused by the lack of sunscreen when we were young (NOBODY used sunscreen back then, people.) left me with uneven skin tone and brown spots on my face.  They got so bad that I wore a lot of make-up on most days.  Well, every day actually.  And while all those smarty pants dames would make comments about my make-up at the pool and at little league games, they had no idea how self-conscious I was about those brown spots. I felt like a rotten apple.

So, make-up I wore--everywhere. The pool, horseback riding, to the gym, in the backyard, etc.  I didn't like it either--it was expensive and time-consuming.  Believe me, I missed those teen years of being naked on the face.

Well, here I am, 30 years later and I'm blastin' my face with god-knows-what and it's hurting. It's hurting damn bad.  I look like an idiot with a 4 + days of faux sunburned glory and peely skin to beat the band.  I'm freaking miserable.  Like $240 worth of miserable.

Okay, so all the brochures tell me that I'm never going to have to wear make-up again. Really?  Damn, I hope so because, today, I'm just lookin' like a raisin.  A bright pink raisin. A raisin who's skin is all peely and is all crabulated because her face hurts so stinkin' bad.

But a raisin with no make-up on.

Ouch! You will hopefully forget about all the bad when your skin grows back 20 years younger! Ouch! Oh..I said that already!

Yikes! Don't believe I'd do that. But then, I'm attached to my beard . . . or is it the other way round? Hope you are happy with the results.

Oh, dear. Sometimes the blog author says it all.

I do hope it works for you. We will all cross our hooves

I hope it works. That definitely sounds painful. I never wear make up so I can totally relate to your desire to go out without it.

Sweet thing! Hope you feel better soon. I don't blame you for springing for the treatment. You hang in there!

Ouch - I'm 65 and olive skinned and was never a "sun" person but I have begun to notice uneven skin tone - happens to us olive/yellow skinned people. I invested $45 in a Clinque's "even better" skin tone correcting moisturizer (whew - that's a mouthful). It's supposed to be 4 to 6 weeks before you start to see a difference but I noticed an improvement after a week - plus it's a damn good moisturizer. You might want to explore it after your face heals.

I haven't done the foundation make-up thing since I was a teenager - when I didn't need it but it was all the rage...

Well that does sound miserable. BUT you gave yourself a present that you deserve and have been wanting and will make your life easier once you heal. And you will heal.

Ouchie! But it will all be worth it when your pretty new skin emerges!

Going make-up free would be wonderful! I hope this works for you and we'd love to see before and after photos!

Oh that sounds painful. I gave up on makeup a long time ago and I don't care how uneven my skin tone is. I'm just willing to go through the hassle of putting make up on every day. I do it only on very rare occasions.

Melodie--Oh yeah, they say you'll experience some "discomfort". Yeah...no. Discomfort isn't the word for it. And yes, my skin is soooo soft!

Chuck--Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. Next time, I'm growing a beard.

Vanilla--yeah. I'm an idiot. But one with soft skin. ;)

Pricilla--Yeah, me too! It's all blotchy right now. Silly me.

Anne--I would not recommend this. Well, maybe after it is all said and done, but NOT right now!!

Betty--Oh, they make these things sound so easy. EEK! NOT. EASY. But ask me in a few weeks...

Grace--There are so many products on the market, I didn't know where to put my money. This gal swore by this treatment and now I'm swearing at her!! Hahaha!

Nancy--I hope so. Otherwise I'm just gonna walk around with this red face forever. OWIE!!

Daisy--I hope so. Meanwhile, I look like an idiot at work.

Beaded Tail--Oh, I should have done that! Darn. Well, right now I'm all red-faced and peely. It is NOT lovely and I have to go to work like this. NOT cool at all. I think they are snickering at me.

Ann--It is very painful, but they don't tell you that. "Discomfort" is the term they use. Yeah, discomfort my big toe. But my skin is very soft already.

Lin, I'm sure you will look gorgeous, dahling!!! I bet you already did. Isn't it funny how us women can be so damn self-conscious, and the dumb things we will go through to make ourselves feel better? That reminds me, maybe I should blog about the time I actually thought it wouldn't be THAT bad to get a brazilian wax done. WTF was I thinking!!!

P.S. Thanks for your comment. You motivated me to get up off my arse and go for a walk. Just what I needed!!

Hope it works for you Lin!! So far, I've invested in many creams that don't work and I'm tired of fighting a losing battle.

Just dashed over from "The Blue Ridge Gal's" blog..to tell you "WHY didn't I think of that! A coal miners hat!! Perfect! JUST PLAIN PERFECTION!!! :)

Wsprsweetly Of Cottages said...

Ye gods! You had one of those peels!! My friend did that and now every time I call her she picks up the phone and screams WHAT!! in this witchy voice.

I'm afraid to Skype her...sheesh!!

(I need a body peel!!) Wait until you're 75 years old..then tell me all about it!!!)

Mee2--They make these procedures sound so easy, don't they? Criminy. What we don't do for loveliness. Ugh. And there had BETTER be loveliness after this!! I'm glad you got out. :)

Veronica Lee--Well, that's what I figured. I spent all that money on creams and make-up so I figured the $240.00 was going to end that once and for all. I will let you know if it does. But remind me to tell you how much this HURTS too!

Cottages--Hi, new Pally!! Thanks for coming by! :) I think a coal miners hat would be "task lighting on the road" for those of us who can't see worth a darn anymore. Imagine taking that under-cabinet lighting with you everywhere!! Gees, imagine the possibilities! :) Tell your friend, I share her pain. These peels are very hurty. VERY. HURTY. Although on Day 5 I can actually put creme on my face without screaming. There had better be some loveliness at the end of this road. Call your friend--don't Skype her. She's not gonna wanna show her face to anyone right now.

Anything with the word chemical in it just sounds like a bad idea. *shudders*

Lin, I do hope you are feeling better. I don't know much about that procedure, but it sounds painful. BTW...there is nothing wrong with putting your best face forward putting a little makeup on! I do that all the time...i just feel better!

DJ said...

Oh dear! Your braver than me that's for sure. Hope it heals soon and you reap some benefits from your pain. :(
My skin has so many freckles, I gave up on makeup years ago.

Silverthoughts--It's not as easy as the brochure says it is that's for sure. Wow. Just able to move my mouth after 5 days.

Hot Rocks--I like to look nice any time I walk out the door. I do not own a pair of sweats. It's just me and I know that I will continue to wear make-up, but my skin was just so icky. It's even ickier today!! I'm really hoping there are some good results after this.

DJ--I can't tell you how painful this was!!! Criminy. People ask me if I'd do it again---NO!! :O

Ow! I hope the results are everything you hope for. I think I'd get used to spots, but... maybe not. My face isn't beautiful, but I'm quite used to it.
