Does your face hurt? It's killing me

Day 7 and I can finally move my face. Seriously--I could not move my face without being in excruciating pain for days. Imagine trying to go to work like that.

Now imagine me going to work and having the support (or lack of) from my co-workers. Yeah/no. Nothing like those after-chemical peel words of encouragement:
  • "Are you sick or something? You don't look so good." Yeah, thanks Janitor guy.
  • "How much did you spend on that?"
  • "Does it hurt as bad as it looks?" Yes. Yes, it does.
  • "What happened to your face?! I didn't want to say anything on Monday."   Jackass.
  • "Oooh. Are you gonna sue them?" My personal favorite.
Yes, it hurt. Yes, this is normal--although nobody will tell you that. And yes, my skin looks better. Although I'm hoping for even better results when I'm done peeling and healing. When that will come--who knows.  It's been an entire week and I'm just happy to move my face.  Aim high, I say. Ugh.

At least I kept my sense of humor through it all--even if it hurt to smile.

So, they didn't tell you about the three mandatory follow-up sessions? Oh my!

Just kidding. Hope you continue to recover rapidly and that the final results are great. (How could they be anything but great?)

I have actually gotten quite the education about a chemical peel from your posts. I had no idea what it was or why women did it. I have the same problem as you with my skin-- as a teen, I was a sunbathing goddess, and I got wonderfully brown every year. But now that I am older... well, I think I ruined my skin. :( I should have listened to Mammy in Gone With the Wind, putting buttermilk on my skin to keep it white and smooth. Kids are so dumb!!! No wonder God made parents...

Anyway, take heart! I'm sure all the pain will be worth it, although I think you're beautiful with or without any peel. Keep us up to date on your progress!

I think I'll just count my blessings...I guess it is true that laughter is the best medicine...

Your face ended up looking a bit more wooden than I expected...

Ah, but the payoff when the pain is gone. You will be so gorgeous...

Let us know the final results because when all is said and done you think it was worth it I am considering having it done as well. I seriously need to do something!

Chuck--I am happy with the results. I finally wore makeup the other day to work and I used 1/4 of what I used to use. And my skin is very soft. Although, I'm not sure I am far enough removed from the incident to recommend it to anyone else. Yikes, that HURT!

Rebecca--see above comment. Other people may not have the same reaction I did to my peel, but I don't think there is an easy way to find out. I would try bleaching cremes from your dermatologist before doing the peel. Also, I would count on at least 5 days at home and LOTS of vitamin E for your face. The vitamin E really helped the healing and I wonder if I had used it earlier in the process if I would have felt better.

Grace--Well, I got myself into this thing and it was elective, so I only have me to blame. I had no idea how much it would hurt!! I thought it was me until I looked it up on the internet--there was a woman who chronicled her experience on YouTube. Believe it or not, it helped me a ton. Vitamin E was my best friend!

Pricilla--Yep and today it looks and feels so much better. Every now and then it gets really dry and hurty, but nothing like it was before.

Katherine--Yeah, it was NOT fun! I guess I'm not cut out for that world of beauty treatments!!

Daisy--Yeah, but look at my HAIR!!! :D Hahahaha!

Vanilla--My skin does look a lot better, so I'm happy. But it certainly wasn't easy. I'll never do THAT again!! Yikes.

Shauni--Read everything you can about it, especially if you can find anything negative about the product you will be using. I used ViPeel and I didn't find anything bad until I really searched. Finally, I found a there was a series of YouTube videos with a woman chronicling her experience with this product. It was only then did I learn that I was not alone in the major pain category. I would count on at least 5-6 days off work as well. You cannot go to work for how bad it hurts. I spent my days at work putting on lotions and then cleaning my glasses for the mess it made. I was miserable. I am also recommending Vitamin E capsules opened on your face to help the healing. My life changed when I did that. Overall--I'm not sure I would do this again. It was seriously painful. I like the results, but they aren't the dramatic results that I was expecting with all the pain I was in. Email me if you want more information on my experience.

That sounds like an ordeal, and must have been tough going in to work. I hope the results are just what you want.

Oh my goodness Lin! I had to catch up and see what the heck was happening! It sounds like you have been through a lot this week. I hope your face gets feeling better soon. It all sounds very painful!!! Poor girl!

Sending you an extra big hug!!!

At least you're over the worst part and the people at work are going to be very jealous of how hot you are! Or should I say how much hotter you are since you were already hot! :)

You are brave woman Lin. No way would I do that. I hate pain

Marg said...

I am with Ann. I sure wouldn't do that. There must be another way. But if it works, I guess it is worth it. Bet you can't wait to smile again. Take care.

Are you flippin' kidding me? I've seen your photo and you are sooo pretty! Was there something specific about your facial skin that you didn't like? Just being nosy. :-) Hope all is better soon!!

Tracy said...

Goodness gracious Lin...are you a glutant for punishment? first your peel, then your toe...I hope you have nothing else going on anytime soon...
take good care!

Ugh... that does not sound like fun. I hope you're feeling 100% soon and your skin looks radiant:)

Terra--I should have stayed home, but at least the people at work kept me laughing about it. They were just silly and not mean. Really.

Catherine--Yeah, these "beauty" treatments are not for me! That's the last time I do that!! Hahaha!

Beaded Tail--Well, I'm hoping that all that new skin on my face distracts them from my big butt!! Hahaha!

Ann--Yeah, I didn't know it would be that bad! Nobody told me, so that is my gift to you all--it HURTS like heck!!

marg--I'm a lot better now, but it was an awful few days. If I had known, I don't think I would have done this. But, it looks nice. Whew!

Diane--I had a lot of brown spots and I had to wear a lot of make-up to cover them. Even at the pool. It was awful. I had one that made me look like I had a mustache. I was really self-conscious about it. They are gone now. Hooray! But it hurt like the dickens!

Tracy--I know! Can you believe I have to do the toe too??? But I've met my deductible for the year, so I have to do the toe now. I'll bet that hurts less than the face thing! Hahaha!!

Jennifer--The skin does look good, but it is still dry and can get tender easily. Boy, nobody tells you this stuff when you get the pitch for those peels. Criminy!

You are braver than I. I'm in pain just thinking about it!

Glad I didn't do any sun bathing! This sounds very painful!

Veronica Lee said...

Ouch!! But the pain is worth it!! A neighbour did a chemical peel and she now looks fantastic!

Lin said...

Storm--Yeah, I had NO idea what was in store. All the pamphlets and brochures brag of this "no pain" peel. Yeah/no.

Karen--I think I paid for every sunburn that I ever had! Yeah, it was NOT fun!

Veronica--The results are good, but not as dramatic as I would have thought. But all those cremes and such are subtle as well. I think I would look silly if my face was suddenly pale, right?
