Kicking Off Marching Season

People tell me we're crazy for hosting Colorguard Breakfast before each competition.  I dunno, making breakfast for a 7:00 invasion of our humble abode isn't such a bad thing--I mean, years from now I'm still going to be reminiscing about it, I'm sure of it. And that's about when the cats will be fully recovered as well.

We're off to our first competition of the Marching Season--and we count ourselves lucky that the temps aren't below freezing and it isn't raining.  Okay, so the thought of damp metal bleachers haunts me throughout the rest of the year, I'm not thinking about that just yet.  I'm anticipating 6 hours of drum line, colorguard, incredible music, and jam-packed stands with respectful crowds who truly appreciate the world of marching band.  I can't wait.

You never know what the season holds and I always start out apprehensive about the program.  After last night's first official run-through of the show, I'm a wee bit hesitant, but that is normal.  It isn't until we've had a few contests under our belt that we really learn to love the show and Mr. P never lets us down.

Wish us luck. May our division be tough, our music strong, and our field show a winner.

And pray for me that I survive those damn bleachers. Owie.

Crazy was the first word I thought of when I saw how early you were up. Of course we have a night game, so I tried to sleep in. I'm thinking that big competition 5 weeks from now might require an even earlier wake up!

Go team!

Someone still bringing blanket. It is early indeed.

As a former band geek I have to ask-- what is their show this year?

They look awfully cheerful for so early in the am.

So bring along a cushy seat, a cozy blankie and a thermos of cheer.

Rather than luck, I wish you all - FUN!

Yet what could be more exciting, and ultimately memorable, than a houseful of enthusiastic teens before seven ayem?

March on!

Is this your last year being a band mom?

I love that you sacrifice so much for the kids. I know that they appreciate it!

Good Luck! The breakfasts sound like a fun way to start the day and everyone will remember them down the road.

At least you're not freezing your butt off on the bleachers yet, I'm sure it's coming.

Your not just making breakfast, you're making memories for a lot of kids :)
Good luck to the band

Diana--Yep. I think some of these contests the kids are here as early as 6:00--which is downright nasty. But that's okay--it's fun and they like it. I'm taking a nap by 9 or 10--that's when me and the cats recover.

V7--Oh, all the lights are on in the house and the stereo is blasting. Nobody can be a sleepyhead and come to breakfast at my house! :O

Shieldmaiden--Hahaha! They are doing "Thanx for the mmrs" by Fallout Boy, "If I were a boy" by Beyonce, "C'mon Eileen" Dixies' Midnight Runners and "I can't help falling in love with you" by Elvis Presley. Eileen is struggling, but the other 3 songs are good. We still have lots of time to get it perfected--we have only performed the entire show 3 times.

Grace--We brought winter coats, hats, blankets AND cushions--we don't mess around. No thermos of cheer though--not around the kid events. We did have FUN!

Beaded Tail--Oh, we are making memories. I'll spend the rest of my days remembering these times. I hope my kids do too. :)

Paul--Hahaha! Got 'em, Paul! We were lucky it was "warm" on Saturday!

Pricilla--Oh, my bones are hurting today, pally. Those metal bleachers are KILLER!

Vanilla--I love to hear 'em all chattering about this or that at that hour. It's just fun to feed them and listen...

Sharkey--I saw that! Ahhh, it's definitely marching season everywhere!

Chocolate--Nope--one more year after this. I'm savoring every minute of it as it goes waaaayyyy too fast.

Casey--Oh, the day was warm, but the minute the sun sets, it's COLD. We had winter coats, gloves, blankets, hats, and cushions and we were still chilly. EEK! But that said, we do have fun at these things.

Ann--Yeah, it is so much fun. It's a ton of fun having this tradition at our house. Not only are the memories for the kids, but for Joe and I as well. I'm going to be spending the rest of my days missing this stuff.

That does sound like a fun thing to do. I love breakfast time. Wishing you tons of luck with those bleacher seats. Sounds like you need a thick blanket or something. Take care.

Sounds like an awesome show, though its a tiny bit depressing that it contains a song we used to listen to ON the band bus....I imagine the tempo of Eileen would be a tough one. Good luck to them....twenty years on and I STILL miss it.
