I probably post this every single year after returning from vacation, but I pray that my end brings me here. It is the back patio of the lodge at Cumberland Falls, KY and there is no place closer to heaven to me than this very spot.
It is quiet, peaceful, and the earth smells sweet--just right for finding yourself. There are birds and raccoons, a muddy river view--and if you get there early enough in the day, you can touch a cloud or two.
Each year, my vacation begins and ends right here at this spot, with a vow to have my ashes spread on this very spot when and if I meet my demise.
Crank up a little Bill Monroe's version of Blue Moon of Kentucky and you got yourself heaven right here on earth......

Sounds wonderful. Much better than western KY.
I can't argue with a final resting spot like that!
Great choice for a final resting place, pally but I think I'd prefer a burial!!
Glad you're back from your vacation.
A lovely place indeed.
This made me smile and laugh a little - probably not for the reasons you might think. Everyone has a different idea of what heaven is, whether here on earth or elsewhere - makes life interesting.
Heavenly!
Ahhhhhh....I think I'll stay here awhile too.
Uhm, you will ultimately meet your demise. There is no if unless there is something you are not telling us.
Have we found God here at the Duck and Wheel?
That's a beautiful spot to begin and to end on... Love it!
That is a lovely view. Is that where the Happy Raccoon Village is? :)
anything that gives you that much pleasure should be posted about every year
Helene--oh yeah--a LOT less boaters and fish. :P We are in the foothills of Appalachia and it is beautiful there.
Violet--I just hope they can throw far and get me in that river!
Veronica Lee--A burial?? Really??! Not me. Too expensive and nobody goes to cemeteries here anymore. I'd rather my family come visit me here.
Chuck--I wish I could include the sweet smell of that place in the post. mmmmmmm...
Grace--Okay, so I'm curious as to what made you giggle. I'm soooo not a country music gal, so the Bill Monroe is a stretch. I think it is the song that gets me. Reminds me of lots of summers here.
Oh, and we square dance to that song--now THERE is something to giggle about!
Vanilla--The clouds take FOREVER to burn off in the mornings, so if you go there before 9, you are sitting in clouds. It's dewy, but lovely.
Betty--Hey! You can come visit me here when I'm gone!! ;) Maybe we can have a party on that back porch of the lodge.
Pricilla--This is as religious as I get, pally. I'm more about earth and such and not too much about 4 walls and kneeling with some other folks on Sunday. I guess it is death is inevitable, isn't it? Thanks for the reminder. Ugh.
Petula--It's funny how we head to that porch at the beginning and the end of our trip. Maybe because it is just so pretty. Wish I was there now.
Beaded Tail--Hahahaha! Wait for tomorrow's post.
Ann--Yeah. And I like going there every year too. I know that is boring for vacation, but I just like it so darn much.
It certainly looks beautiful and peaceful, and would be the perfect spot to be scattered to the wind, when the time comes!
Funny how some of us can find such closure, such peace in a view...in a place. Lucky to know this feeling. I have a similar spiritual AUM. Actually, my ash sprinkling spot has become a list, kinda like a last tour. Fran'll have her work cut out for her....! Fran's Dad
Not giggle - laugh...
Hot Rocks--Who wants to be in a cemetery when you got this going for ya??? :)
Fran's Dad--Poor Fran. She's gonna be walking around with a pocketful 'o Mike. Hee! Hee! I imagine there will be some of you in the washing machine and dryer then too, right?
Grace--Sigh. Well, at least I made you laugh today. :P
It does indeed look like a little peace of heaven Lin ! beautiful!
