So, I had a good laugh yesterday when Sharla from Beaded Tail asked if my favorite spot in the whole world was also home to Happy Raccoon Village. I never thought of it that way until she said it--and then I remembered this photo from the back of the lodge. It is taken directly below the spot where I took the photo of the river for yesterday's post.
The patio on the back of the lodge sits atop the restaurant. There is a small piece of land there where little birds, chipmunks, squirrels, occasional skunks, and raccoons come to eat at bird feeders set up for the diners to enjoy out the windows. Those diners then sneak a few pieces of bread or crackers upstairs to toss down to the raccoons, who beg like the dickens to the sucker crowd.
So, yeah, Sharla. The answer is "yes", this is also Happy Raccoon Village.
And the thought that these little buggars are there spending the rest of eternity with me never really crossed my mind. Thanks--thanks a LOT for pointing that out. Sigh. It's karma isn't it?

Given your trials with raccoons, it is inevitable.
Raccoons are cute but they are also a little norty. One raccoon chased my t three dogs one time. It was pretty scary. But from a distance they are good guys. Take care.
My outdoor cat, Fuzzy, looks a little like a raccoon. He has this very annoying penchant for bringing home raccoon "buddies" who destroy my basement and gobble up all his food. I can't stand the critters. Visitors FEED THEM?! If it was me, I'd just throw rocks! Grrr! :S
If that's karma she's one bad babe. It's not too late to change your mind.
Hahahaha! Love the photo of the little buggar looking at you! Wonder if he thinks you look familiar. Like maybe you were the one who sent him off to the wonderful Happy Raccoon Village! I got a kick out of this post!
I am thinking t-shirts with "Happy Raccoon Village" logos are in order.
I love raccoons so I think he is really cute. There are worse ways to spend eternity.
I'm sure they will take very good care of you....
Bwahahahaha
I have an on going war with those critters! Maybe I can ship my coons there...will they take refugees?
Betty is right, t-shirts, you need t-shirts
Vanilla--Sigh. No kidding. It's my life story. Ugh.
Marg--Marg, I'm not sure you were around for last fall's adventure with the raccoons in our yard. Oh, it was ugly. We finally resorted to having them sent to "Happy Raccoon Village". They can be VERY norty.
Rebecca--I'm just hoping those darn raccoons don't inhale when they are spreading my ashes. Now THAT is karma!
Beaded Tail--You really made me laugh with that comment. Really, I never thought of H.R.V. (Happy Raccoon Village) when I saw them there. It just ruins the whole thing!! Ugh. Now I have to find a new place for my ashes! Hahaha!
Betty--Oh, that is hilarious! Okay, who's the artist amongst us???
Anne--Oh no! Not after my bout with that group from last fall! I used to like them and welcome them in our yard, but not anymore. It was BRUTAL! Dead fish, decapitated rabbits, pond damage, destroyed water plants--it was horrible. I won't look at another raccoon the same ever again. We may have to relocate Happy Raccoon Village to your house. :P
Pricilla--Yeah, they'll probably eat my ashes!!
Melodie--Wait--Anne likes them. Send them to Anne!!
Ann--Hey, you are good with Photoshop. I vote for you doing the design!!
Mwaaaa.... look at the happy little raccoon in Happy Raccoon Village. I love it!
xo Catherine
Ha, ha....good thing Sharla pointed that out. What a bummer it be if you found that out AFTER the sprinkling of the ashes! Lol!
I think raccoons are what you get if you gigantisize squirrels and then up their feistiness by 100.
