Okay, so in all the years that I have been blogging, I have never, ever, taken a full week off . Ever. I'm usually hiking myself to whatever wi-fi link I can find to answer comments, write a new post, and/or blog hop--never fully disconnecting. But this year was different, I did it--I actually kept the darn laptop in the book bag and rarely, if ever, snuck a peek at the internet.......or the Duck and Wheel.
And it was wonderful.
Pretty much, the days consisted of me sitting on the deck of my cabin like this all week. And yes, there was usually a cold drink somewhere nearby, right next to my lizard friend and other various flying and buzzing visitors. But they didn't bother me, nor I them, and we co-existed in a mutual chill for days--me and my book, they and their...uh....wings and stuff.
Our cabin was sweet--lots of space for us and the kids. Air-conditioned, three-TV comfort, so everyone had space to escape each other--which kept us all alive and barely sane. And while we enjoyed escaping home together, you all know how important space is when you are living with teens. Especially on vacation.
But, that said, I still had to deal with the wackiness that is my family. We went everywhere together--ugh. Except for when they all went for a hike to Eagle Falls and I.....well....hiked to the pool. And while togetherness is swell and all.......it does make for a long week--ask Colin. If he wasn't ready to go back to college before, he sure is now. That Joe sure is annoying sometimes. Sheesh.
But we still had this to enjoy. Sigh.
And the air was sweet, the temperatures warm, the humidity high, and the scenery lovely. I miss it already.
So, now we are home and I have some 4000 loads of laundry to do and some kitty petting to make up for. We are back in full-swing with a band event today and Sunday, plus school registration on Monday. The calendar didn't rest while we were gone, it was merely catching it's breath before gearing up again. Sigh.
And in the midst of it all, I'll be weaning the "hee-haws" and "ya'll's" out of my system.

Yay! So glad you got time away with the fam-bam! This looks like a wonderful time--even the "too much" family togetherness.
You look all happy and calm and rested - Good for you!
Welcome back! Seems that all y'all "done it good."
Glad you were able to disconnect for a week! Looks like a beautiful place to unwind and relax. Welcome back!
Yay! You sound like you guys had a great time. :)
Funny, but another one of my blogger friends just returned from that same camp, me thinks. He took a similar photo of the waterfalls!
I'm glad you had a happy and relaxing vacation!
I see you enjoyed the Silver Bullet all week. :-)
Betty--I sorta liked the solitude of the non-air conditioned back deck. ;) It was my secret hideout.
Grace--Oh, it was nice, Grace. NICE.
Vanilla--Hee! Haw! But I missed y'all
Beaded Tail--It wasn't as hard walking away from it all as I thought it would be. That sorta scared me, though. It's hard getting back into the swing of it all.
Rebecca--Really?? It's Cumberland Falls, KY. You'll have to link me so I can check out your pally's trip too. That would be a strange coincidence, wouldn't it?
Daisy--We met a kitty named Patrick too! He was a really sweet kitty. :)
Jodi--I downed a few beers, but you know I was mixing up some Vodka gimlets too. ;)
The cabin sounds great! Now that's my kind of camping. What book did you read? Glad you had a relaxing time with your family. The scenery looks very peaceful. Congrats on being able to disconnect from blogging fr a whole week--don't know if I could do that . . . unless I was at a place like that!
And why would you want to expunge the "Hee Haws?" I like Hee Haw, and it still runs on RFD-TV. I catch all of those reruns--thanks to the DVR.
Glad you had a good time away from the routine and that office that you "love" so much.
I have been jonseing for your replies to comments. It's good to have you back at the Ducken Wheel.
Looks like you had one heck of nice place to disconnect. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
