Semi-Wordless Wednesday

I love hydrangea season--they are pretty much my favorite flower.  Except they don't have a fragrance, which they should because then they would definitely be my favorite flower.

I can't imagine living somewhere where there are flowers year round. Would you take them for granted, I wonder? Do you just pass by the colors without taking a second look?  Do you even notice when certain plants are in bloom and others are done?

Seasons are good, I think, because it forces us to notice things like colors and smells, and changes in the world around us.  It's good to appreciate that these are only here for a short time. I mean, I just wait for that darn bush to bloom each year and it never lets me down.

Well, except for that no-smell part.

I have always wanted one of those bushes and just have never gotten one. They are very pretty and it is too bad they don't have a good smell but the blossoms are so darn big, it makes up for it.Have a super day.

We do take them for granted. I only notice them when we're in the highlands. The flowers in the cooler climate are bigger and certainly more beautiful.

They are very pretty. You can't really say you are disappointed about the lack of aroma because you know to expect that. ;-)

Oh I love hydrangeas, too! I have Nikko blue which are BRILLIANT. When they decide to bloom, that is. Which is not necessarily very often. :-p

I like four seasons, too. Some studies have shown that it keeps the brain sharp, and that is why folks in the northern hemisphere were *usually* more inventive and scholarly than folks in the southern hemisphere. It doesn't have anything to do with the people themselves, as north and south are both filled with intelligent and thoughtful people. But these studies showed it was the climate-- northerners were more likely to hustle and bustle while the south wanted to take it a bit slower. I don't know if that's all true, I guess it is.... I've read tons of studies and books that have noticed the difference. Interesting.

My hydrangea's haven't bloomed much the past few years. I am guessing that they might need a little nurturing!

We have to agree to disagree on the hydrangeas - I dislike those things - probably inherited the dislike from my mother BUT Seasons? Oh yes, even a non-nature person like me notices the changes and finds them delightful...AND yes, flowers and trees and fruit - all should have distinctive smells...Probably why my favorite flowers all have strong and distinctive perfume!

I love those! I planted some at my last house, but I made a bad choice of locations and they didn't survive. I'll live variously through you now!

I love hydrangeas too! I can grow them here but they must be in the shade and watered a lot...

We've got flowers year-round here, but we never get tired of them. Come visit me in January!

Hydrangea take me back to my childhood since almost every home had one. I have an Endless Summer Hydrangea. It blooms from Spring to first frost in Fall. The only drawback is that it requires so much water and we are short on rainfall.

I wish we had four different seasons where I live. If it goes below 70 degrees here, everyone bundles up!

Here I note the seasons by the color of the mountains....

I love the seasons too although I think I could handle not having them if I lived somewhere like Hawaii. The flowers there smell so fabulous I can't imagine ever taking them for granted!

I would love to notice more color, except for--the squirrels. ButI won't go there again....

Marg--I love them! I have 3 in 3 different spots in my yard and each is very different. I have one that has never, ever bloomed. :(

Veronica Lee--I would imagine that if you have beauty every day that you don't realize how beautiful it is where you live. I think our drab winter makes us crave some sort of color.

Vanilla--I would love to stick my nose in one of those blossoms to find a lovely fragrance. That poor flower was cheated.

Rebecca--Hmmmm...I have not heard that theory. Maybe the heat slows everyone down and the cold just keeps us moving. Although I'm not sure that would make us more scholarly. Interesting. My blossoms are all pink--my soil is not acidic enough for the blue blossoms. (Or is it too acidic?)

Diana--I think they like a bit of shade and some water to bloom. I have one plant that has NEVER bloomed for me. :(

Grace--Really??! How can you not like them?? But I'm like that with roses--can't stand 'em. Even if they smell pretty.

Violet--I don't have enough yard to have many, but I do have 3. And each one is very different from the other because of their location. I think they like it with some shade and lots of water. You need to get a new one, pally!

Melodie--I think they like that here too. Mine sort of wilt in the sun when it is too hot.

Betty--Oh, don't even tempt me!! I'm thinking that I should go on a blogger trip, visiting all of my blog pallies and writing about it. Wouldn't that be fun??

blueyes--I love how they are green or white when the blossoms first start out, then gradually turn either pink or blue. Lovely. Just lovely. I've heard of azalea festivals, but I'm not that big on those.

Jean--Oh yeah, I have one of those too and mine started out blue, but is now pink. They are great for all season blooming. Yeah, they do love their water, don't they?

Daisy--I like the seasons. Just when you are sick of one, a new one begins. Hobbes does not like winter though--he just likes 3 seasons.

Pricilla--I can't even imagine how beautiful they are. It's so pretty where you live.

Beaded Tail--But I wonder if you grew up there if you would take it for granted? I think so. We would love Hawaii's flowers and birds, while they don't know how dreadful winter can be.

Jodi--Hahaha! Those squirrels are out to get you, Jodi!!

I just posted a pic that accidentally had my hydrangeas in them. They are HUGE this year. HUGE.

Jen--I saw it!!! It is beautiful!! But it needs some friends. :) Mine are huge this year too--I wonder what that is all about?

I totally take them for granted, although there are a few months when everything is frosted up and brown. Hydrangeas are the best, I agree (and I'm a fan of the no-smell).
