It's not for the lack of trying on Hobbes part--he always sneaks up on Grace and whacks her one, trying to get her to play chase. For some reason, Grace does not appreciate the effort and she just looks at him with that "Really?!" look, spits, and walks away--usually with Hobbes following her, attempting more whacks until he finally gives up.
I'm not sure who I feel more sorry for--Grace for not wanting to be friends or for Hobbes who can't convince her to be his pally. They are both goofy if you ask me.

Dejected Kitty walks away; spurned by the Queen. Great photo illustration for your story. Don't feel sorry for either one of them. They have already moved on.
Maybe Grace is afraid Hobbes will sit on her. He's a honking big cat, yow!
Helene--This is how they always are--together, but apart. Far apart.
Melodie--I don't know. Maybe that is the reason. Grace pretty much hates all other cats, so I'm thinking it's more her issue.
Duni--Grace is feeling better, but her bloodwork showed a decline in her kidney function, so she won't be fixing that. Hopefully we can maintain her kidney health with a change in diet.
Vanilla--Oh yeah, they don't care. Heck, there was a huge battle in the middle of the night last night! Maybe it is their way of having fun.
Rebecca--He IS a big boy! He is 17 lbs to her 9--but she is boss. Go figure.
OK. I think this could be the basis for psychological insight for us all. The question: Are you a Gracie or Hobbes?
It is go-to-the-vet day here for Mable and Zelda. Wish us luck! It's a real workout to get these two slugs in the car.
Our big cat Oreo will walk up and bop the little one Autumn in the head. She then turns around and beats the heck out of him. I don't know why he keeps trying. He always loses.

I've never had cat friends until these two that are siblings. I think when you get the cats at different times it's really hard for them to get along! Our cats nap close to one another and play, but besides that, they're really not "friends" anyway.
Betty--Hmmmmm...I think it depends on the person. There are some people I want to be friends with and then there are those I just want to whack on the head. Oh, vet day! FUN. :( Hope everyone has shining report cards!
Anne--That's what happens here! What is with that? Must be cat fun.
Pricilla--Okay, so I'm not alone in this?? I'm just weary of the battles.
Nancy--I think you are right--maybe it has to be a sibling thing. Or kitties who have grown up with other kitties around and they have good "manners". Grace was an only kitty for many years and she does not like us having other kitties in the house. Too bad.
My cats have the same kind of relationship. Except I think your Grace (gray one, right?!) give much more grace to Hobbes than my Digit (gray one too) gives to Pirate (who completely lives up to his name. I'm glad to know we're not the only household with this never ending struggle.
Hobbes just doesn't recognize that he's a cat- he thinks Grace is some other species that is not on his radar.
That's a little sad they aren't pals. Guess they both want to be the top cat!
It's too bad they aren't friends but they are both happy so that's important. Angel and Isabella are great friends and play and cuddle together all the time so they'd love to play with Hobbes!
Glad Grace is better and I hope the new food helps her kidney function! Purrs to her!
Your cats and my kids have the same relationship. Sigh.
Hmmm.... sometimes family members have a hard time showing love to each other. There is most likely a lot of love between the two of them somewhere. ;)

Miss Frankie and BB are exactly like that. Frankie will hiss at BB if he looks at her too hard. BB and Zeke always cuddled. Frankie and Zeke always cuddled but BB and Frankie? No way. Frankie doesn't even like being in the same room as BB...
LJ - It's crazy, but I get it. Grace was an only cat for many years. I swear that she had something to do with the suspicious early demise of the other two cats before Hobbes. He's lucky she lets him live!! hahaha!
Sharkey--He just wants to play with her while she wants no part of him or any other cat. I think it is Grace who has the problem.
Karen--Grace doesn't want to share her house AT ALL! I think Hobbes would be okay with another cat, but not Grace.
Beaded Tail--They are so cute together, I wish my kitties would do that. :( Grace is feeling better, but we won't do the blood work for a couple of months yet. I've heard they can live a long time with this--I hope so.
Casey--I get that--it happens all the time. I know all too well.
Catherine--I think Grace just tolerates Hobbes--and just barely at that. I think Hobbes would be nice, but Grace doesn't give him the chance. They do play chase every now and then--I think that is the closest to being friends that they get.
Grace--Yeah--that's how my two are. I guess I get that--I mean, it's like living with another person that somebody just brings home one day. That would be tough to deal with.
At least they don't kill each other?
