I love Hobbes Thursday and other stuff

It's so hot here (104 degrees) that we aren't letting the kitties out.  Well, Hobbes went out for a bit yesterday, but he just sort of laid in the shade and didn't do much more than lay there wondering why he was so darn uncomfortable.  Even playing "kitty tail" was out of the question, so you know it is hot.

Grace is out of sorts as well. She is back on antibiotics for another infection. Ugh.  And after running blood work, we are sort of noticing that her old kidneys are starting to rumble a bit.  We aren't at a dangerous stage yet, but I'm half expecting that things aren't going to get any better. She's old, my pally Grace, and I dread the thought of her not being with me.  She and I had a little discussion about flunking tests--that isn't allowed here.

On a happier note, guess who's back in dodge? Yep, a certain runaway frog--kill the fatted calf.  Em noticed that there were 3 big frogs out in the pond yesterday, and sure enough, he's decided to come back home.  And while I'm all giddy  he's home, I'm playing it cool, just in case he bails again.  I find that once they get that taste for traveling it's inevitable that they leave for good.  We'll see.

The rollercoaster of fun continues with our cable provider switching everything over to digital this month.  Can I just go on record to say that I do not care if my television is in HD or digital?  Really. That silly thing can be black and white for all I care--but apparently that isn't good enough for me. Or so cable TV providers say.  So, now that we have this "wonderful" picture, programming continues to be lame AND all my channels are messed up.  And now if I want channel 59, I have to type into my remote 88 - 59.  Seriously. 4 freaking numbers AND a hyphen. But it may be 65 - 59--I don't know, there isn't a channel listing anywhere.   I may be dead before I find my favorite shows. Ugh.

It's never dull here. Ever.  Well, maybe it is but I just think this stuff is exciting. Looooserrrrr.

We haven't had cable for a couple years. Ever so often I want it back but I never turn it on anyway. And my new $300+ tv I got 2 months ago already has a failing picture tube or digital tube or whatever.

104? Where do you live? We only got to 99 at O'Hare.

Hugs to Grace. We thought we were losing Kitty but he bounced back. Now he is a wild man at 13.

Helene--I work by Midway and live a bit south from there. My car read 104 on my ride home. Ugh! Grace is 13 too, but she is acting fine other than the infection. It may not be any time soon, but I know we don't have a ton of time with my old gal and it makes me sad.

Welcome home, Froggy! That's great he came back!

Sorry Grace is not doing real well. It is sad to see our pets go downhill. Hopefully the infection will get cleared up soon.

Why can't we just keep TV simple??? All those channels get me annoyed too when I'm trying to find something. That's really crazy how yours works.

Yea! for Frog. Get well, Grace. And no one ever seems to improve the programming.

My satellite TV provider boasts over 500 channels to view. Why do I only watch about four of them? Okay, maybe five.

Glad to hear the good froggy news. Hope Grace snaps back soon.

I HATE that our pets have such a short life span. My 8 yr old dog is getting white in the face which is adorable but a constant reminder :(

Laughing about the prodigal frog.

It truly is blazing hot. You're not kidding. I hope Grace heals up quickly and fights this off.

I could care less about digital or not digital either. I can't tell the difference between regular/high-def...none of that nonsense.

YAY for the big frog - Home again, home again - Hoppity Hop...

Extra pets and head bumps for Grace...And for you too!

I just can't get over how perfect your grass is. Wow! :)

Glad your froggie is back! Hope Gracie paid attention to that little talk about not failing tests.

We've had Kitty about 10 years and when he was so sick last year I sure didn't like the thought of losing him. Now he has lost weight and jumps around like Superman but who knows. Then again the sweet little kitten that I found dumped at my job here a couple years ago only lived 6 months.
Give Grace extra scratches and hugs for me. She's so beautiful. Darn, I even miss bus stop Henry :-)

I am so sorry about Grace. I know how hard it is to say goodbye.

I hope the antibiotics do the trick and she is with you for many more years though.

We have satellite. Dish. Much better than Direct

Oh poor Gracie!!!! I'll cross my fingers and my eyes that she "studies" up good. Yea...I couldn't tell ya what channels are what on ours either! I just put my trust in the DVR that my shows will magically show up!

What a cute photo of Hobbes! I hope Grace gets better soon. We had a kitty with kidney failure when she got older and we gave her fluids every day for 3 years until we lost her to cancer (unrelated to the kidney problem). She was happy and healthy during all that time, just needed help getting enough fluids.

Hope the frog sticks around this time!

Take away the frogs' suitcases so they stay put!

I will purr for Grace. Feel better, Grace!

Hang in there Grace! I keep thinking of the frog and Loony Tunes...Hello my baby,,hello my darlin...as he dances away!

it's hot here too. Duke goes out does his business and wants right back in.
We switched to dish network several years ago and I still don't know where any channels are. I have to start at the beginning and just keep going through them until I find what I want

I think cable companies are there to aggravate everyone. They should have kept all TV free and over the air.

yes, now that we have digital tv i never know if i'll get to finish a show or if it will break up. some improvement

Karen--The infection will clear up, but it will not improve her kidney function sadly. She's doing fine, you couldn't tell. I'm over cable at this point. If it wasn't for the kids and Joe, I'd ditch it. 5 digit dialing isn't worth the effort.

Vanilla--I don't notice any difference in the picture on the TV, I just know it is harder to just sit down and turn something on. It's so silly--all just to charge us more. Ugh. Poor Grace is just getting old. :(

Chuck--I have a few favorite channels and that's it too. I wish we could just pay for the channels we use. I'd save a LOT of money. Grace isn't going to get better, but we can keep her happy.

peewee--I dread losing Grace as she is my little buddy. She does everything with me at home. I hope she can hold on for a few more years.

Violet--It's early stages of kidney failure so it's not going anywhere. It makes me sad, but we may get some time with her yet. I hope so. I'd be happy with black and white TV with an antenna. Forget digital, HD and surrround sound--there isn't that much good on TV anyway!!

Grace--Yeah, I'm really sad about Grace because she is my little buddy. I hope we have a long time until goodbye.

Rebecca--Well, that was before. With all the heat, it's sort of dry now. :(

Betty--Isn't it funny how he came back??! Sucka. I told him it was good here--he didn't listen. Well, I told her not to bail on me last night. I hope she listened.

Helene--I'm never ready to lose a kitty friend, and especially Grace. She isn't showing any signs other than these reoccurring bladder infections. And she has gotten thin--otherwise she is like a kitten. I hope we have lots of time yet.

Pricilla--The antibiotic will only solve the bladder problem, the kidneys can't be cured. That said, we can change her diet a bit and it may maintain for some time. I hope so, I love that darn cat. I'm getting really tired of TV and all the changes.

Nancy--It's crazy! I can't find anything anymore. :( And I'm really, really crabby about it. When I finally sit down to watch something, I just want to be able to find it. Ugh.

Beaded Tail--I may have to ask you about the fluid treatment. The vet mentioned it, but I thought that might just be crazy to have to do. I mean, what do you do when you go on vacation? We aren't there yet, this is very early stages, but I'm still sad, nonetheless.

Daisy--Oh, those darn frogs never listen, Daisy. They have a good life here, but you can't tell them that. I'm happy he's back though. :)

Melodie--I swear they do that dance as they hop away. Ugh. And then they sit at the neighbor's pond and smile at me through the fence. Ugh.

Ann--Oh, it's madness. I'm so CRABBY!! This whole 5 digit process is insane--and it's a new TV!! I'm wondering if everyone is having the same problems. And if so, is everyone thinking of bailing on cable like I am?

Ratty--I agree--I swear they are pushing us out the door. Do they really think we all care about HD and digital?? I certainly don't. Especially now when I'm like James Bond with my secret codes to find the channels. Ugh.

Sharkey--I can't even find a show!! I am very crabby about this whole TV thing.

I'm thinking Grace is rather stubborn and she'll be fine. :) 104 degrees would make my crew miserable! :(

Oh sweet Hobbes ~ I think it is best if kitties stay inside. It's just too too hot for anyone or anything out there. Perhaps the froggies should come inside too Lin. That way, they can't hop away again and they can stay nice and cool.... ;)

Sending best wishes for sweet Grace to get feeling better!
xo Catherine

I suppose it was getting to hot for frogmanses to be hopping around aimlessly, so he came back to the temped waters of the pond.

Lauren said...

Hey! I like your new spots!

Duni said...

Oh no. I'm sorry to hear Grace isn't doing so well. Sending purrayers ♥
I can't believe it is so hot where you live. Our temps are hovering at 59°F - no such thing as summer over here.
Hope Grace's bloodtest comes back okay...please let us know!

Lin said...

Storm--Oh, you wouldn't believe how testy everyone in the world is right now. This heat is making everyone crabby. Ugh. Makes life very interesting. We just hope to eek a few more years out of old Grace. I love that darn cat.

Catherine--Even the frogs were out of sight with these temps. They know to stay out of the sun, but Hobbes--yeah/no. He goes to sit outside and we have to bring him right back in.

Jodi--I don't know how or why he came back--the grass wasn't wet or anything. It's weird. Either way, I'm glad he is back. It's nice to have a full pond again.

Lauren--Thanks, pally. It's sort of a variation on a theme. I can handle only so much change and right now I'm dealing with my TV channel line-up.

Duni--Grace's kidneys are starting to fail a wee bit. It's not bad, but it's just a sign she is getting older, which we could have found out by just looking at her and not spending all that money on bloodwork. This heat isn't helping --everyone is a little on edge. Ugh.

Ugh, sorry about Grace being under the weather. Look into amino acid therapy (I use them for my kids but they also have healing qualities for animals). Crazy but true.

I can't believe that asshole frog came back home. I would send him packing!

Lin said...

Casey--I will look into them. Her kidneys are starting to show their age, so I don't know if there is anything we can do to help that, but everyone is saying that it is common and she probably has a lot of time yet. I hope so.
