Cousin Fest

Guess who's in town?? Every one of my wacky family members. Yep, it's pretty hilarious to see all those people we used to hang with as kids all grown up with kids of their own--it's kinda like Cousin Fest.

I don't think our full family has been together in years as we are all spread out around the country. And even if they do live nearby, we just don't see each other because, well, life is busy. It's nice that a wedding brings us together because we have 3 days of parties to catch up after all those years.

We were introducing the kids to everyone last night and after the 50th cousin introduction, Em said "So, pretty much everyone here is a cousin, right?" Yep. There are cousins, second cousins, cousins by marriage, cousins once removed, and third cousins.  When in doubt, call them cousin and give 'em a hug. That was sort of my theory.

I laugh that while Joe's family is beige, mine is very colorful.  Each of us is a character in their own right, vying for the limelight and the center stage at every opportunity. From kid to adult, there are some strong personalities--none of which are boring.  It's hilarious to just sit back and watch the madness when we get together.  And while most of it is fun, there has been the rare occasion of  eff-bomb dropping at Thanksgiving dinner and some ruffled feathers. But what family doesn't, right?

That said, this is a group that knows how to laugh and have fun--they also know how to party.  I've survived the rehearsal dinner last night, but there is a full day ahead today.  Cousin Jill and I both joined the kids on riding the plastic tricycle down the hill last night--white pants and pink dress unscathed--while not one relative blinked an eye.  I guess they are just used to that sort of stuff with this group.

The wedding is today and I'm sure there is gonna be blog fodder galore.  And yes, I'm bringing the camera.

"...every one of the wacky family members." And apparently the sane ones, too. I love family reunions; I even go to the spouse's family get-togethers. Also, not all the nuts are on your family tree!

Lucky you have so much family still around. Got together with my sister and her husband (blech!) over the 4th holiday.

At least it sounds like you enjoy your family, even if they are whacky. Have fun!

I can only imagine how fun filled the day is going to be for you :) I hope no one dies laughing...lol
The only time I get to see all my cousins any more is when there is a funeral. Most are quite a bit older than me and the last funeral I went to I knew one was a cousin but couldn't remember her name. I just gave her a big hug and pretended like I did :)

i suspect that a wedding from your point of view would give me a perspective i might be able to appreciate. i'm not a big wedding fan for the most part.

I come from a small family, so I always have found big families super entertaining - when I was a kid, I would happily attend everyone else's family reunion just to see all the crazy relatives! lol :)

Sounds like the perfect family. I come from a family of nuts too, Lin. Hey, maybe we're cousins?

Mary Ann--IF there are pictures, they ain't gonna be pretty!

Vanilla--Seriously?? I don't like these things too much. I'm not big on crowds. Can you take my place?

Grace--Well, I dunno. We have a lot of drama, so it's not all fun all the time. I try to keep my sense of humor through it all.

Diana--I think it was! Look at my cousin's doll. How come I didn't get that???!

Anon--My family is pretty spread out, but I think that is a good thing. A little space helps keep everyone nice. :)

Cruiser--If they aren't laughing with you, they are laughing AT you. I love family.

Pricilla--:)

Karen--Well, it depends on the day and the event.

Ann--This was nice because it wasn't a funeral, thank god. Good to have a happy occasion to get together.

Chuck--Just barely.

Melodie--Well, that's happened before!

Sharkey--I'm not big on crowds or big family events--it's sort of stressful for me for some reason. I think I have to have the right attitude. Working on it.

Storm--Well, we've got LOTS Of crazy!! We are COLORFUL and loud, that's for sure!

Casey--I KNOW we are cousins, pally! I just know it. :)
