We had this huge storm blow in the other day and while it knocked down trees and left hundreds of thousands (yes, really) of people without electricity, it just left me two wee nests in the yard. Where they came from, I have no idea--I just know there are a couple of birds homeless today. Well--not really, I was just being dramatic. I don't really think anyone was living in those nests anymore.
I was talking to a woman I know about this storm and she was all doomsday about it. She went on and on about how the weather is so weird now and there is so much damage these days. And then, she made that link to "it's the end of the world". Really? 'Cuz I'm not sure that the equation of wind + no electricity = the apocalypse. Talk about dramatic. Sheesh.
Okay, so I get that it's been weird this year with lots of snow and rain. Then there is the hot weather, earthquakes, tsunamis, and droughts--but I'm not convinced those four horsemen are saddling up. I would think that if God was taking us down, he wouldn't be dragging it out so darn long. I'm guessing that the end of the world ain't comin' on the back end of some tree falling down in my yard.
I tried calming her with the notion that we just notice the damage of such occurrences now that we are so dependent on cell phone towers and electricity to run our computers and big screen TVs. Add to that we live so darn close in the city that if a tree falls, it does damage--to lots of things nearby. And trees fall all the time in forests and such--we just notice it more now that we are taking over every inch of green space on this earth. There's too many humans on this planet and sometimes nature has a way of encroaching on "our" turf.
So, I left my friend freaking out and saying some prayers. I wished her well and hoped that if the end was near, may it be quick and painless. And then I went on my merry way to have that stupid orthopedic shoe taken off my foot.
Who cares if it's all gonna end tomorrow--at least I'm going down with two matching shoes.

Like your new blog design--it's cute. Glad you are getting your orthopedic shoe off--good for you! Hope no trees fall on your house.
Hallelujah for the boot removal!
I am not morbid about it, nor do I mean to put too fine a point on it, but the world ends every day for someone. I just plan to be ready when it is my time.
I like the thought above ~ every day someone's world ends. That is so true!
Glad you have your matching shoes Lin! ;)
Have a happy weekend!

You sure do meet a lot of Christians (or religious folk) all the time. Interesting.
I found three downed nests around here after that storm. A lot more opportunities out here with all the space we have.
We have encroached on Mother Nature and the "unusual" weather patterns are of our own making - Not to get to philosophical here - we have finite resources and finite space on this planet - something's gotta give. Rather than prayers, letters to governing bodies would be more useful.
YAY for matching shoes!
I'm glad to be back and I'm loving your new blog design! Hooray for the boot removal. You should have a party!!!
I never thought of it that way...every day trees fall in the forest but we don't respond, react or even realize it.
Your friend shouldn't worry. God knows just when it's "when".
Karen--I had to spiff it up a bit--it's sort of the same, with small changes. We don't have any big trees to fall around here. After everyone having plumbing issues due to tree roots, many big trees have been removed--fortunately or unfortunately.
Vanilla--Yeah, I hope it is just quick when my time comes. Life and death is a daily happening, isn't it? I'm digging having matching shoes again!!
Catherine--me too! And I can wear heels again. Hooray!
Rebecca--Do I?? Or do I just write about them?? I hope that isn't bad!
Chuck--I found the tiniest of nests--I think it is from a gold finch or something. It is absolutely perfect!! It also includes some Hobbes fur and tinsel from our Christmas tree. :) What a lovely find!
Grace--That's how I feel too, Grace! This woman was FREAKING, I tell ya. It was very weird, so I made a quick exit.
Chocolate--Hello, Mrs. Married Lady!! Congratulations on all that happiness in your life, pally!! I think we all live too close now and it surprises me when humans complain about coyotes stealing their dogs and deer eating their flowers. It's a losing battle with nature, I think.
Yay for matching shoes!
All those things have always happened but lately the news just reports it more since there isn't much else news going on I guess. Our weather has been nearly perfect lately so I guess our end isn't quite as near as those who *gasp* have thunderstorms and heat!
Have a styling weekend!
People have been thinking it's the end of the world since the beginning of the world. With 24hr news coverage and idiot newscasters that think every tree falling down is "Breaking News" (no pun intended) and idiot preachers saying that Judgement Day is here some people are always gonna be on the edge.
When it's your time it's your time and that's about it.
Segue from End of the World to Orthotics! BTW, I hear it's all sandals in heaven...! Fran's Dad
This is so weird because just yesterday one of the girls at work was talking about the same thing. She was saying that she thinks it a sign telling us to get ready for something huge.
Good to know you'll be wearing matching shoes.
matching shoes is good- although i believe there will be an end, i don't think we can make too much out of the weather in general. there have been many periods of bad weather in history- think of the dustbowl- now that might have tempted me to think end of the world.
I guess it's all a matter of perspective. Those birds probably thought their world was ending...
I'm with you though, what's the point of worrying about it when we could kick back and enjoy the here and now?
