Rushing to Relax

I made up my mind at the beginning of summer that I was going to do everything I wanted to do at the beginning of summer. You know how you say "I wanna (fill in the blank) this summer"? Well, I wrote those thoughts down and I purposefully set out to accomplish that list.  It's kinda like a bucket list--without the bucket.

We've hung out with the band friends, made plans for Taylor Terry and his family to come over for dinner, signed Emma up for colorguard camp, gotten together with our friends Pete and Judy, and are renting a cabin for a week.  I think the only thing missing is getting out to Will Oaks campground with my tent for a few days of communing with Mother Nature.

It's a shame that our lives lead to these harried summers where we scramble to relax a bit. We quick grab our calendars when we have that brief meeting of dear friends, planning a date so that the summer doesn't get away from us without seeing them. We plan and plan....to sit, enjoy and laugh.

Hope this weekend finds you chilling a bit. Breathe deep, pallies, and enjoy.

I always make those "I wanna _____this summer" lists. Seems like I never do half the stuff on the list.
We'll definitely be chilling this weekend since it's supposed to be cold and rainy. phooey.
Will Oaks campground. Is that the will oaks from Karen's blog will oaks studio?

Oh, honey, I hear ya! I'm still rushing around! Trying to enjoy summer nights... so far, I have about a 1 in 3 success rate.

Maybe life has become so busier because us moms work now? Even a few years ago, before I was working, I remember actually READING a newspaper or strolling through the weeded garden. I'm grateful for the work, though. But it sure is busy!

Enjoy your weekend.

I was going to relax more this summer but the PO won't forward my mail to the hammock!

Ann--We never do them either, that is why I am determined to do it this summer! I'm doing good so far. Yes, that is Karen's campground. It looks lovely so I want to check it out.

Rebecca--I think computers, email, and cell phones have made our lives crazier rather than easier. Everyone expects contact NOW, which just adds to the stress level. I liked being unavailable before.

Vanilla--Isn't it crazy??! I'm gonna relax today with friends--can't wait!

Chuck--Hahaha! Yeah, me too! At least I don't have to shovel today--last winter's snow melted. That's one thing checked off the list. :)

Diana--Maybe that is a good thing. Go sit on that hammock and enjoy being unavailable!

Taylor Terry--We can't wait either!! Be sure to tell the fam to dress in eye black and dark clothing. We are going on a recon mission to get that frog. I vote for Brad to go over the fence! Hahahaha!

Love the photo of Hobbes's feet! I have one of those lists and haven't done anything on it yet. We are certainly chilling this weekend though since after a week and a half of tearing up carpet and moving furniture we are both too dang sore to do much of anything else!

Love the picture. Hobbes looks so vulnerable with those pink pads and the cute curl to his tail. Of course we know he's lord of the backyard. I like your plan for the summer.

I definitely need a relaxing break. A long one where I can sleep without hearing kids' voices in the background, neighbors walking on my ceiling or knocking on my door and asking me to watch their children when I don't have mind.

Sounds like your summer is off to a good start Lin! Hope you are having a good weekend.

I made the I wanna ...... list on the first day of summer break. It isn't terribly ambitious but I am trying to keep my kids busy.

I have to have "easy time" every day just to keep me balanced and sane. And...it almost always works.:)

I say move to Malaysia! In this way, you don't have to cram all your summer activities into one season!!

Helene--Aaarrggghh! Thanks, Helene.

Beaded Tail--I think new floors counts as a BIG to-do! That is soooo much work, isn't it? I'll bet you are glad it is done. :) You have earned a rest.

Sharkey--I'm gonna live like Hobbes this summer! Well, except for the licking my feet part.

Petula--Remember when summers were lazy? What happened to that??!

Catherine--It seems like summer just started and it's the fourth already! WOW. I'd better get going on that list!

Daisy--Right on, Daisy!! Hobbes has already munched down one catnip plant in the yard, so I know he's enjoying summer. :)

Melodie--I'm making time for fun, pally! Otherwise I just work, work, work. Glad you are back!! ;)

Anne--My list is more about scheduling in fun because then the summer flies by and we haven't seen everyone that we wanted to. I'd say get those kids out of dodge a few times a week--I think that helps break the boredom.

Jean--My secret is a wee nap in the afternoon. Keeps me tolerable. ;)

Veronica--Perfect! But then you and I would be busy hanging out all the time and then we'd BOTH get nothing done!! Hahahaha!

Hi Lin!
well I think you already crossed off quite a number of things on your list! Schools not out here yet, so summer kind of starts later for us.
I do hope we get a bit of sun so we can enjoy our garden!
I LOVE Hobbes pink feet :D

A lot of things are like last winter's snow. Wait long enough and they go away. Unfortunately, not all do. Wisdom comes in knowing the difference. Sure wish I was smart. Just saying . . . :)

Duni--You aren't out of school yet??? Criminy, what are they waiting for???! They've talked of changing school to year round here, but I'm sort of glad they haven't done that with my kids yet. I like that down time and carefree days. :)

Chuck--Yeah, I know. Some problems just get worse if you don't handle them. I was just laughing the other day at a house who's gutters were blooming! Talk about neglect. Ugh.
