Joe keeps insisting that I clear my computer of my photos to save on hard-drive space. And while that is a great idea from a techno standpoint, it doesn't work well for blogging. You see, I love to peruse the photo collection to spark a thought or a story. And if they are sent to photo Siberia, whatever will I do?
And there are all those great frog photos in my cache....I mean, how do I ditch those to permanent storage? Criminy. What is he thinking?
Look at today's photo--this was from year's back, when we had some ridiculous amount of frogs all happy and hanging out pondside. That was the only time I had an army (an army is a group of frogs) like that. Now I just have weirdo control-freak frogs who chase all the other frogs away. And after all the rain we've had lately, I may just have one wee frog left. Sigh.
I love having the photos available to me all the time with a few clicks of the mouse. I think about all of those videos that we took of the kids, on VHS, sitting alone and unused in the cabinet. It drives me crazy that technology keeps changing and rendering all of these memories inaccessible and not enjoyed.
So, no, Joe. You cannot improve my computer speed or hard-drive space. I want my frogs close at hand, thank you very much.
On another note, stop by our pally Helene's blog today and wish her well--she is graduating with her Master's Degree today!! Hooray for Helene!!! I'm really proud of her for accomplishing such an incredible task in spite of caring for her family and working a really icky job. She should be very proud of herself today!!
Congratulation's Helene!! And Happy Weekend to you, pallies!

I am right with you on this one, Lin. I love all of my photos! Hubby is always wanting to move them somewhere in cyber-space and I tell him to Leave My Pictures Alone!! ;)
I am going over to Helene's right now! :)
A bunch of frogs is an "army"?! What, does some expert grammar Nazi sit around and figure out weird names for bunches of animals? A murder of crows, a gaggle of geese...
And wow, you knew it was "army"! You ARE the FROG LADY EXTRAORDINAIRE, baby!!!
Save the frog fotos save the frog fotos! Hey, if Joe gets adamant, let us know, we'll start a picket line....
To be practical: get an external hard drive and keep it permanently attached to your computer and store photos there. My husband did that with his music. Or - you can install a bigger hard drive and transfer everything over to it. Several ways to keep what you want at hand.
And that's a great froggy foto...
(It appears that according to Word Verification I am "unfor" today. Who knew?)
I will let my husband back up my photos onto an external hard drive but I refuse to let him take them off my laptop for the same reasons. I feel comforted having them a mouse click away!
Sorry to hear you just have an army of one frog this year.
You don't want to know how many goat photos I have....
YIKES! I had no idea. Thank you :-)
And wow, a comment from Lin's mom?? Cooooooooooooool. She is the coolest mom :-)That was like a surprise party :-) Boy was I surprised.
And yeah, what's up with that? I got everything transferred to VHS and now...oh well.
Lin, I love to do the same thing. I have an external hard drive on my laptop (I disconnect it when I travel). I move my photos to it when they're aging, but I still want them. A big extra hard drive will hold a lot of pictures. I can access them from my laptop anytime I'm hooked up to it - which is most of the time.
That said, I need to do it again.
Marilynne
I hear ya, I like easy access to my photos too!
We don't have a pond, but we do seem to have a strange little frog living in a bush near our pool. Whenever anyone starts splashing around in the water, he comes out of hiding and jumps in! Crazy frog!
My daughter named him Hervay... oh my!
Geez Lin ya coulda warned me :-) You send people over and I have that post up?? I only write for you since no one comes there any more and now your mom probably thinks I am a nut case. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh:-) I am, but still...
Well- a large capacity flash drive, or even an external hard drive is only a USB port away. Very easy to deal with, really. Nice army!
I have all my pictures on an external hard drive. It's always connected to my computer and all my pictures are right there where I can peruse and look for blog post material any time :)
I forgot to mention in my last comment that yes I haven't felt much like being on the computer much lately. So many different things I want to do.
I think your computering problem is the same as mine. My photo cache is grinding the processing down, I fear. I may have to go to one of Grace's suggestions. :-)
So many photos... so little storage space... ;)
Hope you had a super weekend Lin!

An army of frogs...huh....I did not know that! Cool! I am totally with you on the technology changing with a blink of an eye. Gosh, we have seen vinyl records, 8 tracks, cassettes, CDs, Beta, VHS, DVD, bluray, floppy discs, flash drives...etc, etc. And I am totally agreeing with you on the pics....keep those froggy pics.
I miss the days when we had actual photos to look at and to put into an album. Seems nobody does that around here anymore. It's all digital.
Your froggies really look happy in the pic :)
That probably is a good idea to do, to put the pictures on an external drive. They do take up tons of space. I need to look into an external drive but I have heard you can pick up viruses in those for some reason. Wish I understood more about the computer. Love the picture of the frogs. Too bad there is only one left.
A.Marie--I don't like this new digital age where I can lose my photos in a blink of an eye. :( I think I have them copied 3 different places!
Rebecca--My army is down to one lone frog--I'm not sure I'm gonna win any battles with those kinds of numbers. :(
Grace--We have an external hard drive to back up to, so I guess they are there already. But I've had a hard drive crash, which scares me to lose all those photos. I don't like all this new technology!
Beaded Tail--I like them right there too! I have a hard drive to back our computer up to, but I still don't feel like they are safe there. I imagine it crashing and I lose everything! EEEK!
Pricilla--I think that is a good thing! :)
Helene--Yeah, we did that too--everything is on VHS and now we can't watch them! Ugh. Now we have to transfer everything AGAIN!
Marilynne--I back up to a hard drive and put my photos on CD's too, but it's such a pain. AND I feel like I can lose them in an instant.
Lynne--I like your frog!! He sounds adorable--kinda like Pool Party Frog! :)
Helene--Well, you are a good nut case, Helene. :)
Sharkey--We've had a hard drive crash before, so I'm a little weary of putting them all there. I do back up to one, but I also back up my photos on CD. That said--I like them handy for posts and such.
Ann--I guess the hard drive is what everyone does. Sigh. Did you all talk to Joe?
Vanilla--We back up to a hard drive, but I'm really dreading putting the photos there all the time. I don't trust anything to keep my photos from disappearing.
Catherine--No kidding!I really do need to clean out the bad ones.
Hot Rocks--I don't know how to where to store everything! EEK! Sounds like everyone is in the same boat though.
Duni--I still print some out, but I've been bad about that lately. But yes, I think it was easier to keep track of your photos in the old days. And I think we didn't take and save as many as we do now.
Marg--We back up our computer to a hard drive, but I've had a hard drive crash before. It's not pretty. Nothing seems "safe" enough for my photos. Haven't heard about them being susceptible to viruses--that's scary.
I know what you mean- you could put them on an external hardrive though. So that you can just plug it in and look anytime you want but still save on space:)
Nancy--We had a hard drive fail once--so I'm scared to lose them all. I think I need like 3 hard drives to back them up in a bunch of places!
I'm with you.. most of our pictures are stored on our server and it takes forever to load... I hate having them there. So don't back down to Joe! (Sorry, Joe).
