I can't move today. Every bone, every muscle, every thought in my brain hurts--because of the fence. We spent Memorial Day rolling and brushing that thing into redwood beauty. Both sides (thanks to the cooperation of the new neighbors) are finally stained and prepped for another 5 years. Whew!
It wasn't the actual fence that makes the job so darn difficult--it is the utility poles at either end of the yard, the grounding wires for the utility poles, the plants, the intense heat and sun, 2 cats who insisted on being underfoot, the friends stopping by for a visit, and my sprained foot that all seemed to work against us. But in the end, the four of us conquered the beast. Thank goodness we only have to do this every few years--my body can't take the beating.
Oh--pond news: We are now the new family of Mr. Cuddles, the goldfish. Remember me vowing to not have fish anymore? Yeah, well....that sort of went out the window with a few too many cocktails on Saturday night when we adopted Mr. Cuddles. I still don't know why our friends didn't want their fish, but apparently they saw "sucker" (or "drunk") on my forehead and sent him my way. Sigh. And no, I didn't name him--he came with that moniker.
Damn, we're back to having a fish again.
So, the backyard was spiffed up this past weekend--both by a newly stained fence and a fish called Mr. Cuddles. I am one lucky gal.

Too exciting for words...
So sorry you're in pain but the fence is beautiful. I for one am happy you have a fish and I love his name. Maybe Mr. Cuddles will find a friend to love and you'll have baby fishies.
Reckon how did he get hung with Mr Cuddles?
Stiff and sore ~ but glad the fence is all painted I think! And a new fish? We look forward to the fish tales Lin!! :)
Happy Tuesday ~ hope your muscles get feeling better soon!!!
xo Catherine
I assume there will be a Mrs. Cuddles??? And then some Cuddlettes?
Think not of the aches and pains
but bask in the sunshine of achievement! ;)
Congrats to you on Cuddles; you mae me laugh! thank you...
and oh, about that fence; UGH! I am sore this morning because I planted and dug holes for things I PLAN on planting...life is never dull, is it?
:)
Pics of the new family member, plz!
Hello Mr. Cuddles! Can't wait to hear more about you. Congrats on the fence. What a fabulous job.
Is that the shadow of a heron I see.....
Oh noes!
Mr. Cuddles is that you FLYING?
:O
Mr. Cuddles will need some fish friends in the pond now! Glad all went well with the fence and that that project is over!
Wow, well I guess you have the next 4 years to recover then! And as for the fish, well, taking unwanted ones is quite different from adopting more on your own. Anything unwanted is just too sad to pass up:)
Ha ha ha...looking forward to stories about Mr. Cuddles! Glad you succeeded in getting your fence done.
Don't even try it! I know you're happy, happy, happy to have that fish! :) But what a goofy name they gave him!
But I have seem a picture of him...
At least he's got a cute name. The fence turned out great and now you can forget about it for another five years. Nice work, my dear.
rest those sore muscles and sit back to admire that fence. Take the time to get to know Cuddles too :)
I hate those jobs that used to be so easy to do and now only inflict pain.
Gosh- can an indoor fish suddenly adapt to life in the suburban wilds?
ps I love the name Mr Cuddles.
Helene--Seriously? You aren't excited at the prospect of Mr. Cuddles?
Mtn Woman--Oh, we have baby fishies alright--by the minnows. Them is some prolific fish. Ugh. They have already spawned and it's not even June yet. Mr. Cuddles is on his own, I'm afraid.
Chuck--I'm not asking.
Catherine--Mr. Cuddles is no bigger than the minnows, so I won't be taking photos of him just yet. I give him a month on algae and we won't recognize him!
Grace--Oh, please. NOOOOOO!
Vanilla--Thanks, pally. It was a good feeling to be DONE!
Tracy--I like being tired from working in the yard. It's a healthy pooped, isn't it? And a real sense of accomplishment. Now Mr. Cuddles....he's another story.
Diana--Yeah/no. I'm just mad he has a name. I quit naming fish years ago. Ugh.
Anne--Mr. Cuddles is no more than a glorified minnow at this point. One month on pond algae and he'll be the size of Manhattan. Sigh. This is soooo NOT what I wanted.
Pricilla--And that is why I DON'T want fish! I really do not want to be bringing him in for the winter either. Ugh. Do you goats want a fish friend?
Beaded Tail--NOOOOO! He can hang with the minnows and that is IT! I love when projects are over, don't you? :)
Nancy--Yeah, that's how I felt. He was just sitting in some dirty water with no aeration. I figured somebody had to save him. But why ME???! See what too much wine will do to you?
Hot Rocks--I'm really hoping Mr. Cuddles doesn't cause me problems or grief. I'm just so done with caring for fish. I like the minnows--they are no hassle. Maybe Mr. Cuddles will hang out with them and learn. Keep your fingers crossed!
Violet--What isn't goofy around here?! I was just trying to reduce some responsibilities around here!!! Ugh. Fish are more work than I care for right now. Do you want a fish to make up for the absence of your son???? :P
Tracy--You did??
Casey--It's a buggar of a job, but at least the kids helped. I'm hoping we move before the next staining!! I'm not thrilled about Mr. Cuddles. I'm thinking your kids might want him, eh???? :P
Ann--Thank goodness the fence is only on the back of our property. If it was bigger, I'm not sure we'd take such good care of it. It's too much work!! Now Mr. Cuddles and I can just chill.
Sharkey--Yep. Except he will have to come in for the winter. That is the part I do NOT like. Ugh. With all that yummy algae, Mr. Cuddles will be the size of Manhattan in no time!
Helene--Yeah, who doesn't?! I think it is hilarious. Funny how Mr. Cuddles finds OUR house!
Love the birdhouse by the way, it's gorgeous!
As for the fish, yes, I suspect "drunk" is what you had painted on your forehead. I'm sure it was a lovely look though :) You do know, fish can be flushed...just thought I'd point out the obvious.
If he is gonna get bigger under your care yikes! we're gonna have another Hobbes but in fish form.
Sandra--I have such a soft heart--I don't flush even dead fish, so I can't imagine actually killing one. He'll lead a great life out there--so much better than the dirty bowl of water he was in. Sigh.
Helene--Those fish go from puny to GIGANTOR in no time out in that pond. All that space and yummy algae apparently works.
