We-love-Hobbes-Thursday, but we love Grace too

I'm thinking Grace is feeling pretty darn good if she can do this. Ugh. She's like SuperCat now--all medicated up with antibiotics and pain meds and doing wacky stuff. It's like she is a kitten again.

I guess she's gonna make it after all. Not that I was panicking or anything.....

I love when the vet asks you whether you want the meds in liquid or pill form. Uh--do I want to find that darn white dot everywhere in the house but in the cat's throat, or do I want to be tasting cat antibiotics all day long because I'm wearing on my skin? It's the Russian Roulette of cat meds, and it's never easy or pretty.

Poor Grace--or poor me. I'm not sure who has it worse--the one who gets this stuff crammed down their throat or the one who gets all scratched up doing the cramming. Neither job is pretty and both of us eye each other warily every 12 hours, wondering when the next adventure begins.

Thank goodness we only have a day or so more of this fun.

awwwwwwwwww
We got our elderly 13 year old kitty free (?) from diabetes and now you would think he is a kitten again-finding him high everywhere on top of things where he could barely walk just months ago. You go Grace!

I gave a friend's cat a pill years ago-never again. Note to self-cats are NOT dogs! I may still have the holes in my fingers.

And yep when I was giving him his shots of insulin twice a day he would start hiding and saying NOW give it to me sucker-you can't reach me haha. My son would also have to drag him out from under the bed in another room.

So which did you choose? Grace is looking good - top of the world, Ma! (or car, as the case may be).

Who pilled the cat? Why, Lin, of course. But it's worth it if it's efficacious.

Hooray for sweet Grace feeling better!! Giving cats medicine ~ never fun!!

But so worth it to see them healthy and happy again!

Helene--Yeah, we are at the hiding stage too. It's not fun.

Grace--Liquid. It's just faster. And at least I can get most of it down her.

Vanilla--I always ask for volunteers, but somehow the family all disappears. Hmmmmmm....

Catherine--It is worth it, but you have to remind me that at medicine time!

Poor Grace, glad she's feeling better! Last time we needed that for a cat they asked if we wanted the shot, one and done but it was a lot more expensive.

Yes- not to mention the incredible guilt you feel doing something that seems horrible to your cat for their own good. I just can't stand that you can't explain it to them! Glad to see she's doing well!!!

I am so glad that Grace is back to her old self! I have a tough time giving my cat that hairball stuff. When I am done smearing his face with it,I usually have a good amount of that sticky gunk on me too.

Dogs are so much easier in this area. I give Maddie her meds in cheese and we are all happy. The cats? Ohhhhh....it's a Battle Royale.

Glad to hear Grace is feeling better!

Just a tip from G'ma Phyl--when my cat has hairballs I put some good ole vasoline (petroleum jelly) on my finger and she licks it off--no sticky gunk on me. Phyl

Great shot! Look at her! lol

I HATE giving cats meds! You'd think for what we pay the vets, they do the dang job themselves. Noooo... they only prescribe, WE have to do the dirty work. ugh.

Glad to see she's better. And glad to see you're better about her being better. Not that you were not doing better, of course...

aaaah, I'm glad she's feeling so frisky.

Have you tried wrapping her in a towel?

I can only imagine the bad part of trying to give medicine to a cat. All my cats were always mean. That's what I liked about them.

We prefer the liquid too. If they manage to get the scringe outta their mouthes they still have to lick the awful stuff off their furs. I prefer the pink type cuz you can make sure they got it all.

We're so glad Grace is feeling so well! Meds are not fun for them or us that's for sure. We always wrap them up in a towel so they can't use those claws to scratch us up. It goes pretty quickly too. Hugs and purrs to Grace and Hobbes!

I read an essay once on how to give a cat a pill. You ought to check that one out. On second thought, you may not need it. Your gal seems to be doing better. Hurray!

Medicine is yucky. If you want to use a pill, you can get a pill-gun so you don't have to stick your fingers next to the teeths!

So glad to hear Grace is feeling better. Hobbes better look out sounds like Grace is on a roll and ready to rumble...lol

So nice to see her scampering about again!

one of my least favorite tasks...giving the cat OR dog their pills! Our golden runs and hides when we open that particular cupboard. It's a hoot!

Go Grace! But giving meds to a cat is life-threatening.

Jennifer--I think I'd do the shot too. I asked them to please give Grace her first dose of meds while we were at the vet. I figured one less that I had to give, the better.

Nancy--No kidding! She runs from me now thinking I've always got the medicine. :(

Hot Rocks--I give my kitties vaseline instead of hairball stuff. They seem to like that better and lick it willingly.

Betty--Yep, it's Showdown at Big Sky here these days. Ugh.

Phyl--Hahaha! I just gave that tip to Susan! Gees, wonder who I learned it from??

Rebecca--I had them administer the first dose while we were at the vet. I'm no fool! One less dose to give--yeah!

Pricilla--I just do it quickly to get it over with. Joe's more of the towel guy--I'm just in there fast and furious. I think we only have one more dose--HOORAY!

Ratty--They don't give me too much trouble because I assert my authority over them. Joe shows them he is afraid, so they give him a harder time. I find you have to do it FAST! Don't give them time to think about it.

Ozark Mtn. Cats--I'm with ya on the pink liquid. Also, I am expert on getting it all the way down the back of the throat!

Beaded Tail--If I get scratched, then you get a nail clipping ALONG WITH the medicine. That equals one unhappy kitty. :) I'm just glad we only have one more dose! Whew!

Chuck--I can give her the pill, it's just a matter of her keeping it down. Somehow they just Houdini that thing outta their throat. Ugh.

Daisy--I need a pill gun like your Mommeh, Daisy. She's like an expert on kitties, isn't she?? You are lucky.

Ann--Oh, he was very sweet to her, believe it or not. I actually found him sleeping next to her when she was sick. She was too sick to whack him.

Violet--No kidding! It's a great sight to see. I sure was worried about her.

Tracy--Hahaha! They just sort of know, don't they? :)

Sharky--No kidding! I'm glad we only have one dose left. Whew!

Nothing like a minivan to make you feel like a kid again! ;)

I need to know about this pill gun Daisy is talking about...

Lin said...

Cute--I love the sliding paw prints that she leaves on my windshield when she does that. Argh. I want to know about that pill gun too!

That's so good that Gracie is frisky again! Giving pills to a cat is extremely difficult. We had liquid stuff for our first cat that we couldn't even manage. It got over everything and Moe was so tough--he even won with Gerard and me teaming up on him with a towel!
