I Love Hobbes Thursday

Every so often Hobbes will walk over to where I am sitting and he'll reach up to me with a lone paw. He taps me and mews softly for me to pick him up. It is then that he sits on my lap and purrs while I pet him gently and whisper into the fur on the top of his head how much I love him.

We sit like this for a bit until he decides that he has had enough. Typical of kitties--he turns on and off the love like a light switch. And while I sit there all smug and happy that we are having a nice cuddle, homeboy can turn on a dime--taking a pot-shot at my hand and jumping down with no warning.

Fickle, he is.

March has sort of been like Hobbes lately. It came to us mid-march and tapped us on the shoulder. The warm sunshine felt good on our faces as we sat in its beams and wallowed in it's warmth.

But March is fickle too, as this week brings us back to biting winds, rain and snow. Okay, so if it accumulates, it won't stay for too long, but it still hurts to have it turn like that so quickly. And I thought we were having a nice time, me and March. Sigh.

Oh, March, why have you betrayed us? I like the nice March--the warm and sunny, spring-is-coming March. I do not like the cold and snowy March that jumps off my lap and leaves me with no warning.

Fickle, it is.

Ahhh March. I love the pic of Hobbes and I love what you wrote-been feeling exactly like that. Talked to an IRS guy the other day and he said "Didn't you know? Spring is over-welcome to Fall!"
Yep March betrayed us with that nice bit. Come on April, let's try again.

Cat behavior as metaphor for March weather. Only at Duck and Wheel!

March: in like a lion out like a lamb. Except around here on the other side of the river--it came in like a lamb, is turning lion now and I can only hope it goes out like the lamb it should!

March has definitely turned on us. And it isn't even cute and cuddly like Hobbes is.

March has not been good to us up here either. A week of warm and melting, and then this week, like where you are, back to snow. This is reaching the end of month 5 for us for Winter, and April can be fickle too. We really do not get Spring here...just jumps right from Winter into Summer. I get so restless waiting for Summer to arrive.

LIN.. last week it was 70 degrees here.. today snow.. and lots of it... this March is pychotic....lol.... AWWWWWW i love that Hobbes....

I know that feeling all too well! I usually watch Sammy's tail closely. As soon as it twitches I let him go - before he can take a swipe at my hand :)

So Grace gets one stinkin' guest post and now the focus is back on Hobbes? Oh, OK, I get the comparison of Hobbes to Spring. It's just that I got so bonded with Grace....

Nice analogy - lovely bit of writing, that.

(it took 3 word verifications to post this!)

March is always a fickle month. Just when you think THIS one is going to be good...it turns around and bites. Hard.

Dear Hobbesy. So much like my Colby. He'll do the same, only he doesn't want me to pick him up (he hates that). Only wants me to feed him. *sigh*

Cheers!
Jen

Sherpa is the same way...*sigh* I love when he wants to cuddle but its rare.

It's snowing here today. Bigger *sigh*

Midnight has his cuddly moments, but it usually means he's hungry and wants something to eat. When he talks to me, there is no doubt -- he's hungry and wants something to eat.

Cats are funny like that... only want affection on their terms. I guess I'm pretty much the same way.

One of my old cats (that my parents stole) is at the vet today going through a barrage of tests to see why he's losing weight and not eating. It doesn't look good. Snuggle your orange guy tonight for me!

Love the analogy! Isabella does the paw thing to be picked up but she then rolls on her back and is out for hours. I'm the one who has to put her down so I can get the blood flowing back in my legs. She is so far from fickle!

Well I would take fickle Hobbes over fickle March any day :) Lets hope that April showers us with some sunshine and we get this train moving into summer already

I think Hobbes is like Harley; sometimes he just climbs right onto a lap for snuggle time. But the second he sees something more fun to do, he's off! I will sit in a willing lap for hours.

Fickle? It's downright traitorous!

March is definitely a fickle "b-i-bad word" as my former roommate used to say. My Lucy does that to me too- we say she likes her love like juice concentrate.

I just moved the screen to show Langley (my fat one) his "cousin Hobbes". He stared at the photo, and then at me. I think he knew I was commenting on his weight. Sensitive!

Helene--I know we have to ease into spring each year, but it just never seems to come fast enough. Sigh. I think the IRS guy was a little dramatic--we still have to experience the mega-hot days of summer yet!

Vanilla--It's pure madness here. Just try to follow along and periodically nod and pretend you are with me, okay? ;)

Jodi--It's a lion. It's a lamb. It's a lion again. Sheesh, I need a freaking scorecard!

Anne--Well, it was nice for about a day or so. Just enough to remember how nice it can be. Sigh.

Hot Rocks--I don't like that jumping right into the hot summer--that makes me crabby too. How about just a few weeks of 70 degree weather?? Doesn't that sound dreamy right about now??

natalee--Sounds like we are all playing the game with winter/spring. Ugh.

Duni--Oh, yeah. They act all sweet-like and then WHAMMO! gotcha with the nails. Ugh. What is with that???

Betty--Grace doesn't have adventures or many stories to tell, unless she writes about which side of the bed she is napping on. But that is what I love about her--no drama.

Grace--Thanks, Grace. So I made some sense for a change??

Jen--Jen, are you and Colby a member of the Red Cat Society?? I can hook you up with membership and posting rights if you want. We need some new blood over there and we'd love to have Colby. :) I think all cats just want us to feed them.

Pricilla--Hobbes is downright smoochie in comparison to all the other cats I have owned, including Grace. But still, that desertion is hard to take. :( Snow here too. Boooooo!

Chuck--Such users, aren't they? And not so subtle about it either. Sheesh.

Casey--Oh no! I hope the kitty will be okay. That is so scary when they are sick. I am sending hugs and prayers that he is okay and can be treated.

Beaded Tail--Dang. I am sincerely jealous. Grace doesn't want to be touched and Hobbes only wants to be held on HIS terms. Criminy. Even the kids don't want to be held anymore. That leaves Joe--and he ALWAYS wants to cuddle. Crap.

Ann--I'm on board that train with ya, pally. I'll bet Duke loves cuddling, right?

Daisy--Hours, really?? Grace NEVER sits on my lap. She'll sit next to me or near me, but never ON me. Sigh. Hobbes will sit on me for a bit, but it hurts my legs a LOT. He is heavy.

Jodi--I like that. And it sort of describes me, dressed in my rebellious spring coat, freezing my butt off while I run errands--sprinter! See--it just works!! Good one, Jodi.

Sharky--No kidding. Our morning snow has melted, but I think there is more coming. It's just not gonna give up, is it?

That's so cute Hobbes does that. Manny will touch me with his paw as I walk by when he's anxious for his breakfast or supper. It means I need to feed him, not that he wants me to pick him up! He does NOT like being picked up at all! He does like to jump up on me though when I'm lying down and lay on my legs which is fine with me.
