Creature Comforts

At what point in your life do things like new appliances and tools get you excited? I mean, when do we get so darn pathetic that the mere mention of a new washing machine gets your heart racing? Or you have full-blown conversations with friends over the merits of dishwashers or refrigerators? It's crazy.

Joe and I have been counting the days in anticipation for..........

(are you ready?)
A NEW MATTRESS!

Yes, it is official--we are losers. But we will be losers with backs that do not KILL us anymore.

We were like two giddy schoolgirls at the mattress store--hopping on this one and that, pretending to be sleeping while the eye-rolling salesman just sort of chuckled. He went on and on about springs and foam and warranties and such, but all we wanted was to hear when delivery was. It can't get here soon enough.

We settled on one with "Black" in its name and for the life of me, I can't remember what brand it is because Joe keeps referring it as "Black Beauty" and I insist on calling it "Black Betty". At one point, I even had the salesman calling it that. I think we scarred him for life.

So, yes, today is the day, my friends. Black Betty is coming home. And we are officially excited.

I've been a "loser" for longer than I have not. Good to know I will never be lonely in that dept.

You and I are officially losers, Lin....You are giddy over your mattress and I am giddy over possibly getting a new dryer.... LOL

Enjoy that mattress...err..Black Betty...You might need to sign that salesman up for some therapy now that you have ruined him for life!! hahahaha! :)

Good reason to be giddy...a good night's sleep is important!!! We splurged 6 years ago on a Tempurpeudic and it's been wonderful!

You are excited, but methinks Grace will be miffed when you take away her beautiful Pile O'Pillows mattress. Or am I wrong?

If that makes you a loser, I don't want to be a winner. Sleep well.

The Princess and the Pea...oh, new beds are the best - if you choose right. We got a new bed & mattress last year, along with organic cotton sheets - heavenly.

Personally I am madly in love with my new toaster oven!

A really good mattress is worth the investment! We bought new ones of excellent quality a couple of years ago....and it is amazing how much better you sleep...and no back pain! (Bam -a- lam)

I hear ya, sister. I'm excited FOR your mattress. I'm so old, I watch TV and notice the appliances/furniture in the background more than I do the actual show.

Sleep well in your new bed!

You guys are a riot! I wish I had been there to hear the sales guy call it a Black Betty. Love the picture!

In my next life, I'll have a Temperpedic bed.

Ohh look! Grace is doing the feline version of The Princess And The Pea.

So did you get it all in one firmness or half and half? When I bought a new mattress set when we moved to the burbs, Anastasia insisted on soft and squishy, while I wanted firm. So we got 1/2 and 1/2.

Is it one of those pillow top jobbers that are about six feet off the floor? If so you'll have to get Hobbes a set of cat stairs so he doesn't have to jump up there on his own.

there isn't by chance a pea under all those pillows that Grace is laying on is there?
Lucky you a new mattress. I need one bad. We bought one a couple years ago, a pillow top because that's what I wanted. Worst mattress I've ever had.

Daisy--That's exactly what the salesman was singing! You would have loved it. :)

Nancy--My lower back is very excited.

Catherine--Apparently you don't need a new mattress or you would be understanding my joy, pally. There is nothing worse than a mattress that is shot. Ugh.

Jodi--I don't think I was ever NOT a loser. I'm a happy loser though. :) C'mon and sit with me on the loser couch, pally.

A.Marie--Ooooh, a new dryer! That IS very exciting! And in case you were wondering, the salesman actually sang "Whoaa, Black Betty, bam-a-lam". It was great. :)

Diana--My lower back is very excited, pally. I can't wait to go to sleep tonight.

Chuck--Grace likes it when everything is disrupted, so today was GREAT according to her. Although she didn't like the delivery guys too much---VERY SCARY! (for her)

Grace--I can see your love for the toaster oven. Isn't it funny how certain things just make your life better? Appliances are underrated.

Hot Rocks--I can't wait to see how my back feels tomorrow! Gettin' my jammies on now..... Oh--that is exactly what the salesman was singing! Hee! Hee!

Casey--Do you ever find yourself touching the appliances in home improvement stores. Criminy, I should be arrested half the time. We are pathetic.

Kathy--Oh, he SANG Black Betty, Kathy! It was hilarious. I love when others go along with me in my silliness. It makes me laugh harder.

Lola--So, now you are stuck with half of a bed that you don't use??? Bummer.

Ozark Mtn Cats--No pillow top, but that mutha is SKY HIGH! Hobbes hasn't attempted the jump, but Grace scaled it well. Although she did look a bit confused on the landing. :)

Ann--No pea! :) And no, we didn't get a pillow top because I need a super-duper extra-firm mattress and I thought the pillowy part would just defeat my quest. Thanks for confirming my thinking on that one. :)

You will have that Black Betty Beauty, and Grace looks like there is a pea under her stack.

A new mattress would be heaven. Kids just don't understand these things. Grownups like things like this because our minds are just fully developed now. :)

There are so many choices it was hard for us to choose. How often should we get new mattresses?

Hope you sleep well once your mattress arrives.

Enjoy your first night on your new mattress! :)

Sharky--I'm thinking Grace is gonna ditch her pea and snag a spot on Black Betty. Rats.

Ratty--And our backs hurt a whole lot more. ;)

Karen--Our mattress got lumpy and sort of told us it was time to let it go. Oh--and my back was KILLING me!

Pricilla--I'm going to bed early!! Hee! Hee!

Beaded Tail--I'm gonna need a ladder to get into bed tonight--that thing is soooo HIGH! I can't wait to see if my back feels better in the morning.

FishHawk said...

Well, we are even more pathetic than you-all are. For have been SORELY in need of a new mattress for quite some time now, but we don't feel like going to get a new one.

Lin said...

Fish--After sleeping with Black Betty after only one night, I'm gonna advise you to grab your gal and go get a new mattress! Your lower back will thank you, believe me.

Oh I am a loser, too! Woohoooooo! I have a memory foam and love it.

Hey, if everyone suddenly becomes losers, does that mean everything is totally inverted and we automatically become winners and the people who were not losers are no longer winners?

Lol, okay first that sounds so like my life and second - that could so be my dog sitting atop a pile of pillows! In fact I'm sure I have a similar picture somewhere...

Thats adorable!
