Anywho...
Em had a great time dancing and I certainly had fun going to the competitions and learning about something I had no idea existed. It's a whole new world, this dance team competition--one that is chock full of big hair, make-up, sparkly costumes, and lots and lots of attitude. It's all very girly and very competitive--neither of which is me. But I went and soaked it all up and enjoyed.
And I'm gonna cool ya'll up by introducing you to the world of Kick Team. It's what I refer to as "Competitive Rockettes"--and you'll see why. This is what goes on at dance competitions all over the country:
Cool, eh? My legs hurt just watching them.

HOLY HANNAH!!!!!! That woke me up....OMG. Well I guess Rockettes have to come from somewhere? Geez.
I would kill to have some of that flexibility again. Pretty darn cool!
Legs? Every part of my body hurts after watching that! Amazing!
THAT woulda been a WAY better half time show that the stupid black eyes peas and their glow people!
Seriously, there's a reason these competitions are for TEENS! Only youth can pull that off!
Amazing and yes, my legs hurt now.
Wow, I'm really impressed that these are high school students. What a fine job!!!
Phyl
Wow, super cool! Real dancing instead of that porno-crap so many college bands seem to think is dancing...
WOW!
I guess people will compete anything...Maybe I should start training the goats.
Wow...you're right- my hip flexers are aching watching them- geez! They've got everything these days!
I would have LOVED to have done that when I was in high school...On My Word...YES!!
But, it does make my legs hurt just.a.bit to watch them! :)
oh to be that young and flexible again :) Very cool and I know that I would seriously hurt myself trying to do that
Wow, that was really impressive. I love the girl's green costumes. Did they make them themselves?
Not my cuppatea, but interesting.
Synchronized dancing ALWAYS reminds me of those old Esther Williams movies. ALWAYS. Not sure why. lol.
Those girls can kick high and fast! Very impressive!
Mary Ann--You wouldn't believe the amount of girls who do this! I mean, that team alone had 40 girls. It is something to see.
Violet--I don't think my legs ever worked like that! I'm secretly jealous.
Catherine--Notice there isn't a chubby one amongst them. Imagine the calories they burn!
peewee--No kidding! I wonder how many of them have hip problems later in life. hee! hee!
Betty--I wonder how they do that for a full song! I'd drop over dead.
Phyl--We missed this Saturday, but if Em does dance again next year, we are SO going to watch Kick Team.
Grace--Oh, this is very regimented, very clean and appropriate, Grace. Everything from poms to Kick to hip-hop is clean, believe it or not. College may be another story.
Merry--Sigh. To be able to do that, eh?
Pricilla--Hahaha! They have the jumping down, now they have to just learn the kicks. ;)
Nancy--When did they start this?? We used to just dance around with poms at football and basketball games back in the day. Who decided to compete???
A.Marie--I don't know if I could have done this in high school, but I'm with you--I'll bet it is a BLAST!
Ann--I don't think I was EVER that flexible. These dance teams are very impressive to watch. I never knew this all existed before.
Anne--Those are our "professional" costumes which cost some bucks. I thought they were cute too, but there are some incredible costumes all over at these contests. Made ours look cheap in comparison.
Sharky--You just have to appreciate what they are doing and how much they must train. It is really something to see.
Rebecca--It just reminded me of the Rockettes. I had no idea girls did this for fun!
Beaded Tail--Aren't they something?! I cannot imagine the energy they must have to do this for an entire song! I'm tired just watching them!
Damn, those legs are moving fast. I can't even kick my leg that high ONCE when I'm dancing by myself, let alone keep up with a group of high kickers. I'm impressed.
AMAZING!! WOW!!! Love the green costumes.
Thanks to you, I was singing the Ali Baba song all day yesterday and totally drove the boys crazy! They kept begging me to stop. Funny, they used to love hearing me sing that song when they were little!
What a fun video! I could handle the kicking part (although at a much slower pace) but that jumping in the air with the legs out to your sides and touching the toes is beyond me!
Casey--Isn't that cool?? Uh, can you start Eliot on this now so we can go see her perform when she is older? I'm thinking this would be really cool to be a part of and we could live vicariously through her.
Veronica--I hope you were singing extra-obnoxious. :) That's how I sing to drive the kids crazy. (And it's more fun that way) Sheesh, kids. They don't get it.
Karen--What gets me is how LONG that performance is--those girls have got to be exhausted!
