When I say "little dog", what I actually mean is it's a person who yaps at my heals and barks incessantly to annoy me. I have been dealing with this person for a few years now, and until this person retires next year, I'm stuck with his little dog ways.
This little dog is in a position of authority at Em's school and I have had more than my share of run-ins with this dude. And while it would be easy to walk away and just roll my eyes, I cannot. Nope. I gotta stand up to the little dog and ignore his yapping and barking which is meant to scare me away while he pisses on my leg.
I cannot stand inept people in the workplace, and I really cannot stand it in our schools. For what we pay teachers and administrators, there has got to be a way to get rid of poorly performing teachers, which can been monumentally impossible if they have tenure. Tell me what other job is there that has job security like that?
Ugh. Don't get me started.
Okay, so I'm breathing deep and going to higher-ups again about my dog friend. I am weary from the battle, but I can't just ignore the issue. All his huffing and puffing ain't scaring me away--sorry. And all that ankle biting and snarling isn't going to cover the fact that he is just a lame little dog who can't do anything much more than bark.
Wish me luck. I've never felt like kicking an animal so much in my life.

Wow sounds like my boss. I love it when he does that to me then turns to the others and talks to them oh so nicely.
Have a good weekend.
I agree about the bad teachers! Even though we don't uses the school system something just chaps my hide about a person who supposedly dedicates their life to the teaching of children and then becomes lazy and inept and often just plain hateful! My tax dollars pay their salary and I want them gone!
It's hard when there are teachers in schools who don't seem to like their job anymore. It always filters down to the kids.
Good luck Lin!
xo Catherine
Cute picture.
Go open up a can of doberman whoop ass on that guy! We have a teacher that we don't like who is in charge of a very program very near to our hearts who is just a complete dumbass and he's about to get tenure. WHY O WHY???? Yup...my son is a senior and on his way out, but I've got 2 more to follow. UGH! We had a meeting with him a few months ago with a dean because he had been picking on my son (which miraculously STOPPED after the meeting) and when realized that a can of whoop ass wasn't going to fly (dean cut me off) I made him putty in my hands. My son had to text his friends afterward about the 'most brilliant act of manipulation that he had EVER seen.' LOL!!! Now his guy thinks he's going to 'help' my son get into the major local college marching band next year.
You Go, girl!
Change can't happen unless we make it happen so I'm proud of you for standing up to him! Hope others rally behind you to help too!
Tenure is one of the worst systems in the world. Don't get me started. If, as so many teachers claim - you are so good at your joy - why do you need this system?
Duke wants you to know that despite your comparison to little dogs he admires your stand against this guy.
I'm quite happy that my kids are no longer in school because we had far too many people like that in the school they went to.
Go get em Lin
Sounds like someone I'm dealing with. My boss at the job. I wish I could kick her! :)Hang in there.
Helene--Ugh, that is frustrating, I'm sure. Don't let him see that it bothers you, pally. What a jerk.
Melodie--This guys is an administrator who accepts apathy and below par performance from those under him. There were 18 girls with no adult supervision last night and he didn't think there was a problem. Ugh. Yeah, that bothers me that my tax dollars are paying his six figure salary and he's gonna retire with a hefty pension. Things have to change.
Catherine--This dude is an administrator who is coasting on every level. And when I point it out, he belittles me, hoping I'll go away. I think we pay them too much money.
Vanilla--That's fence-sittin', pally. There is nothing better than a great teacher, and nothing worse than a bad one. We just need options, that's all I'm sayin'.
Diana--See my above comment. I can tell you great tales of good teachers though too.....
Grace--I'm puttin' on my cape....again. Sigh.
Beaded Tail--Nope. My mom always said to be prepared to stand alone, so I do. Joe at least chimed in on this one though, so there were two of us....
Pricilla--Tenure and pensions need to end or be radically changed. It isn't working for the benefit of the kids.
Ann--But Duke, YOU are a fabulous little dog! It is those that are poorly trained and misbehave that I don't like. It's bad owners--those who let the little dogs misbehave that are to blame.
Chocolate--Oh no! Not on your new job!!! Bummer. Women bosses can sometimes be really tough to deal with. Hang in there, pally.
Fence sitting? Just a comment on the picture. Truth: I wrote a rather long statement of agreement with your position and encouragement as you do battle with incompetence in the schools. But I perceived that you really don't need anyone to say "sic 'em" for you, so I just went with the brief commentary on the photo.
I sincerely hope your higher ups deal with issues better than my former employers. More than twice I went to the higher ups because a co-worker did things unconscionable in the workplace. The first thing was screaming at me in a threatening manner and calling me the "b" word in the office...at the top of her lungs. (Yes, the real "b" word.) In the end, we both got written up. Why I got written up I have no idea, I did nothing to incite the rant. All I can figure is she has friends in high places there. The other was for miming a highly workplace inappropriate sexual act. I'm a lesbian, I don't want to see that shyt! And besides, agents saw it and clients could have seen it. What happened? Absolutely nothing! So I just did my time in the office, never spoke to that childish woman unless absolutely necessary, and when necessary, made sure there were witnesses. I hate being unemployed, but I could never work for that particular office if she was there, even if they begged me to return.
Hold strong, Lin. There is nothing worse that faculty bullies. They are in a position to hurt your children (mental abuse) and parent intervention just gets the nasty little suckers nipping and snarling.
Fight the good fight, you have my support all the way!
Vanilla--Oops.I'm sorry, my friend. Knowing you come from an education background, I was hoping I didn't hit a nerve and that is why you commented on the photo. There are good and bad in every field, I just don't get the safety net in this one in particular. You are right--I've already taken action by the time the post was written. I guess you know me better than that!!
Lola--We've got a good higher-up, he just needs the ability to get rid of some of the dead weight. What a cruddy job that was! Yikes.
Highway--This guy just accepts less than par from those who report to him. It's tiresome to have to report to him and have him make ME the problem. Yeah/no. I'm just asking for accountability.
I don't like little dogs (but, shhhh, you didn't hear that from the dog person)
I agree - I really wish there was a way to get rid of the useless teachers. I wouldn't be so anti-public schools then.
Well, just one year left…hang in there!
Luck, luck lots of luck. oh and hugs too!
I hear you, when Ginger was young and spunky she was quite a terror.
Fortunately shes mellowed, I'm sure it's her blanky :)
I don't even deal with public schools anymore, but I feel your pain. I remember being a student and having a couple of dogs around....
Oh well. Hang in there! I have a feeling you can be most formidable when someone gets your dander up.
Being in education I am afraid to say what I really want to for fear...just know my thoughts aren't far off from yours.
Wow...I missed a lot over the weekend!
As a former teacher I do applaud your efforts. I always strived to improve and be at the top of my game everyday all day for my little guys. It always got on my last nerve to see someone preform under par. I think I can speak for most of us when I say the job security is nice, but it doesn't feel like you have to earn it which is unrealistic and just encourages those that are bad to be lazy. Sigh....
Good for you Lin!
Sharky--I just don't like the barky ones.
Storm--For every lousy teacher, I think I've had 10 great ones. I guess I should take the time to post about those who have changed our lives for the better. I still like our public school, Storm.
Penelope--I will personally see that man out the door. Ugh.
Katherine--Thanks, pally. I can hold my own against him, but I sure get tired of it.
Tracy--Hee! Hee! I still have my photo of Ginger on her blankie--and I like to look at it periodically. It makes me smile.
Rebecca--There are little dogs in EVERY field. It's just this one at the school that got to me this week. I'm tired of pointing out to him what a crappy job he does.
Jodi--I know. I have lots of friends that I have offended over this issue, especially when I get outspoken over it.
Nancy--I have enough family members in education to know what is right and what is wrong. This guy is accepting pathetic behavior and wants me to just go away. Ain't gonna happen on my watch. That said, I'm tired of telling him what a crummy job he does.
Actually, I think if the world was set up to pay teachers more then you wouldn't have such yappy dogs infiltrating and interfering. The people who could be really great at it sometimes just can't afford to do it. I do agree that tenure is abused. My mother had an all out war with a teacher of mine who was mailing it in every day until she could retire. Ms. March. *shudder* And wouldn't you know, her pride and joy were her 2 little yippy dogs?
