I Love Hobbes Thursday - Better!

Okay, so this getting sick every February is kinda getting old with me. Silly cat.

Hobbes is feeling much better after his bought with his vaccines. And while we all knew he was the sensitive type, nobody quite knew to what extent. I guess he can't have his feline leukemia shot anymore--Hobbes' butt doesn't like it very much. Sheesh.

Thanks, everybody for caring so darn much.....again. I'm beginning to think he likes to stir up drama just so everyone tells him how much they love him.

The good news in all of this is that I really like the new vet clinic we went to. The doctors and staff were so kind to him and didn't push a lot of meds or anything dramatic. There were lots of smoochies and "awwww, poor kitty"'s, which made us both feel better. And it was a nice twist to have the doctor calling here yesterday to find out how he was doing. I guess we made a good decision to switch after all.

And if you ever wonder what Grace is like when Hobbes is sick--she is wacky. Girlfriend all but dances around the house, snuggling up to mom at every opportunity, and playing "I'm the favorite" until it is downright obnoxious. If I didn't know better, I'd say she had something to do with all of this. I swear she has plans to "off" him.

Okay, enough sick--we are moving on to adventures.....

Hobbes looks like his normal stripy self. I really appreciate a vet office that does not push a lot of expensive tests and treatments. Really, don't upsale me when I am worried about my kitty.

Hooray for Hobbes feeling better and looking so darn cute sitting in the kitchen sink!!!

And Hooray for Grace getting to be the favorite for a day or two! :)

(I know... just like if you have more than one child... you love them all equally!!!)

Hooray, I am so glad Hobbes is all better! It is great to find a vet you like and trust.

You need a bigger sink.

Hobbes doesn't need to stir up drama for us to tell him how much we love him. We love you Hobbes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Highway--Yeah, they were cool and didn't charge me for the emergency visit. Doctors--for humans or pets--are expensive. Ugh.

Catherine--We had to get a bigger sink for him, Catherine! He's a moose. I can always tell when Hobbes is sick by how happy Grace is. She is not very nice.

Daisy--Thanks, Daisy! Our new vet is very nice and she has a whole team of vets to step in if we need them. I like that part.

Helene--Don't encourage him, Helene. There is too much drama with that guy.

Happy Thursday, Lin!

Yay for Hobbes feeling better!

I am so glad you like your new vet. We went to a vet (once) who told me my cat had a heart murmur. When I said it had been discussed with my previous vet and determined that he actually just got really nervous at the vet, he told me that my cat would die if I didn't get this expensive test. I later found out the vet had huge gambling debts so really needed the money but it was still offensive (as an aside, we didn't get the test and the cat didn't die).

I am so glad to hear that Hobbes is on the mend and starting to feel like his old self! He is one much loved kitty.

Yay, so glad to hear he's better! I suppose sometimes it takes an incident like that to lead you to the right drs. I read somewhere that women are more likely to stick with a Dr. even thought they don't like them than to leave. It's true for me...so annoying to find one in the first place! Glad you got a great one!

Come on, give Grace the benefit of the doubt. She is just trying to comfort you in your time of need. Who am I kidding, she would totally put some rat poisoning in Hobbes' kibble if she had the ability to open the kitty proof cat.

Years ago, my college bf and I had a black lab who was on her deathbed. I'm talking bleeding out of her nose, wouldn't lay down and the doctor totally convinced us to put her down but something just didn't feel right. I took her to a different vet for a second opinion and they were all "she's got a collapsed lung, leave her overnight and she can come home tomorrow." We almost killed our dog cause of some fucktard vet who seriously couldn't tell what organs were what when he was showing me the overpriced xrays. The second vet looked at the same xray and instantly diagnosed her. Phew.

I guess what I'm getting at is YAY for your new vet!

Good to hear Hobbes is better! Yahoo!

Is it all his vaccines, 'cause they do have the 3 year rabies shot...Frankie Lulu Belle used to be very jealous of the other cats but she is better now - mostly because she has become an uber people cat and the boys don't care, well except for BB, the orange boy who is very needy but not jealous...

Practical vets are a treasure - when ours suggested prescription cat food for Frankie they did themselves out of a big chunk of money they would have gotten treating the crystals in her bladder. A few extra bucks for cat food saves us thousands in vet care.

Having sick pets is like having a sick baby - they can't tell you how they feel...

So glad he's feeling better. Many cats react to multiple vaccines at once, some of mine too. I've stopped giving most of them since they never go out. As long as Hobbes doesn't fight with any strays he should be ok without the Felv vaccine. Tell him he must mind his P's & Q's when he's out and about :)

Aww, poor Hobbers. I'm glad he's feeling better though. Cute picture. He has such a sweet face.

So glad you've found a good vet. We're looking for one for Colby. Not sure where we'll take him...ah, the fun of cat-parenthood!

Hope all is well or at least getting that way!

Yay for Hobbes feeling better! It's so wonderful having a caring vet and staff and does make all the difference. Give Hobbes a kiss on that adorable pink nose from the BeadedTail girls!

Veronica--Me too! He couldn't even walk! It was very scary.

Anne--I know just as many human doctors who pull the same garbage. The only way they make money is with tests. Ugh. I'm glad the kitty was okay!

Hot Rocks--Yeah, he's swiping at Grace today, so I guess that means he's back to normal. Whew! He couldn't even walk the other night--SCARY.

Nancy--This vet isn't cheap, but I like it so far. I did feel guilty about leaving the other practice, but I had to keep remembering how unhappy I was with their care over the last few years. It's hard to do--I can see why people don't switch.

Casey--OMG! That is a crazy story about the dog! I'm so glad you looked into it more. Last year, our old vet told me Hobbes had FIP, which is fatal. She told me that he would be dead in a week or two--and that was with no diagnostic testing! Ugh. I made up my mind then that we needed to move on.

Chuck--He's back outside looking for fun, Chuck.

Betty--Yeah, we are happy, but Grace is not. He's back to taking swipes at her!

Grace--He got the 3 year one, thank goodness! Now I don't have to deal with this for a few more years. They think he will have to split up his vaccines now, just to be safe. Having a sick kitty is just as awful as having a sick kid. Oh, the worry!

DJ--That's what the vet said--that he'll have to spread out his vaccines next time. While our kitty stays pretty close, I can't say who he will run into in the yard, so we decided on the Felv. I'm not sure what we'll do next year.

June Zach--Yeah, it was quite a scare! We are all very relieved that he is better now. And he's back to sitting in the sink.

Pricilla--Oh boy! Are you doing that little hoppy dance?? I like that. :)

Jen--I asked around to find this vet. Everyone liked them but said they were expensive. Well, I've had the cheap vet and that didn't work--she didn't have any equipment and I was always sent to specialists when something was wrong. Talk about $$$! Yikes. Start looking for a good vet now, while he is healthy.

Beaded Tail--They were great! And he's back to his 'ole rotten self. He just took a swipe at Grace--poor thing. I think she likes him better when he is sick. Hahaha!

Ann said...

Grace sure knows how to take advantage of a situation doesn't she :)
Tell Hobbes I love him even if he doesn't stir up drama

Rebecca said...

Holy cow I can't believe he fill sup the kitchen sink. What do you DO when you have to take him to the vet, get a crane and lift him out? LOL

Lin said...

Ann--I think he's acting out because the vet mentioned the "D" word--diet. Needless to say, until he feels better, we couldn't limit the food. I think that was the plan.

Rebecca--Hahaha! Yes. Yes he does. :) It is a smaller sink though--he isn't really THAT big! I can hardly lift him in his cat carrier when we go to the vet.

I'm so behind and on emails too. I am going to answer you email too but Ginger can't get one of the shots and I cant remember which one tweaks her... but it makes her pretty sick. I think she even does best if we give her benedryl before a few of the ones that dont make her that sick and give them not all at once... but how many times can we take her because she gets upset?

Wish I could remember which one it is???? Think its one of the ones you have to give to board her which we dont so its a non-issue...

But I am glad he's better. Its so awful when these guys are sick. breaks your heart
