February Frogs

I love Chicago weather. Two weeks ago we had 20.5 inches of snow fall upon us. Today it was 60 degrees and all of those 20.5 inches are all but gone, leaving us puddles and mud in its place.

Whenever the pond thaws in winter, I run out to find the frogs popping up for fresh air. I'm not sure how they know they can come up, but they do, and I like knowing they are alive and well in those murky waters. It's good to know that they are surviving under that thick snow and ice that sometimes covers them.

Gone are the opossum tracks in the snow and our lovely world of white. Found is the Christmas tree in the yard and mucky brown grass.

Well....until Monday........when it is supposed to snow again.

I hear everyword you are saying!

On this side of the river I hear birds chirping me awake. I see kids on the playground wearing shorts (and even one goof wearing flip flops) and the giant gold fish in the school pond came out from the cave to feel the sunshine from the mid-seventy temps. Windows opened for fresh air to clear out the stale air. Aaaaaahhhh a Mother Nature's tease.

I am now preparing my ward of snow in Chicago dance!!!!!!

Happy Friday pallie.

We don't get your snow until Tuesday - but the predicted temp for Tuesday is 50 and Wednesday 39 - so just your basic weather non-event...(Famous last words!)

Quick, what's the frog count!?!?! More snow though? Really? We still haven't gotten any worth mentioning AND it's been so warm lately. That's actually OK with me though...I'm so tired of the cold. Ready for spring!

So glad your frogs made it! We even had a little snow here this morning at the same time the neighbor's lawn service was mowing their grass. Gotta love the NW winters!

at least you have until Monday, we're expecting snow again tomorrow. At least the huge pile at the end of my driveway has melted and I can finally see what's coming down the road when I'm trying to back out

I dunno if it's just me but is the weather fricking weird this year or what? We've had temps down in the teens and in the 70's by the weekend, it just can't make up it's mind.

I'm surprised your frogs don't freeze. We finally had warmer weather here in Cleveland too that melted our snow. It's supposed to get cold again though. Today started at 58 and dropped as the day progressed. Too bad.

I am not sure how you do it! It is finally raining here (just for a few days) and I know I am going to go crazy indoors!

So glad your frogs are still hanging in until spring. It must be heart warming to see them come up for air. Frogs are amazing creatures!

After our thaw of the past few days we are not getting snow again. Horray- winter can't be over in Feb.
