Em Saves the Day

Well, sorta.

When we first ventured out into the big snow that we got a few weeks ago, we looked around the corner of the garage only to see a big fatty hawk sitting on our fence, ready to pounce on the birds who visit our feeder. And while I'm all about "Rule of the Jungle" and "Survival of the Fittest" and all that, I was miffed that homeboy had nerve to camp out so close to the feeder.

And when we made all sorts of racket to scare him off, he didn't budge. He had some nerve, that guy.

So, we sent Emma to get him.

The plan was for her to make a move towards the hawk to scare him off and save the world. But we didn't plan on how freaking deep the snow was--or how ungraceful Em is:

I nearly peed my pants as my kid fell face first into the snow.

I'm thinking that hawk came to our house for the entertainment value. Sorta like dinner theater, eh?

Oopsie! Walking in snow must be a lot harder than it looks!

And whose evil laugh was that?

Catherine said...

LOL ~ well I think it would be hard to be graceful running through all that snow ~ but at least she saved the birds! :)

Happy Monday Lin!

Daisy--Apparently for Em! She made me laugh hard, Daisy. I wonder what that hawk thought of us?

Grace--How obnoxious was my reaction?? Gees.

Catherine--It was hilarious! She was so set on going to get that guy and then she fell flat on her face. I nearly died laughing. We are idiots.

It was the cackling in the background that scared the hawk...Em was just the side course. ;-)

I am thinking that it was more of your LOUD outburst at your daughter's expense that scared the hawk...which was caused by Em...so she sort of saves the day. I hope you are saving for her therapy! LOL!

Mean mean mama. Someone oughta write a song . . . At least Em's got the gumption to take on the project. Out here in the country, we have plenty of hawks. I watched one divebomb the smaller birds at the feeder once. Poor hawk was totally frustrated. He continued to watch from a distance, and eventually flew away.

Too funny! I almost peed myself this morning when my daughter left to catch the school bus. She opened the front door, stepped out, and promptly fell on her ass. I'm guessing the porch was icy? LMAO! Wish I would have thought to grab my shiny new camera phone and snap a pic...you know, to share with fellow bloggers. Cuz I'm all about sharin'. Lol!

Dern it. The video won't load for me. But I have a feeling it's hilarious...

Dinner theatre...*snort*!

Brave Emma!!! Those hawks are hard to scare away--I'm glad it didn't turn on her. They go after doves in my yard--slower birds and fatter dinner for the hawks. I know they have to eat too, but you're lucky to such a birdie protector. Go Em!!!!

Lin,
That was really funny! I love the laugh :) Yeah, the best thing about having kids is making them do all the dirty work!!!
I love it! (did he come back?)

Want a chicken or two to divert the hawk from your feeder?

When we lived in Jersey we would have one migrate through every spring and fall. he would hit my feeders for the mourning doves. They were fat and slow. Always found a big pile of feathers....

Hawk's gotta eat...

OMG, the laugh was the best part, that plus the supportive Dad response.

OMG...poor Em. I hope she didn't hurt herself because it sounded like she fell hard even though it was snow....eeek.

Now I know why I like you so much. It's because I would have laughed just as much as you did if my daughter had fallen face first into the snow. LOVED IT
God bless supportive caring mothers :)

Lin how ya been?---

That was pretty funny. I always found snow unstable. That's why I prefer to walk the beaches of So Florida:>)

Take care and be careful when the melt starts.

That hawk is going to bring his friends back now for the encore! LOL

The hawk in that pictures looks like one of those humongous rabbits that get to be 20 lbs. and have feet the size of submarine sandwiches.

That's crazy.

I don't think that hawk wasn't looking for birds at your feeder. I think he was sitting there waiting for Hobbes to come out on Thursday. Better take a peek before you let our favorite orange stripey friend go out for a romp in the snow.

Poor kid busts her butt and you put it on the internet for all to see. Nicely played, I woulda done the same.

The hawks swarm around here too and I'm finally not freaked out now that the kids are too heavy to be carried away.

Great comic value! I couldn't resist but to watch.

Jodi--That bird was laughing at her too--you just can't hear it over my laugh.

Diana--We are great parents, aren't we??

Chuck--Like how we send Emma to do the dirty work?? Do we get points for good parenthood??? ;)

Lola--Hahaha! I would have laughed at that too. I'm glad you and I parent alike, pally.

Nancy--That's what I like about kids--they give me something to laugh about! ;)

Jen--Oh no! Go to Youtube and look up "Em saves the day". Well, IF you really want to see it.

June Zach--I'm not sure what is worse--Em falling or me laughing at her. :P

Tracy--I was DYING--as you can plainly hear. Mom of The Year Award is mine, baby!

Betty--Do you like how we sacrifice our kid for the birds???!

G'ma Phyl--I think we made so much noise we scared him off. He probably never saw such goofy humans!

Tracy--Oh, he never looked back! I think he had enough of us. ;)

Pricilla--We get hawks and falcons all the time, but I guess they have to eat too, right? And as long as they eat the whole thing--I guess I don't mind. It was just fun to send Em over there to save us all.

Highway--Yeah, aren't we the BEST parents ever?? Nice.

Rebecca--No kidding! That laugh is sooooo darn obnoxious. Then I record it AND post it on Youtube. Mother of the Year right here.

Mary Ann--No, she was fine. The snow was so deep, she couldn't have gotten hurt. She was laughing too, so don't feel too bad for her. She is a good sport as you can see.

Ann--I'm just ringing up those Mother of the Year points, eh?! :) I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in cracking up over what my kids do. Thanks for the support.

Violet--It was sooo funny! As you can tell by the uber-obnoxious laugh.

Don--Hi, pally! Are you back to blogging?? I hope so. I'm not sure it was the snow or Em couldn't walk in all those clothes and boots. Either way, we had a great laugh at her expense. Poor kid.

Sharky--I think he left in pure disgust.

Beaded Tail--No kidding! Or he's NEVER coming back to our wacky yard. ;)

CG--Oh, he was HUGE! And hard to scare off.

Ozark Mtn Cats--We actually had an owl a few years ago that I was afraid of. I really thought he may carry off one of the cats, but he only came around at night when they were inside. It is weird how many coyotes, owls, hawks, and deer we get for living in surburbia.

Casey--You know, I'm just keeping it real for my kids. Never let them get a big head. :p That said, we sure know how to laugh around here.

Ratty--I hope you had a good chuckle at Em's expense like we did. :p

Petula said...

You are so funny... you could have pretended the "are you okay" movement then laughed. LOL... And why were you so far away from him? Nervous, eh? LOL

Lin said...

Petula--We received 20 + inches of snow that day and that was our first venture out. The drifts in front of us were literally 3 feet high in places, so getting any closer to him was all but impossible. I ain't scared of no hawk!!!
