Friday was downtown with Colin and the Art Institute. Saturday was house cleaning (Yea!), laundry, and a Wii Family Challenge with our friends, Wendy and her family. I love when we can squeak some fun into the weekend instead of always working. Add in some good food, a couple cocktails, and some belly laughs--it makes the work-week bearable.
And while there was a lot of smack-talking by Wen's family, we did manage to show them who's boss on family game night. Okay, so we had home field advantage and it was our game, but still--we have bragging rights, don't we? They are already calling for a re-match. Losers.
I love when we have company and the cats skeedaddle, but they didn't this time. They hung out with us and Hobbes even demanded that they play Stick with him. Stick sucks, just ask Joe--but Wen's son didn't mind, he played with Hobbes until he passed out from exhaustion--Hobbes, I mean, not Wen's son. Then he bailed when we all started yelling and cheering for the Wii competition.
Sunday's highlight (after ironing) was Mom and Kitty time watching "Elsa--the real story behind 'Born Free'". I'm not sure if that was the real name, but it was a PBS show on the story of Elsa the lion and the two humans who raised her, Joy and George Adamson.
I turned on the fireplace and the TV, gathered the two kitties and actually sat down to watch this with them. How ironic it was to see George killing zebras for his lion as my Orange Stripey lay toasting his belly by the fire. Lions have come a long way since the 1960's, apparently. Look at mine--warm fire, plenty of food, and a comfy basket to relax in. Sheesh. I looked over and told Hobbes I was officially changing his name to "Elsa" and he didn't seem to care, so if I remember, I'm gonna call him that tomorrow.
I hope Grace doesn't get jealous.
We are off to start the week. Ugh. Is there nothing worse than Monday? A damn cold Monday? A Monday with a chance of snow? I don't think so.
Well, maybe being a lion who doesn't live with me. That might be worse.

Our favorite time of the day is TV time, because that means lap time! My Mommeh remembers watching all of those Born Free movies when she was a kid. That was a loooooong time ago.
Sounds like you had a nice weekend. We had a quiet one at home. Its really cold and snowy out...so best inside by the fire like you and Hobbes.
Yep Monday and that weather report got to me too.
I wanna move by your house. At least on the weekends.
it sounds like a great weekend.... i am soooo with you that monday SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! here in nj.. we are expecting a blizzard tues night... ick...hugs
I skidaddled the family and hunkered down to PBS for a showing of Masterpiece Theater's Dawnton Abbey. Now I am tryingto drag myself to work on this cold, cold Monday waiting for the snow to start while starting my snow day dance--RIGHT NOW!
Silly me, is banking life on a Tuesday off work via Mother Nature.
The four Farm cats pretty much have the life. Although the publicist doesn't go around killing zebras for them....
We watched that movie about Born Free, or whatever it was called. I think we found it on Netflix. Caleb enjoyed it for sure as he's such an animal lover!
I couldn't agree more with you about Mondays, and this Monday in particular. I woke up to about a foot of snow and -3 F temperatures. And I didn't have a good weekend, or previous week, not even highlighted by something as interesting as ironing.
My big cat always sits in my lap when we are sitting around watching TV. He just expects everyone to pet him while he is sitting.
I sure like the sounds of your cozy Sunday! No wonder you're none too thrilled it's Monday now.
Santa brought my granddaughter a Wii. I hate to admit it but she beat me at golf and bowling. It was fun but the shame of being beat by a 6 year-old sucks.:)
Hey...we got 7 inches of snow last night and I had a Snow day...may have another one tomorrow. Yea...I think.
Yea, you're cats are quite spoiled. But, who'd have it any other way! I actually wish I was a cat living in your house too....
sounds like a fun filled weekend. I agree about Mondays especially snowy Mondays
Sounds like a fun weekend. But I would expect nothing less from you!
Time with family and friends and kitties. Can't get much better than that! Well, except for having to follow it with Monday. I haven't seen that show but it sounds like something that would make me bawl. Anything with animals and I'm a wuss. *sigh*
How come that Monday always gets here so fast? And now Friday seems sooooo faaaaaaarrrrr awaaaaaayyyy!
:(
But your picture of your kitties make me happy!
:)

Daisy--It was a long time ago and I forgot how it all ended. It was a very sad documentary and the humans did all the killing. Sad. :( Grace was crying.
Hot Rocks--It was a relaxing weekend for a change. I like those.
Helene--Come on over, Helene. But you can't have the basket by the fire--it is taken.
natalee--It's that darn alarm in the wee hours that is so painful. Ugh. And yes, we are in for snow too. :(
Jodi--I hope you get your snow day, Jodi. Got my fingers crossed for you!
Pricilla--I do "kill" cans of cat food for mine. That's about as far as I will go.
Sherri--This one was really, really sad, so I hope it wasn't the same one you saw. Even Joe was saying it was a bummer.
MikeWJ--Bummer, MikeWJ! Maybe you need to increase your laundry and ironing load to ensure weekend fun. I can send you some if you are lacking.
Anne--I love when they sit on me while I watch TV. Except for Hobbes--he's too heavy!
Violet--I hate for it to end. :(
Jean--Wii Party is the BEST! There are tons of games that even you can win at. Go get it challenge her!
Nancy--Would you like your very own basket Nancy Cat? ;)
Ann--Tomorrow is worse--we have to drive IN the snow to work. Kinda makes me want to turn around and to home.
Sharky--I like winter weekends when we can all hang out and laugh together. I guess the snow brings us all together. :)
Beaded Tail--Oh, that show was so darn SAD! It was tragic on a human level too, which was sad. A lot of killing by humans--too much so, in fact. Not Elsa though--she died of tick fever. :(
Catherine--Why do the weekends fly by when the work week just drags so?? We have to change that.
I LOVE imagining Hobbes as a lion.
And can I just say how much I LOVE This blog??? It's like a source of comfort at the end of my day. I know I know. YUCK! Put that sentimental away OLD LADY!
xoxo
Peewee--Awwww, shucks, peewee. That makes me feel good. :) Thanks for the compliment.
Laundry on Saturday, eh? I am so proud to announce that I churned through four loads yesterday and now the pile in the basement is actually manageable.
Why? Because I sing, "CG fold it up, up, up, up. CG fold it up, up, up, up."
Hobbes *is* a little lion. He just wears his mane in a perpetual buzz cut.
