Going out, whether to the store or to work requires bundling up like Nanook of the North. Hats, scarves, gloves and boots aren't fashion accessories--they are necessary survival gear in these parts. And unlike the south that gets to shut down for snow and ice--we have to gear up and endure.....like eskimos.
Hobbes has succumbed to the wintery wind whispering through the kitty door, warning him of the blustery world that awaits just beyond the screening. He peeks at the cold outdoors, deciding whether or not he dares to greet it face on, but alas, he chickens out. Anything below zero is just too cold for my orange stripey and he retreats to his basket. Snow is one thing, but cold is intolerable.
And honestly, I'm with him on that one.
Look what I found at the Art Institute a few weeks ago:

Well, they say discretion is the better part of valor. Hobbes has a lot of discretion when it comes to snow!
I haven't read it myself but I am certain I heard somewhere that Adam and Eve had an orange stripey..... Hurry up spring!
Winter, bleh! It can go F itself!
I like winter because of the snow, but hate it because of the cold. Right now, we seem to be getting lots of both :-p
Wow, that ancient stripey is pretty neat! Did the museum say how old it was?
It's his long lost relative!
cold is intolerable.
And honestly, I'm with him on that one.
Smart cat. Smart Lin. What is with these people who "love" the cold?
Nice art.
I'm with Hobbes ~ it's best to stay inside the house and keep warm on these cold winter days!
xo Catherine
I can relate to that. It's nice to get out -- for a little while.
(Verif word = grand)
I don't blame Hobbes one bit. I wish I had a pretty coat like his.
We all loved the sun yesterday but now it's back to Montana winter as usual. It was like the sun was teasing us. Reminding us of what it could be like. Now we won't see it again for another month. Ugh.
457am the phone rang and I was told to keep my Nanook gear in the closest and keep on a sleepin'. Wait, Nanook gear coming out-- someone has to shovel these 8 inches of snow. Last allotted snow day and the snow keeps a fallin'.
Love the ancient orange stripy but hey I resemble that remark about the south.
I would feel rebuked except for the fact that it is true.
Oh, Ode to Hobbes in art- I love it! Poor little buddy, I feel his pain. I too am just aching to get out but the cold, oh the cold! I'm sure it's much colder there than here, I'm afraid I just wouldn't survive there.
I'm with Hobbes too - brrr! I'd rather be by the fire.
I wish I had a basket to retreat to instead of going out in the cold. It just makes you feel miserable. We're expecting a very cold weekend here starting tomorrow with yet more snow. Good weekend for hibernation. I think I'll see if I can find a basket big enough to fit in to...lol
Hahah it would seem Hobbes was once a god!
Cool sculpture! Hobbes doesn't seem to mind the snow that much. Our Pumpkin loves it and begs to go out constantly.
A time-traveling sculptor? Or was it Hobbes? How did they get such a great statue of him?
I think I like the living breathing soft and cuddly kind better - great photo!
I'm shocked Hobbs is even out in the snow at all. Even Canadian cats don't do that! :)
And Hobbs is a terrific name!
Daisy--Yeah, but his tummy is paying the price. :(
Melodie--Oh, I think I heard that too! Here's the order: Adam, Eve, Orange Stripey. :)
Diana--No kidding. We have a long way to go yet. Sigh.
Rebecca--Not a lot of snow, but dang, is it COLD! I'm not sure how old the kitty is.
violet--It's the original Orange!
Vanilla--Who loves the cold??! Nuts, I tell you. Nuts.
Catherine--Oh, but he wants to go out there so badly. He is very sad.
Chuck--I try to take him out for a few minutes, but it is just too cold for kitties. Even Hobbes.
Betty--He's got a big layer of padding under that fur. :(
Pricilla--We had some sun too. I like how it lifts your spirit. I hope it comes back again soon.
Jodi--I can't believe you got a snow day! I'm jealous. Two words, Jodi--Snow blower. :)
Highway--Oh, there are lots of places that just not prepared for cold and snow. I wish we weren't.
Nancy--It's not nice or fun, Nancy. Poor Hobbes is going stir crazy!
Storm--He just sat on the kitchen table and stared at the outside today. I felt really bad for him.
Ann--Oh, if only I could fit in that basket too!
Ben--Was???! Isn't he still? ;)
Jennifer--Hobbes does too, although he likes it better if someone goes with him. Ugh.
Sharky--And they captured his grin! ;)
Grace--Nothing like seeing orange stripeys at the Art Institute!
Hobbes needs a sweater! LOL It looks cold there!
