I Love Hobbes Thursday - Bored!

Ugh. It's that time of year when we all have cabin fever. The cats are absolutely bored to tears as going outside isn't really an option. Oh, Hobbes will go out alright, but it is short-lived when he realizes how freaking cold it is. Snow is one thing, cold is another.

While laying by the fire is cozy, Hobbes is still looking for a bit of fun. Grace doesn't think fun is all that necessary anymore as her old bones are telling her laying by the fire is enough entertainment. So, as those two lifestyles collide, so do the kitties. It's madness around here, with spontaneous cat fights breaking out at every opportunity.

Oh, there is hissing. There is spitting. There are swats and showdowns. There are endless chases tearing through our tiny abode--which is lovingly referred to as "Horses in the House". Anyone who lives with a cat knows why we call it that. The otherwise stealth feline, will suddenly thunder through the house clomping away like he's 800 pounds. I haven't figured out why it is so much fun to run like that, but they do apparently enjoy it so.

There are no winners and there are no losers. It is just one giant battle that lasts from January straight through to April--when outside is a tad more palatable again.

And there is no use yelling or telling them "no". You just cling to your chair and hope that you are not on the path of destruction.

Sigh. These are the days when winter seems eternally long.

I hear you knocking....

Its that multiplied ten times over when your cats are indoor-only cats. Herd of elephants is more like it. I have clumps of fur...and for what??

January and February always seem to drag on don't they? :(

We call that game THoE (thundering heard of elephants). It's a very extra fun game!

I'm with Helene on this one, a herd of elephants even when you have only 1 cat! She'll come wizzing down the stairs find my ankles *chomp* back up the stairs. Then the dogs gotta get in the action in chasing her *sigh*. I miss that lol

Well damn Lin, that is just like living with three girls-- two teens and one nearly 21 yr old-- in my house. It's cat stratch fever around here all the time..."she's wearing my sweater and she didn't ask".... The cats would blend right in.

All he needs is a tin cup to "rattle the bars" with. Poor Hobbes, all locked up :(
Hope it warms up a little for you guys soon.

My cats never go out but we got the same thing going on here - just one of them tho - BB, the orange boy, he is out of his tiny little cat mind. Annoying as all get out - clingy with me and picking fights with the other two - driving me crazy!

Sylvia calls it thunder paws. Ed midnight loves to do that a few times each day. It's even more fun when I joined in! Let the good times roll.

First of all, I LOVE that picture! I understand both points of view! I am a little bit Gracie and a little bit Hobbes these days.

Horses in the house, that is so funny. The younger they are the louder they can run from some reason. It snowed a foot here last night and I think it is took much for Pumpkin, he's resigned himself to the back of the sofa.

Ek...good luck making it through! There will come an end though, there always does.

Ours never get to go outside, so that battle is on daily. Although, since they are siblings there's no ill will involved. BUT pin an 18LB cat vs. a 9LB one and see what happens...not pretty.

Imagine it with FOUR cats.....

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that pic! That's EXACTLY how I feel when I haven't travelled in a while.

LOL at that pic!

I'm not so sure that I'd survive a "real" winter! I'm not a snow/cold kinda gal. :)

Yeah, blueyes-forgot about the dogs. Nothing like throwing in a yellow lab to stir it up even more. When we first adopted him a year ago the first thing he did was take off running after them (and we hadn't yet got the two cats who cause the trouble now) and knocked over the cat tree sending the two other cats scattering. My grandson put his hands on his hips and announced "GWAMMA! You need to take that dog back to the dog store!"

I remember having a cat in the house and how he used to act sometimes. At least he knew how to entertain himself. And yes, it is useless to try and tell a cat what to do.
LOL my word verification is catful. I think that is very appropriate

We have cat rodeos around here nightly no matter what time of year! They are so much fun!

I love hearing the galloping horses in the house. Usually just a flash of fur and then tumbling and stumbling up and down the steps.

I love that picture. We lived in an apartment once that had fairly wide spaces between the door and the carpet. An inch, maybe. Our cats, when they were kittens, could both squeeze completely under that door! I guess if you get the skull under, the rest is really just fur.Always cracked us up how they did it.

I think that paw/claw is just saying "gotcha!"

I call my horses either a hurd of buffalo or elephants, depending on the day. Yesterday there were wild buffalos in this house.

Helene--It sounds like they are killing each other! WHAT is with that??!

Catherine--Hate those two months. And no, hate is not too strong a word.

Daisy--OH, that IS a good name! Do you make all that noise too, Daisy?! What gives?

blueyes--OW! What's with the bitey? Hobbes has been doing that--he sits on the counter and bites whoever goes by. No more on the counter for him.

Jodi--Cats I can deal with, but not the girls. The cats at least get scared if I yell at them to stop.

DJ--Oh, he is sooooo bored!

Grace--It must be an orange stripey thing--Hobbes is doing the same thing. Although Grace is starting just as many fights. Ugh.

Chuck--Hahaha! I join in too every so often! I'm glad that I'm not alone in that wackiness. Heck, I'm bored too.

Betty--Oh, I'm stir crazy but I'm too tired to do anything about it. I need a vacation. Somewhere warm.

Jennifer--I dunno, both my kitties are pretty loud. And while Grace is literally half the weight of Hobbes, she sure makes as much noise as he does. What is with that loud running???!

Nancy--My Grace is only 9 lbs and she is the alpha cat to Hobbes' 19 lbs. She lets him know who's boss every. single. day.

Pricilla--Do they all get into it at the same time???! Yikes!

peewee--This is what I get when I try to use the bathroom by myself. Sigh.

Dee--I don't mind the snow, but winter does get a bit long after awhile. I just wish the kitties could go outside and burn off some energy.

Helene--Hahaha! I would have loved to have seen that!

Ann--They get goofy sometimes! Mine don't play together--they just fight, which drives me crazy.

Beaded Tail--Does Sadie jump in too then?? I imagine that would be crazy.

Kathy--Oh yeah--they are up and over furniture, speeding around corners--all the while, the fur is flying. It is NUTS! I can't believe your cats got under the door!

Sharky--Poor Hobbes is so bored. He wants me to play with him ALL the time.

Man, I really do miss the days of being a two-cat household. It seems like there's always one cat who hates the other and the other one always likes that one and wants to play.

Their footsteps always seemed the loudest when they ran up the stairs for some reason.

And they always liked to do a nice fight, under our bed, at 2 in the morning.
