Saturday brought us a fab performance and a second place finish overall. Personally, I think we got gypped, but I guess the judges know better than I. Colorguard scored another first place win along with Best General Effect. The Marching Astros also tied for first place for our percussion, so I think we did pretty well. Still, that first place overall would have been sweet.
And while I complain of cold weather and freezing butts on metal bleachers, the weather this past weekend was in the 80's. Sitting out on a warm fall evening was wonderful, sure beats the heck out of stuffing your gloves with hand warmers just to preserve the digits. Now if we can just coax this warmth along for another week and our final contest.
Sunday brought us a road trip to visit Colin at school.
Monday morning led us to an honest-to-goodness pumpkin farm. I mean, we were handed clippers and everything to go out into the patch and actually snip our pumpkin off the vine! Okay, so this is big for city folk--we usually just go to the garden center or the roadside stand to claim our already-been-picked pumpkin.
Who knew we'd have a Sasquatch siting as well?
Well, except for this one. Em looked kinda cute posing with her white pumpkin while ignoring the blurry Sasquatch walking the perimeter of the pumpkin patch.
I'm exhausted, but happy. Good weekend and now.... a short week ahead.

Wunderbar!
How fun to go to a pumpkin farm and get to pick your own pumpkin.
I am thinking you are a better mom then me ~ I don't think I would have cleaned the boys' bathroom. :(
xo Catherine
Smiles for a Tuesday morning :-) Now I am afraid to go to the pumpkin patch. :-)
What gives, it's the year of first place color guards and ...sigh...second place finishes. Crossing my fingers for a finale of first place and lots of captions!
Glad you had a fun time visiting Col. I always cleaned Alee's dorm room when I visited.
Finally, I'm expecting something great carved in that pumpkin. With pictures to boot.
Vanilla--:) Yeah.
Catherine--The bathroom wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. And I didn't think I would clean it either....until he asked. I'm just a girl who can't say 'no'. ;)
Helene--Watch out for Sasquatch!
Jodi--It's the music that is killing us this year. We have a lot of freshmen and there is one school in particular that is beating us in every contest. Ugh. At least winning the captions is helping a bit. Next weekend won't get us anything--it is the state competition where they group us by school size. We get killed in that grouping. Sigh. It's more for the experience than anything.
Well there is possibly hope for my messy, messy Sasquatch then....I now have a glimmer of hope he will not be in an episode of Hoarders after he leaves my house!
Your son ASKED you to clean the bathroom on your visit?? Ah, PROOF that those men will ALWAYS need us women, no matter HOW much they bellyache. ;)
Nice autumn photos. I have been unable to pry myself away from this blasted desk in weeks!
You should send that Sasquatch pic to America's Greatest. You should have a winner with that one.
My trying all most to post on blogger with no joy. Oh well . . .
Busy, happy weekend - lucky you!
I figured he would be the floor's "clean guy," you have trained him well. I am the neat freak on my floor too.

P.S. Congratulations marching astros!
I WOULD KILL for a chilly fall day and a pumpkin patch. KILL!
Congrats to Em on their color guard win! Glad to see you all got to get out of town and see Colin, relax a bit as a family, and, I suppose it is nice to find out you're the mother of the "clean guy". Haha- congrats to you too!
Sunday I passed a sign for a cut your own pumpkin place. When the kids were small I used to take them to a place that held a pumpkin carry every year. You paid one price (depending on the age of the person) and you took as many pumpkins as you could manage to carry in one trip.
Somehow I feel we are very lucky to be living now, and where we live. Many couldn't fathom the experience you had last weekend, and what it really means. Hope youz brought home a good one! Fran's Dad BTW the word verification is "frenis". Hmmmm : >)
Nice for you to get to see your kiddle, and hopefully he wasn't too mortified by having mom and dad visit.
Congratulations to the Colorguard for their first place win! Must have been the wonderful breakfast that got them off to a great start!
The pumpkin farm sounds like fun. I'll let everyone know that Sasquatch is in Illinois and not here in the Pacific Northwest as originally thought!
Melodie--Well, I have to say that Col was pretty clean at home too, so I'm not sure they really change all that much at school. I laugh when I hear him ragging about the mess in his room. ;)
Rebecca--It made me feel good and needed (!) that he asked for my help. I didn't mind. I feel like I'm all but absent here in the blog world--wanna trade for a week??
Chuck--Why is it that I have so many Joe/Sasquatch photos?? Did I marry a Sasquatch???!
Grace--I'm tired, pally. I just wanna sit and visit my blog pallies! Next week this all ends--it's sort of bittersweet.
Taylor--TAYLOR TERRY is in the HOUSE!!! ;) Hooray!! Next stop is Whittenburg, Taylor!! Get the cleaning supplies out. :) I'm glad to hear you are the Clean Guy. Your mom must be very proud.
peewee--Well, it wasn't chilly, but we did find a REAL pumpkin patch! 80 degrees was too hot to be out there too long. I miss the cool weather too.
Nancy--The best part was meeting his friends. I'm glad he's got such nice kids to hang with. :) Now I can relax.
Ann--Oh, I like that! We had a wagon to go claim ours. Gees, that was the first time in 47 years that I actually CUT the vine for my pumpkin!
Fran's Dad--There are a LOT of days when I hate where we live, but then again, we are one cloverleaf away from anywhere. I like being able to see the city AND the country in a days drive.
Sharky--Oh, I think he was, but we played it cool--we gave him lots of space. We even dropped Em off to hang with him and his friends for a bit. It's hard to know what to do!
Beaded Tail--I swear it is the cinnamon rolls!! Ever since I started making them, we've been winning! Oh--I think your Sasquatch migrated here. In fact, he is in so many of my pictures, I think I married him! ;)
I've never been to a pumpkin farm! I'm sure I would have enjoyed the visit. OMG! Em is your dead ringer!
And that's a compliment!
That's a hairy blurry Sasquatch u got there..
I wanna grow my own pumpkin too...
I was going to comment on the pumpkin aspect of this post until I found out you scrubbed your son's college bathroom. Clearly you're a better mom than I'll ever be. That would NEVER happen over here. ;)
Veronica--Well, add that to the list of things to do when you get here! ;) You better plan on staying for a long time--we've got a LOT on that list!
V7--Do they have Sasquatch where you live? If not, we can send Joe for you to capture some grainy photos of him in the wild. ;)
Violet--It's a small bathroom that 4 guys share, so it wasn't like it was huge or anything. And it really wasn't that dirty--Colin has been cleaning it all along. It just needed that "mom" touch. It was nice to be needed again!
Sounds like the band performed very well! We have our area competition this Saturday, hopefully it won't rain.
Love the pumpkin patch too! I miss when the little kids would do school field trips to get their pumpkin, I always volunteered to chaperone those trips!
Em does look cute with her pumpkin
