Hobbes is off on adventures these days--hanging out in the neighbors weed-infested yard. Apparently it is mouse-infested as well, as this is the second friend Hobbes has brought home after spending a few hours over there.
And while it's great kitty fun, it isn't so popular with the family. It's never a good sign when you hear the warning call "Don't kiss Hobbes on the lips!"--which loosely translates to "Hobbes caught another mouse".
Does he eat them? Nope. He has too many yummy things to eat in his own house, but it is the adventure he seeks. And skill--homeboy not only caught his prey, but he scaled the fence with it in his mouth as well. Amazing the talents he has, isn't it?

Oh how I wish I had Hobbes coming by instead of my neighbor. Ugh.
Our mouser is now 13 and lays around. He's earned his retirement.
We have never even SEEN a real live mousie! But Harley is an expert lizard-hunter. He swallows them in one gulp because he has learned that if he still has it in his mouth, our mom will make him give it up.
Helene--Well, I'm thinking you may have to have Hobbes over for a visit! ;) Grace is not a mouser--never has been in her 13 years. Must not like the taste of them.
Daisy--Oh no! He eats them??! Ick! I would think that would not taste good. :( blech!
Here is what I am saying, "Awww...poor Mousie..."
Here is what my cats are saying, "Awww..he didn't bite the head off?" lol
That is what my cats do...they bite the heads off and bestow upon me, their faithful Mama, the rest of the body. And, the funny thing is, they act like they are doing me a favor! ICK!!! :)
Great hunter, but fastidious eater?
Sincerely,
MO this a.m., KS tonite.
Remember the trash rule for the dead critters--bag'em. Cause you don't want that trash man note [I get] "don't throw dead animals in the trash" hehehehe...and I still do. :-P
Jodi, you make me wonder just how many dead animals do you throw away?
Sophie used to be a good mouser too. She never ate them, just played with them until they likely died of fright. Her mother, Hannah however, was another story.
Thankfully we haven't had the opportunity to discover if Maddux and Irish are mousers. Odd, you'd think mice would be more prevalent out here in the boonies.
Well, I can't blame him for not eating vermin, but the thrill of the chase is enough!
My kitties are content with their mousies stuffed with catnip. They stalk them, and bunny kick them, carry them around and fight over them. But if you open a door to the outside, they trample each other running for the stairs to go hide under the bed. Cats have long memories and my 3 remember what "outside" was like - it wasn't pretty (poor little shelter/rescue kitties).
Way to go Hobbes! Good kittie.
My cat is a birder. Never once has he brought home a mouse, but boy-oh-boy does he let us know he's caught a bird. He's very proud of his abilities, but also very protective of his catch. He makes a point of showing us, and then slinks away under the porch. I don't know what he does to them, and I don't want to know.
you're lucky. I get little piles of intestines.
If I'm not careful I step in them
Ick
I think my crew would be in their warped heaven with that neighbor's yard - well, at least Magick would.
I hope my two inside kitties will catch any mice that decide to invade our home.
Hobbies is a good kitty even if he does have "mouse breath".:)
Hobbes sure knows how to entertain himself. Hopefully those mice will stay in your neighbors yard and not decide to come and visit you
A. Marie--I'm with you--I was saying "awwww, poor mousie" too! I think Hobbes accidentally killed this thing as he didn't want any part of it once he dropped it in the yard. He even refused to acknowledge it when I asked him about it and pointed to it. Maybe he didn't know that he was supposed to dismantle it.
Vanilla--I think he likes his meals "cleaned up". Happy traveling, pally! Be sure to post photos for us!
Jodi--Did you see Highway's comment?? Hahahaha! Just how many DO you have, Jodi?? You are starting to scare me.
Highway--Thanks for the chuckle today, pally! That was a great comment!
Lola--Hobbes has to go over to the neighbors to find them. She has lots of neglected property and he loves it there. Guess where the raccoons were living??? Yeah, she can thank me for getting rid of them, $350 dollars later.
Violet--He must have toyed with that poor thing for hours and it finally died of fright. I'm just glad he didn't bring it in the cat door!
Grace--My mom had a cat like that. She ("Bob" was her name--don't ask) was a stray that came in and never looked back outside again. I guess they are smart cats. :)
Chuck--I don't know--I don't like cleaning up carcasses. I mean, catch them, but leave them where you find them! Don't bring them home!!!
LJ--Oh, I would not like that very much. Why do we have different feelings for birds versus mice? Isn't that weird? So, you have a graveyard under your porch?? EEEK!
Pricilla--That is just awful! I'm sorta glad is a "housecat" and doesn't do that to me. I was sad that he brought this poor thing to us.
Storm--Oh, he loves it there. Guess where the raccoons were living?? That old lady should be thanking me and Hobbes. I've saved her property from mice AND raccoons to the tune of $350. Ugh.
Jean--I'm afraid that if I don't watch, he'll bring his prize into the house through the cat door. I have everyone on "mouth watch"--you gotta look at the cat's mouth before you let him in these days!
Since our kitties don't go out, it's our dog that is the mouser. She's really good at it too. No remains to be found!
Poor mouse probably had serious internal injuries!
Does Hobbs deliver? Our kitties often bring the goodies in just for us. No extra charge.
My chubby little Oreo likes to catch mice too. When he catches them, he refuses to let them go. My husband usually has to wrestle him to get them away from him.
We have discovered we have a mouse or two in our crawl space and even though Angel and Isabella listen to it through the floor, we could use an orange stripey Mancat to help get it!
Sharky--OH NO! Do you think so???! :O Now I feel really bad. :(
Betty--Well, he did bring it over the fence into our yard, but then he ditched it and would have nothing to do with it. I'm not sure if that was a gift or not!
Anne--Oh, that's funny! Hobbes didn't want his after the hunt. It was almost like he didn't know what he was supposed to do with it.
Beaded Tail--Grace is like that too--she'd really rather not have anything to do with the mice. I think once she had one in her mouth and she had this look of disgust on her face and then she dropped it and let it go. Not a mouser, I guess. I think some cats aren't mousers. We'll send him over--I wonder what it would cost to ship 47 lbs???
Lin (and Highway)- my Carin Terrier is a hunter 365 days a year. She does however digest 75% of what she hunts...birds, voles, frogs. The trash man, not so keen on the rabbit in the in trash. Uli's goal in life seems to be to have a squirrel.
In the end saves me on the dog food bill. ;-)
Jodi--I have this image of the garbage man pulling up to your house, sighing deeply, and looking into your can for more carcasses. I'm sure his heart dies a little death with each can he picks up from your place. What is with that dog??! Just a natural hunter, eh? Blech. I hope you don't kiss that animal.
Blaach!! :( I hope Hobbes washed his paws after killing the mouse. :)
xo Catherine
Lin, no kissing on the dog mouth, ever! I suppose the trash man hates our household trash, being we are a house of four women ;-) Dead animals might be a treat. LOL
That's a cat's nature. :)
Oh Lin - I never did think about the bird cemetery under our porch. YUCK!! That's a picture I don't want stuck in my head.
The fact that he's no mouse eater makes him even more endearing. What a gentleman!
