Kicking off the season

It's time for the Annual Band Parent Bonfire at our place.

We invite all the band parents to our house for cocktails, some munchies, a bonfire, and some laughs to kick off the marching season. Being that we all spend so much time together in the next couple of months, I figure this is a good way to meet the new parents and to laugh with the ones we already know.

Competition starts next weekend and I can't wait to see the show completed. Football games are fun, but the highlight for me is seeing our band compete with other bands. We aren't large in number, but we make up for it on field show and music. Ooooh, I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

I'm such a dork.

Wait a minute-- what's dorky about that?

Have a great season, Astros! Yeah, funny how the football becomes merely a vehicle to the greater Marching Band, Flags, Cheerleading and the myriad of positive situational life lesson developmental skills encountered. (...um libations/munchies too). Purdue plays Western Illinois today. At some point our thoughts will harken HS competition (achievement) trips there, where the road has lead since. Cheers! As Mama used to say, "Dorky is as Dorky does." And there's nothing wrong with dorks.

Sounds fun! Hey, you love what you love, don't call your self a dork for that.

Vanilla--I guess the goosebumps part. It takes so little to amuse me. :)

Fran's Dad--Oh, I miss going to WIU--we aren't going this year. :( I love band and band trips. And yes, band offers so many life experiences--which is the beauty of it. I hope you know that you are invited tonight, Mike. There are lots of band H.O.s (hanger's on) coming. We'd love to see you!

Veronica--How easily I am amused! It's funny how your entertainment changes when you have kids. :)

Chuck--I embrace my inner dork, Chuck. Ah, heck--I embrace my outer dork too. ;)

Nancy--It's just so funny what I look forward to now! If you would have told me that I would look forward to band competitions 20 years ago, I would have laughed and said "no way!".

Being a band parent qualifies us to be geeks. And PROUD of it! We have our first competition next Saturday too. We have three of our four movements ready.

You really seems to have great comraderie with all those other parents. Band doesn't seem to be quite that big here.

They need a mascot.
Like a goat or something.

I think a goat. A Nigerian Dwarf Goat!
You can come out here any time you want to help take care of me...
thank you

Now what's so dorky about that? We all have to have something to get excited about.
Your Band Parent Bonfire sounds like a lot of fun.

Betty--There is no one more dedicated than band parents. Ours are not only great at volunteering, but they really know how to have fun.

Katherine--:) It's just funny because I never thought I'd love this so much.

A.Marie--Are you going to U of I this year?? I hope to see you there this time!

Jodi--Isn't it funny how we embrace our dorkiness?! I know I do. We start Saturday too--I can't wait!

Grace--It was nice, Grace. Perfect night for a bonfire and cocktails with friends. :)

Sharky--I didn't know it was that big here, either. I guess unless you are in it, you wouldn't know it existed. We really like our fellow band parents--we are lucky to have such a great group.

Pricilla--Oh, a goat mascot would be perfect! Do you have an orange and brown goat that we could adopt as a mascot?? I hope you are feeling better, pally.

Beaded Tail--I'm moving slow today, so I'm guessing that means the party was successful!

Stephanie--It was a great night for a bonfire--no frost here yet!

Natalee--Thanks! I can't wait for it to begin.

Catherine--We are doing another bonfire tonight with the leftovers. I'll make a marshmallow for you. ;)

Oh band season - cool! I wish I could come to your bonfire. I can be a band parent stalker. Maybe one of my younger ones will be in the band. Amber never had an interest. My girlfriend's youngest child is in the band and I keep saying I'm going to go one day. He's a sophomore now so I guess I have time. LOL

Can't wait to see all the pictures you'll take.

Petula--Oh, the band parent bonfire is pretty fun, I wish you could be there too. There is lots of food and liquor and the laughs flow easily. I think you should check out the marching band competitions if you can--it is a world I never knew existed! Let me know if you go.

The firepit looks awesome. I wanted to do a fire in mine Friday night, but my girlfriend didn't make it over until late. Maybe next time we have dinner at my place.

Wait... no BBQ???
I am expecting a wild boar or lamb chop here..

Lola--Oh, it was a GREAT weekend for a bonfire, wasn't it?? Not too hot, not too cold. No bugs!! I'm sorry you didn't get yours in--you should have popped in by ours. ;)

V7--Nope. We just did hor dourves and cocktails. I guess we could have served raccoon, right? ;)
