So, there are three very large traps in the yard each day, baited with some very yummy smelling kitty food, and we were left with strict orders to keep the kitties inside until all of this was settled. And while I'm okay with that, a certain stripey somebody is infuriated.
Hell hath no fury like an orange kitty housebound. He stomps around demanding to be let out. He mews a very angry mew insisting that we just don't understand his plea for fresh air and freedom. He flops that ottoman-sized bod on the rug and kicks his feet on the door--just in case nobody notices his displeasure of being trapped inside. He is one very frustrated kitty, I have to say.
With the frequency that this gang of hoodlums rapes my yard, I have a feeling that Hobbes' jail term will be short-lived. I fully expect that we'll capture these bad boys in no time. And with no remorse. Well.....maybe a little. But we can't have the kitties in harm's way--and it was a matter of time until someone got hurt. These raccoons aren't "sweet" or "cute"--they were getting dangerous.
So, Hobbes will be spending his time reading "If you give a mouse a cookie", renting "Born Free"and "Garfield - The Movie", and maybe singing "Everybody wants to be a cat" from the Aristocats to pass the hours of confinement.
It's gonna be a long 15 days. I'm just sayin'.

I see a coon skin cap in Joe's future.
Oh Hobbes, don't be upset! I am always Indoors, and I like it here. You just have to find some fun toys to play with.
beautiful pic! bless his heart. i can just hear those very angry mews.
tell him i said cheer up...he'll be back out soaking up some vitamin d in no time flat!
A couple months ago my bosses had a raccoon or two in their house. From the way Mrs Boss described it, it was the scene in My Cousin Vinny. With all the raccoons I have seen in our work yard in the trap over the years you couldn't pay me to live in their beautiful house.
Poor sweet Hobbes.
Hobbes in the house? Say it ain't so!
Poor Hobbes ~ hopefully he will not become too disgruntled ~ and hopefully the raccoons will be caught. So what will happen to the raccoons once they are caught? (If it's something bad, don't tell me, make something up like they are going to a Happy Raccoon Village to live with other homeless critters and where fish are free for the taking...) :)
xo Catherine
Hobbes could come here and hang out with my cat, Charity. She is also very upset that she can't go outside, because it is raining. She mews, paws at the door, mews again, looks at me to make sure I see her and mews again. I tell you...it is just a pitiful sight!! lol
I love the part about Hobbes kicking his feet at the door...FUNNY!!! :)
I totally am feeling your pain on the raccoon part; we live across the road from a cemetary that butts up to a field and we have wild animals galore at my place. UGH!
Oh, poor Hobbes! Somebody definitely peed in his cornflakes! Hopefully the coon bandits will soon be caught and relocated to the wild. Then Hobbes will have his stomping grounds back.
Hobbes just wants to be free! Hopefully, he'll will be soon.
I know you will think I am a nut, but you can get a cat video for him. It has images of birds, squirrels and other small moving animals to entertain the cat. It isn't as good as outside but maybe it will hold him until the raccoons have been removed.
Wow, poor buddy. Haven't you gotten the memo? You simply can't tell a cat what to do!! Good luck trapping those guys with the quickness!
Aww poor Hobbes .... I hope you get those critters soon.....
In all the years I have had cats only one had any interest in going outside and he only went as far as the first blade of grass, after chomping on that for awhile he was ready to go back inside. Occasionally I would take one of my Siameses out on a leash but even though they were on grass you'd swear from their complaints that I was forcing them to walk on hot coals!
I hope you catch them quickly so that the jail term can be shortened!
Jodi--Oh, don't even joke, Jodi! There is a LOT of guilt about this. Ugh. Even though I am done with the damage, I still feel for those critters. If only they were more polite.
Daisy--Hahaha! It's funny you say that, Daisy--Hobbes was digging out all his toys last night.
Roschelle--We actually caught 2 raccoons last night and he was very scared to see them through the window. I think he is scared to go out right now. Whew!
Helene--We are getting rid of these guys before they destroy more property or get in the house. It's scary how destructive they can be.
Violet--Yep. And he is NOT happy. If a cat can throw a tantrum, he's doing it.
Catherine--We actually caught 2 raccoons last night and they took them away. And yes, they went to Happy Raccoon Village--how did you know???!
A.Marie--We've had raccoons before, but not like this. They are a GANG, A.Marie, and are very thug-like. When we are afraid to go out to the garbage cans, there is a problem. So far, we caught 2 raccoons.
Hot Rocks--Hobbes went out to sniff the traps today and was in no way interested in them. Actually I think he smelled the animals and walked the long way around them. I think he is too scared now to go outside and will be back in quickly.
Chuck--He LOVES outside, Chuck. And that is why we are trapping the raccoons--we don't want the kitties or the dogs in the hood to get hurt. The whole rabbit episode kinda scared me.
Anne--We have one of those! I'll have to get it out for him--thanks for reminding me!
Nancy--We caught 2 raccoons already and I think we would have gotten the third except the opossum got in the way. Ugh. The opossum was allowed to stay--mean 'ol raccoons who destroy everything have the leave.
Natalee--We are on our way! When Hobbes saw those raccoons this morning, he didn't want to go out! I don't blame him.
Grace--I think because we are outside a lot, our kitties go out with us. They aren't allowed out if we are not home or overnight. I think they are scared to stay out too long too, which is a good thing.
Stephanie--I caught 2 last night, so I think we are on our way. These guys come every night and wreck havoc on the yard, so I think we will get them quickly. Sheesh, I hope so!
Oh poor Hobbes. Hope those traps do the trick
Poor Lin! Hobbes has his injured dignity to hang on to. You just get to listen to the yowling and pounding.
Ann--He went out today and showed no interest in those traps--I think he smelled the animals and got scared. But he can only go out for a short time so that he doesn't get trapped!
Sharky--Oh, he is very dramatic, Sharky! You should see him! I don't know where he gets it. ;)
Hobbes is a bit of a drama queen, isn't he?
Poor Hobbes! Hopefully all the raccoons are caught soon and taken to the Happy Raccoon Village so Hobbes can have his yard back!
Just be careful that there are no upstairs windows open. A couple of cats I had years ago used to get out on the roof and then jump off, escaping that way. They had so many ways of getting out that I finally gave up and let them come and go as they pleased.
I would recommend having a cat psychologist come to your home to help his through this difficult time. it's the least you can do....
I'm always amazed that you let him out of your sight in the wild yonder. I know, he always comes back in one piece but I'd worry about him.
On to the 'coons. What are you going to do when you trap 'em? Wait, are these live traps or traps that will kill the critters? Initially I thought they were live traps, but you seem really pissed at them so I'm guessing there'll be blood shed.
Good luck.
Cute--I don't know where he gets it! ;)
Beaded Tail--Happy Raccoon Village is gonna be packed when they are done here! Sheesh, we got a HUGE one last night. It takes them awhile to get here in the morning to pick them up, so Hobbes just looks at them out the window and gets scared. I don't think he wants to go out with them there.
Ratty--Nope. No windows open--it's hot and we have the air on. I let him out for a bit yesterday and showed him the traps so he wouldn't do it on his own. He stayed away because of the scary animal smells on them. That made him a bit happier.
Betty--Or how about just giving him some catnip??? ;) Kinda the same thing, right?
CG--He really only goes into one yard or stays here in ours, believe it or not. He likes to hang out under the hostas and take a nap. He comes in around dinner time and doesn't go out if we aren't home. Believe me--I'm always checking on that cat! They are using live traps and the animals are not harmed. In fact, I made Joe move one trapped raccoon into the shed last night because it was raining on him. I felt so bad! They take them away to Happy Raccoon Village, of course. And I don't hate them--I'm actually really struggling with this whole thing. It breaks my heart to have to do this, but these coons are very aggressive. Scary aggressive.
He wouldn't be hobbes if he wasn't throwing a fit about this! I love that cat more and more.
