But then, I was in a Asian store yesterday and they had a golden frog on the counter with a gold coin in his mouth. Noting that my frogs are rarely golden and they never go around carrying gold coins in their mouths, I was intrigued. So, you know I had to ask and the girl told me they mean good luck for businesses, hence the spot on the counter. So, change it was again--only a different kind of "change".
I've noticed my photography is drawn to those frogs lately. I love to go out and just watch the frogs, which sort of just entails them sitting very still looking at me, but I like to count how many I have at any given time--kinda like an frog-themed I Spy. Gees, I love those little bitty guys, but then I love my two mooses too--wow, they are big frogs.
I'm also finding myself wanting to post photo after photo of those green beauties, even though some of you don't find them half as lovely as I do. I guess frogs are an acquired taste--no pun intended for those of you who have to bring up frog-leg dinners all the time.
As I was loading the photo today, I finally realized why my penchant for frogs these days--change. Grace was right--frogs represent change. And with Colin leaving this week, I guess my frogs are just reminding me of where I am. Yep, change.
It's a good change and I'm ready for it (written hesitantly). Yeah, I'm sad to see him leave and yes, I'm gonna miss him like the dickens, but it is all good. He is off to his next adventure and I'm sooo excited for that. It's funny to be a mom because you feel everything for your child like it was you. I feel like I'm heading off to an adventure as well.
So, if I'm posting way too many frogs these days, bear with me. Change is upon us as the green frog smiles.
Now if I can only find one of those golden frogs with the coin in his mouth to pay the tuition.....

I think you need to find some kind of frog tchotchke to send to school with Colin...a sort of change/good luck charm!
Keep those frog sightings coming and be on the lookout for a gold frog holding a coin. Maybe you can find a necklace with a tiny frog on it to remind you of change and adventures.
Well I think they are cute! And I think they are a happy reminder that change can be good...legs and arms are way better that just tails after all!
I have a "lucky" frog tchotke - except he is standing on gold coins. So far he has not been an asset, as my asset's haven't changed. ::sigh:: I'm never gonna get out of this place...
BTW - the frog you have at the top of the post? A very handsome fellow!
I love your froggies and if they make you happy, well, it's YOUR blog baby so frog away.
Maybe you have flog...or a brog
Awh, Colin will be fine. How hard though, to let go? I think in late August when the air starts to have that certain starkness to it, I've always sort of internalized a bit of sorrow, a bit of change for things to come in the year ahead. ( I still mark time by school years-teacher-ha). Anyway, I think it's environmental too that people get a bit nostalgic and look to what they love this time of year.
I have one of those golden frogs - I have no idea where his coin is, though. I should probably rectify that, if I want to get anywhere in my business life. ;-)
I love frogs myself. Many years ago, I got a set of something called Medicine cards, which used Native American lore (and a lot of imagination!) to tell people about themselves and their future. It turned out that one of my "totem animals" was the frog. Another was the lizard, which is also one of my favorite creatures!
As long as you don't go trying to push a plate of frog legs on us I'm perfectly happy to look at as many frog shots as you can post. I think they're pretty cute
Wow, that was a fast summer, Colin is already off to college! Hang in there Lin, you still have one to go. And if you're feeling the half empty nest, head on down and we'll do a toddler beach trip to make you feel better (about having grown kids that aren't drowning hazards).
I had a pet frog once, but he croaked.
Diana--It's me who needs the symbolic frog--to remind me it is all good and smiley. :)
Terra--I like the necklace idea. I may have to start perusing etsy for one. :)
Melodie--Lately I have been going out at night with a flashlight to peek at them. You can really see their stripes and dots in the dark. I know nobody else thinks they are lovely, but I do. And those smiles??? Sweet!
Grace--Oh yeah! This lady's frog was sitting on a pile of coins AND he had one in his mouth. Well, you can't blame the frog, but the economy for your situation. We are all stuck where we are physically these days. Sigh. I hope things change for the better one of these days.
Pricilla--I don't like to overdo the frog thing if the pallies don't think they are as funny as I do. It's a fine line we walk here, right? Or do we hop??
Nancy--I think we are all on that "teacher's clock" as we were all on that schedule our entire childhood. I think renewal is in the fall, contrary to the New Year, which would make more sense. I like the hopefulness of fall and the new school year. Why the sorrow?
Janiss--Does your frog sit on a bunch of coins? The one I saw did and so does Grace's. Maybe that's the key to success--you need one in his mouth. I like that your totem animal was a frog. Does that mean "change" in Indian folk lore too?
Ann--Oh, there is no eating of frog legs here! I just like their eyes and their smiles. Well, I like their dotty throats too. I only have bullfrogs--I'm not sure if all the frogs are as cute.
Casey--I'm feeling a little sad, but I'm happy for him to be off to college--which I have very fond memories of. I know how much fun he is going to have, so it makes it easier on us. We are all sort of sad to see him leave. We will miss him. Get ready for Aunt Lin to come down and play playdoh!!
Chuck--Hahaha! I think you already used that one on me. ;)
I love your frog photos.
(Don't tell Hobbes!)
@Lin The frog seems to be sitting on a pile of pebbles, which can't be very comfortable! And actually, when I went to look, I found his coin. Lucky me. :)
According to the book, frogs symbolize cleansing, as in getting rid of negative energy. So if you have a bunch of them hanging around your pond, that is probably a good thing!
I think they are adorable!
Just know that you're headed in for a different sort of adventure. Will Colin be in the college band? How exciting for him!
I love photos. A Picture is worth a Thousand Words......a picture of a frog worth even more. Your reflecting pond getting lot's of use this summer! Fran's Dad
I'm wishing up a golden frog for you!
Lots of "frogs" over here too, my friend. You post away. I kinda dig it.
Lin, I promise you the coming change is good...it's going to be fun and exciting.
However if you happen to find that frog with the gold coin in his mouth, ask him if he has a brother. In a year I will be 2 for 3 in college and the money tree in my back yard isn't producing fast enough.
Why don't you try to kiss the frog Lin? It may change too... :)
Lola--I think he likes them too. He always goes over to look at the frogs.
Janiss--Hooray! You found the coin! Let's hope it works now. And I like the cleansing idea. Maybe that is why I have so many! ;0
Chocolate--Col is not playing in the band, but that is okay. It's going to be a new kind of adventure and I can't wait to see what happens next. It's like I'm going to college all over again!
Fran's Dad--The pond is funky this year, Mike. Lots of algae, but then again, lots of frogs appearing too. More than I put in! It makes me laugh to see so many out there smiling at me.
Sharky--I think we all need a golden frog with a golden coin in his mouth!
Violet--I hope your frogs are smiling too. :)
Jodi--I really mean it when I say that I am excited for him. I remember my college days fondly and I wish him all the fun I had. It makes it easier to let him go, but talk to me Wednesday night. :( There is a hole in the ground where our money tree was and he hasn't even left yet!
I had never thought of this! So frogs indicate change! Wow!
Did you notice those golden frogs have a third leg? Don't know what is means though but they symbolize good fortune and the waving cat too. See, both your fav animals bring good luck.
