It's the most wonderful time of the year.....

Marching Season.

I wait for it to begin again the minute it ends. I go through withdrawal when the season is over, listening to the year's program on my Ipod like a total band geek.

Tonight is the first football game, which to some is exciting. But it is also the first performance of the band--which is the real reason I go to the games. There is a lot of suffering on those cold bleachers for me while I wait for half-time to finally get here. And I do have to admit to bailing at the start of the third quarter if the weather is a tad bit inclimate. I'm a fair weather fan for football, but I will bundle up like Nanook of the North for anything band.

It seems a little odd to be not watching the trumpet section this year, as Col has moved on to bigger and better things. But I am looking forward to focusing on just one child again in the band and watching colorguard perform for a change.

Again, the frog of change rears its head. It's not all bad when he appears, you know?

Here's to "Marching Mondays". May they all be filled with news of great performances, trophies and warm bleacher butt.

And remember your guard lingo--they don't twirl, they spin.

Inclement weather? Pah, 'tis nothing. My band is playing! You are a true believer, Lin, and a loyal band parent.

Go Astros!

Yaay!
I was in marching band all through high school. Recently I was standing by at a town parade with an ambulance and at the end of the high school band that just passed us there were band parents with wagons full of water, first aid kits, etc...I yelled out 'YAAY BAND PARENTS!' They meant so much to us...I can't think of anything I ever needed that one of them didn't produce from a backpack or voluminous purse, including Pepto Bismol and a sewing kit. I played bass guitar so I will be eternally grateful to the band dad who carried my Kawasaki generator full of gas (for my guitar and amp) from the bus to the sidelines.

High School band was fun. We had special songs and cheers that we'd perform during games--much to the annoyance of our director. I don't recall such dedicated band parents as you. But that was over 50 years ago.

I put in my hours at HS football games, but Steve chose football over trombone. So I was watching a too-small Safety in gold and blue. But he was a good athlete, and I survived those cold and wet nights. However, I have no real longing to return.

Wow...you make it seem like fall all of the sudden! I'm still blissfully (and desperately) hanging onto summer for all it's got. Hey, it's not September yet!!

Glad you have your band back though:)

I'm sure this is exciting for you. I remember how last year, you were really sad that the season had come to an end. Hoping the weather holds out all season long.

I think I only ever saw the band at my old high school one time. Whenever there was anything like this going on it was the middle of the school day. The teachers would tell us not to come back, so I went straight home. I came back the first time, the time I saw the band, and my teacher was mad at all of us that did. I was kind of pathetically funny, then and now.

Hope the band season goes well and not too many cold nights in the bleachers! Is Col going to be in the college band?

lol our first game was Thursday...well, t wasn't a real game, just a jamboree, but the band made it as band of the week on the local TV station's football show. 4 yrs in a row...woohoo!

I'm a a bit offended you won't be looking at the trumpet section, they're always the best (as a trumpet player, i think i know a thing or two about that...lol)

While I'm excited about football season, I'm ready for the contests to get here. first one is Oct 15...or whatever that Saturday is.

Good luck to you guys up there and keep us all posted (and I'll do the same)
