I'm moving a bit slower, a bit happier, and a lot more relaxed. There is elixir in them there hills, and the warm sunshine and mega doses of sleeping in late does a gal wonders.
My motto for the week was "No hiking, no sweating, and no drama"--which was achieved for the most part. The moist air was heavy and a body couldn't help but stir up some sweat with the tiniest of actions, even breathing caused a bead of sweat or two to drip down the small of my back. Needless to say, square dancing caused a downpour of perspiration and one had to chose their dances wisely.
There's a few tales coming, but you'll have to give me a day or so to re-group. We strolled in last night and the panic of stinky laundry, an overgrown lawn, two kitties who need to be fussed over, and that darn Kentucky slow-down needs to be addressed. It would be easy if life would shut down for just one day, but the morning greeted Joe and I with the call of employment and Band Camp is calling one very crabby teenager this morning. Uh--make that two as one of those teens has to drive the other there before 8:00 a.m.
I did my best to answer comments from my "office" at the lodge, but you know, it is very difficult to be online when scenic views are calling. So, while I preached about unplugging and relaxing, know that I stayed true to my word and did just that.
I'm spending the day rushing about doing have-tos, catching up on appointments, and returning to the madness that is city life. I'm also re-adjusting my ears to fast-talking and twang-less conversation.
Most of all, I'm just wishing I was back on vacation.

It's so hard getting back into the 'swing of things' on a Monday isn't it? It is cloudy and dark and looking like it is going to rain any second here. Oh how I would love to make a cup of tea and crawl back into bed rather then go to work... oh well...
Have a great Monday Lin!

Vacation: When life slows down (yea!) and the clock speeds up (drat).
Glad you had a good Kentucky get away.
I am your partner in pain...I was in the high school parking lot at 645am dropping my kid and the neighbor at the first full band summer practice. Although Maddi has been doing color guard all summer it wasn't this early--now they punish the parent and I don't know why! I'm still on summer vacation.
Sounds wonderful! So..um...next time can I go with you?;)
Walking back into your house after vacation is such a mixed bag, isn't it? On the one hand it's good to be home.
On the other hand, there's all that stuff that's a week old waiting to be dealt with.
Welcome back, though!
Re-entry gets harder and harder for me as I get older.
I need at least a week's vacation AFTER vacation to ease back into real life. Unfortunately, real life rarely allows me that luxury.
Glad you had a great time tho!
And after reality bites, it sucks out all the juice. Even here in the land of the 7-day weekend, reality intrudes its ugly self.
I always feel like I need a vacation AFTER I get back from one. No way can I come home and jump right back in to reality
It is always so hard to get back to real life after a vacation. Of course, providing attention to the kitties is certainly valuable for all.
You know I really want to leave a comment but I can't think of a thing to say. How about "That's a pretty photo" - I don't go to places like that so it's nice to see the pretty scenery from a safe distance...Huge {{huggiez}}
Welcome back. I'm glad you had a great time. It's always good to get away from the routine.
You unplugged somewhere beautiful that is for sure. Welcome back to reality.
Welcome back! Glad you had a nice, relaxing time and hope your re-entry into reality goes smoothly too!
Sorry the vacation didn't last long enough for you. I'm sure the kitties were thrilled to have you back though.
I've also been out and about so blogging has been hard to keep up with. I'm going to try to do better.
The transition home is tough, that's for sure! I'm glad you had a great time though!
Glad you had a good time. I think the tempo of life between Kentucky and Chicago must be amazing. Welcome back.
Sounds like it was a great time. I'm always a firm believer of taking at least an extra day of vacation after vacation... just to "recover" from vacation. Relax! :)
Sounds like you guys had a great time! Welcome home :)
Catherine--This working stuff just isn't working with me. I'm with you on going back to bed and turning the have-tos off. Sigh.
Vanilla--No kidding! You pegged it completely!
Jodi--Well, it was no white water rafting, but it was nice. I did have some very exciting shuffleboard tournaments though.
melodie--Oh yes! We meet up with friends and we have just a ton of fun all week. It's nice to have fun things to do or just lay by the pool. I did a lot of laying by the pool. :)
CG--Oh, you are soooo right. All that laundry from the trip, the empty refrigerator, the list of phone messages to be returned---UGH. Almost makes you want to turn around and leave again.
JD--I love the term "Re-entry". Oh, how true that is. Yeah, I typically like a day after we come home to catch up, but alas, no such luxury for us. Money needs to be earned. Ugh.
Chuck--I had the juice sucked outta me today. I returned to work to find a mess, but hey, at least I look very important, right? I guess reality makes us feel needed.
Ann--It was horrible. Traffic was horrendous, work was nuts, it was hot at home, and I had like a cabillion messages on my phone to answer. This vacation stuff is a LOT of work!!
Anne--Oh, I got the silent treatment for a bit, but soon they couldn't resist and jumped on my lap. Cats have a way of making you pay for leaving them behind. Not that they would be any happier going along or anything. Ugh. I can't win.
Grace--I will take you on my adventures, Grace, and you don't even have to comment if you don't want to! Just as long as you don't kick the back of my seat you may come along.
Pricilla--It was GREAT to get away for a bit. I slept in late and took a little nap every now and then. The family hiked, but I only hiked to the pool. :) That was the best part.
Highway--It is lovely there in Kentucky. I love to get away from the city to breathe a bit--it just clears my mind and my soul to continue on until next year.
Beaded Tail--Oh, it was a rough re-entry! Nothing like traffic at 7:00 a.m.--ugh. It was especially hard to leave the mountains and such lovely scenery to come back to concrete and congestion. But the kitties are no longer mad at me, so I have that going for me.
Chocolate--I'm with you on trying to keep up. I just can't this summer and I can't keep feeling guilty about it. You have a mulligan here, pally. No guilt over at the Duck and Wheel. :)
Violet--It was nice to escape the routine. Sigh. Why are vacations so short???
Sharky--It is quite the difference between those two places, that's for sure! I have a couple of days to adjust when I get there and then again when I get home. I like the slowing down part much better.
Cute--I usually do that too, but my work didn't cooperate with that this year. Sigh. Life is hard. It should be more about vacations and relaxing. :)
Oh my gosh, you're even BLOGGING with a Southern accent now! You DID relax, now didn't you?
Rebecca--Hahaha! That comment cracked me up! How true! I AM writing with an accent. :)
