Bees are fools

Is it me or is this summer busy or what??! Criminy, there isn't enough hours in the day.

I've noticed the blogs are a tad quiet and the visitors fewer. Not that I'm any different, I've been awful at finding the time to visit and comment on all the blogs I follow. I feel like I'm behind on everyone's story these days.

I think last summer I instituted "Blog Off" on the weekends. That is where I took some time off to just disconnect--from the computer, from the blogs, from media in general, and from the craziness that is life. I think I'm gonna try and do that for the remaining weekends of summer. I'm gonna try and catch up on life rather than what is going on in the lives of everyone else, including Lindsey Lohan.

I think I'm gonna go watch some bees work or something. Maybe get that blessed hammock out after all and just hang out--literally and figuratively.

Come join me, won't you? Turn off the cell phone and shut down the computer. Be a little inaccessible for a moment or two and enjoy the freedom that brings. Make folks wonder where you are and what you are up to. And most of all--breathe deep and enjoy.

Happy Weekend, pallies! See you Monday.

I think there's a huge drop off in blogging during the summer time. It just makes sense, don't ya think?

I guess I'm just the exception to the rule. No matter what the season my schedule is pretty much the same all the time. Ho-hum the life of a boring person....lol

My word verification is hobsta, I wonder if that is a gangster Hobbes...lol

I feel behind too when I don't get to visit all the blogs I'd like but just constantly remind myself that it's more important to actually live life than to just read about the lives of others. That is why I learned less this week though than usual.

Blessings, as you ruminate, cogitate and rejuvenate!

I'm still here...just busy as heck, too! LOL! That's a beautiful picture though that you took. You have some good camera skills :)

Enjoy your technology free weekend!

I lost all my visitors except for you from the four months I was sick this past winter. I've gravitated to Facebook.

Our black and white 47 pounds of goodness seems to be losing ground. I'm guessing from that abandoned kitten I brought home that died 6 months later a year and a half ago. This one turned into a mama cat for the kitten even though its a male. He's only 13 but seems to be wasting away now. Waiting on vet tests but not much to do except go through this.

Plus I decided to do something new for my master's class-take time to study. This is one class (managerial accounting) I can't slide through. But I always check for Hobbes and also Red Cat Society.

I've been backing off on weekends for months now. By Friday, I try to have posts in the queue for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I may, or may not, visit favorite blogs on Saturday and Sunday.

As to bees being fools, that applies only to the males (drones). Do you know why?

I haven't posted much lately. I guess I feel I should post, but my motivation isn't there. Maybe it's the heat, part of it is that my day job is busy for me now, and part is I just don't feel creative. But yes, readership is down, so I don't feel too bad. I'm semi-unplugged and it feels pretty good overall.

Enjoy your downtime, chicky!

Enjoy some time to relax. When it's hot I seem to have no choice. Body doesn't like it.

Violet--I'm glad everyone else is sort of M.I.A. too, I don't feel so bad for my absence. I think it is good to take small breaks or we may face burnout. I just need a weekend or two and I know I'll be back at it.

Ann--LOVE the gangsta version of Hobbes! That's hilarious! Really? You don't find yourself turning off the computer to go swimming with Duke?? I'd be in that pool ALL the time!

Karen--I'll be back at it full-time again in no time. I just have a lot going on until Col goes off to school. I want to spend our weekends with the kids and relax a bit. I'm glad you are doing that too.

Vanilla--I'm sort of taking your lead, pally. :)

Sherrie--What happened to lazy summer days?? We have to make an effort to relax now, don't we? It's crazy to pencil in "relax" in the calendar--Ugh.

Helene--I'm still checking in on you, so keep posting! I hope your kitty is okay--that is very scary. He may have caught something from the kitten, but he may also just be getting old. Grace is really thin too, and I'm sort of worried about her. She is 13 now and I think that is old for kitties. I hope it is just old age.

Chuck--I took your lead too, pally. It's nice to turn it off a bit for a few weekends. School is starting soon and I want to capture every moment with the kids before they run off in every direction. Sheesh, summer is going fast! As for the bee question--is it because only the males are the worker bees and the queen sits on her throne bossing everyone around???

Kathy--I like how you post and let it set for a day or two to collect comments. That's a good blogging concept that I'd like to try. I think we are all feeling unmotivated and uninspired when we are hot. Maybe when school starts and it is cooler everyone will be back. I know my weekends off won't last too long.

Grace--I'll be thinking of you, Grace! Commence swinging.....

Sharky--No kidding. I don't like sitting at the computer in the summer when there is so much going on outside. I'll have the whole winter to catch up with everyone, right?

I've been posting in spurts, not commenting much. This weekend will probably be internet free because it's jam packed with birthday and other festivities. Enjoy your time in the hammock!

This weelend you'll find me in the pool, the only sensible place to be in this 100* STL heat, watching our Cards try to beat the Cubs (which as of right now does not appear to be happening). Hoping the ice in my beverage can chill be the ice melts.

Sadie says we have to have a Sadieday post but maybe I can take Sundays off. But then there'd be Sadieday on Sunday...oh well. Anyway, hope you enjoy your weekends off!

Enjoy your mini vacation. If you really want to get away, you can come to the Ozarks where there's no cell phone reception. That way you won't be tempted to "just turn it on to check". Course your kids might go stir crazy with the dial up internet.

Have a good weekend....
enjoy. I've been slacking too.

No, only the females are the workers. The males (drones) do nothing for the good of the hive, except that one of them will win the race to fly fastest and highest and mate with the queen. When the first frost strikes the females block the males from entering the hive. (Females are the only with stingers.) The males will all die that night. The gals will continue to care for the queen and hive through the winter.

Natalee--Hey, you too, pally!

Lola--Isn't it crazy???! We'll all be back at it in no time. School is right around the corner. Ugh.

Jodi--The pool is the only place to be these days. I'll see you in the deep end. :)

Beaded Tail--I guess I could post ahead, but my wee brain doesn't handle two posts well. And don't skip Sadieday--I LOVE our walks together!

Ozark Mtn cats--We've had no cell phone reception this week and it is hilarious to see the kids checking, checking, checking again to see if they might just possibly get bars by chance. They don't know what to do with their arms!!!

Pricilla--I guess we all need some down time, right? I'm glad it isn't just me who is slacking. :)

Chuck--So, in the end, those lazy boys all die off--aha! That'll teach 'em. :) I didn't know all that about bees, Chuck.

I've noticed a huge drop off but I feel that I am not following your instructions by reading your blog and commenting ;(

I guess I don't play well with others.

Anne said...

I'm still here. Just having trouble keeping up with everything while juggling 2 kids. Enjoy your weekends off.

Lin said...

Highway--I was just giving us all an excuse. I mean, if we ALL do it, then some of us won't have guilt, right? (oh, I like that you make your own rules--I'm like that too.)

Anne--Isn't it crazy???! My kids are older and I STILL can't get it all done. Ugh.

Hey Lin! I think you are spot on about slowing down on the weekends from blogging. I stayed away from the computer and had a lovely weekend. But gosh ~ now one has to catch up don't they???

Hope Hobbes caught a bug or two this weekend! Banjo loves catching moths that fly into the house on warm evenings. :)
xo Catherine

Lin said...

Catherine--Aw, I don't think you have to catch up--just jump in and act like you've been there all along. :) I know, I feel like I'm behind too, but do we ever feel on top of things??? Go Banjo!! Nothing like those flying bugs.
