So, it was a lovely breezy evening and it ended up being a hoot of an event. Add this:
Plus this: ( a lovely venue for the CYSO)
I kept my cool until Betty's parents :

acted like these two. I couldn't stand it and cracked up until I laughed out loud.......for a very long time.Yes, I had tears rolling down my cheeks until other folks were giving me "the glare".
I don't know, I just found a maraca solo hilarious. Apparently, other people don't find that as hilarious as I do. Whatever.
Thanks, Ted, for a fabulously fun season with the CYSO. And thanks, maraca soloist, for the laugh. My stomach literally hurts from laughing at/with your solo.

Oh, I love THE GLARE. I get that a lot. F'em, Lin.
Glad you had a good laugh.
I had to YouTube maraca solo. Uh, wow.
I bet that guy has really well-developed forearms. I think I could rock a maraca solo. Now where's the dry rice?
Oh yes! A maraca solo would have me rolling in the aisles!
BTW - cute top. Love tie dye.
I mean just by the nature of the instrument wouldn't that be a duet?
Shake those maracas!
I understand there are "maraca bands". Maraca band is to the ears as staring at the sun is to the eyes?
You are so bad! But really...maracas? I'd have to laugh too!
a maraca solo! my boyfriend and I feel like we could be professional clappers - those people who clap to the beat during musical recordings
I would love to see a Maraca soloist but I am afraid I would escorted out.
What a hoot. Great story.
At least it wasn't bagpipes.
maybe one day I can aspire to be a maraca soloist.
*dreams*
I just wanna know who really gets the write off on the taxes for Ted? LOL
I assume by maraca solo you mean one person--not one maraca. (Ah, I see Pricilla is also confused). I can't imagine anyone playing just one maraca. Was he wearing red and yellow ruffled sleeves?
If you got to embarass one of your offspring then it was time well spent...lol Some people just need to learn how to have a good laugh
Getting a case of the giggles is always so fun! It's just too bad that others don't always think so. I would have loved to see and hear a video of the solo and your laughter!
The last time we went to the nightclub one of the women from our group whom we have never met before brought maracas. She danced solo with the maracas and after a while offered 1 maraca to others to dance with her. It was kind of bizarre. When we left I said to my girlfriend "I have one question for you...do you think she always brings maracas to the club?" She busted out laughing. I mean she had a carrying bag for them and all...I just wanted to know. lol!
Casey--You know you are having fun when someone gives you the "glare". I love a good laugh and that one was GREAT! :)
CG--I had a video, but it didn't really do the guy justice. The highlight of his performance left me unable to take pictures--I was laughing too hard. This guy had his whole arm going--like a drum solo. It was hilarious.
DG--And he was SO serious! I guess you had to be there, but it was hilarious.
Pricilla--Hmmmmm....I don't know. Being that they call them maracaS (plural) I think they are meant to be used together. Sort of like cymbals.
Vanilla--At one point, numerous orchestra whipped out their own maracas to back this guy up, but by that point, I was too far gone. Well, at least I had a good laugh, right?
Violet--It was sort of like laughing at a funeral, but not as bad. It started with Ted's grandparents, then Joe, and soon, it was me. We all sat there dying. I still don't get why nobody else found this hilarious.
Lauren--Oooooh, I am impressed! Maybe you could do a clapping solo!!! :)
Highway--There is a guy on YouTube, but he wasn't as good or nearly as dramatic as our guy was. You had to be there. My stomach STILL hurts from laughing so hard!
Chuck--I LOVE bagpipes! Seriously. At least it's an instrument that you see. You don't see Professional Maraca players too often. It was great. Well, for a laugh anyway.
Stacie--Yes. After years and years of practice. Just imagine the places you could go with that talent. Hey! You could do a duet with the guy we saw!!
Jodi--Wellll, they are gonna pay his college bills, so I guess they get the write off. I'm just gonna ride in on the glory. Nice of me, eh?
Patricia--Imagine a drum solo in your head--that's what it was like. His arms were flailing, all the while looking very intense and serious. No ruffled sleeves--just slacks and a casual dress shirt. There were people standing in line to get their pictures taken with him afterward too! I was going to, but I couldn't do it with a straight face.
Grace--Well, I think you ought to take up the triangle again. There must be glory or a lot of money for this guy to be a "professional" maraca player. Think of the glory, Grace!!
Ann--Well, there were a LOT of people there who either didn't think it funny or they were really stuffy. Sheesh, we were DYING!
Beaded Tail--I do have a small video that I tried to upload, but the quality was really, really bad. And it wouldn't do him justice. I think it's one of those times that you just had to be there. And you are right--I love a good case of the giggles!
Lola--What is with THAT???! Now that is weird! How funny--a case??
I googled maraca - I had no idea how it looked like but I do know the kind of sound it makes from Josh's toy piano. It has a maraca button on it.
BTW - love the pics.
Can I rock with a maraca?? If so, play on!! LOL
The venue is so grand!
Just the fact you went to this event makes you....Priceless....
PLU!
i just love to yuk it up with my kids in public. You should see us at WalMart!!!!
Veronica--Ooops. I forgot that not everyone knows what maracas are! It was probably something left unseen, Veronica. Or I need to grow up....a LOT. :)
Keats--Welcome, new pally!! Yes, you can rock some maracas--this guy did. I have a very fuzzy video, but it didn't do him justice. I guess it was just best left to memory. Let me know if you tour with your maracas. :)
V7--Isn't it lovely??! It was so nice to sit out there and enjoy the music.....and the maracas. :)
Don--I really enjoy the orchestra, but I had no idea we would be facing a maraca solo!! Heck, I would have had my video camera if I knew how hilarious it was going to be!! Bummer.
Rebecca--Oh, from the photos of your kids, I can see you all love to have fun. They would have loved this one. We all had the giggles BIG TIME! You can't miss with Walmart--that place is classic!
