See? I told you he was heavy.
"What?!" you say. "Weren't you scared she was gonna murder you and stuff you in the trunk of her car?!". Nope. Lola and I have met at Starbucks a few times over the past year or so and she has never murdered me, so I came to the conclusion it was safe for her to see where I live and to finally meet Hobbes and Grace. Let it be known that I practice extreme internet safety here at the Duck and Wheel.
We met up with CardioGirl at a hotel in the city about an hour later and what a hoot that was!
First, I had to absolutely mortify my pally by giving her a hug--which I didn't learn until later that I creeped her out. But it turns out I creeped Lola out by doing that to her the first time I met her too, so it's all good. Sheesh--what is with these non-huggers??? Let it be known that I am a hugger.
She's just darn lucky I forgot my threat of a few months ago to plant a big giant smoochie on her CardioGirl lips--just to freak her out. I don't typically do that sort of thing, but it was part of a post about personal space and.........well.......whatever. It's hard to explain. I was being silly. CG mentioned that she freaks with having to hug or kiss when couples get together--you know how friends do that? Well, long story short--I just threatened to smoochie her and that freaked her out. I found it hilarious.......she did not. I think that poor girl was panicking knowing that she was going to meet me and I might remember saying I would do that.
Moving on.....
Soon, the time drifted away and we had to head home, but not before we asked the lifeguard to stop cleaning the barfy pool and take our photo. She obliged willingly, but look at the choices here. I'm sure she thought us odd.
It's funny when you meet blog pallies in person. There is this sense of "I know you. You are my friend. But I don't know you and I have never seen you before in my life." It's all very odd, but nice too. It's good to know that a person really exists behind that header and all those posts. There is depth and reason for what we do and we have this strange connection in the world of electronic communication. And while we don't really know each other, we do. It's a friendship of the strangest kind, but in the end, it is a friendship. And one I truly enjoy.
Thanks, Lola and CardioGirl. Thanks for the chuckles and the nice evening. And thanks for saving me from the spider, Lola.

How fun to meet a couple of blogger friends in person! And how lucky Lola was to meet Hobbes. That's funny about the 'hugs' thing. I am a hugger too and there is a gal at work that can't stand being hugged. I don't get it.
Well Lin...if you and I ever meet up one day...prepare to hug!!! :)
xo Catherine
How much fun is that to meet fellow bloggers in person!!!
Man that was a good time! Hey, the pool was clean and ready for splashing the next morning. I don't think they really shocked it. I think they used a net and some extra chlorine.
And the hug wasn't that bad after all. I'd hug you again. But no kisses. Evah. I won't even kiss Hobbes.
Forget Hobbes-I have to meet that green lawn of yours already!!!!! No No Nooooooooooo I didn't mean forget Hobbes....
I'd never have you to my house-my buddy ripped me apart yesterday on the condition (or lack thereof) of my lawn yesterday with the final "...but it's not MY house..."
Well shit Lin, I'd hug you. And then hug you again.
Hobbes deigned to give thirty seconds to someone he had just met? Pretty friendly cat if you ask me.
Nice you had a fun "party" with like-minded people.
The picture is priceless because you look like you have having so much fun. I've not met any of my blogger friends in person (I don't count the one I already knew). I'm glad you have a great day.
I'm a non-hugger.
Oh man he sat on her lap???? ack. I am so jealous! But happy for her, sigh. big sigh... give that guy a scratch for me
We seriously need to meet up! I want in on this fun! (Not sure about the pool location...but willing to go with it if need be.)
Catherine--I don't think I became a hugger until recent years. Maybe I'm mellowing, I don't know, I just know when I am happy to see someone, I just gotta hug 'em. Usually people like this. Or they are just too scared to tell me otherwise. I'm glad you get my hugginess too. ;)
Mtn Woman--It is!! I know it sounds freaky, but if you meet with someone you have been pallies with for a long time, it just seems natural. It was scary the first time, but soon, you find you feel like old friends.
CG--I think chlorine is the universal pool "fix" and like a blessing at church, it suddenly makes the water okay for human usage. WHAT??! You wouldn't kiss Hobbes???! Sheesh. You'd be missing out on that one, pally! I'm glad you met up with us--I had such a great time. :) You missed me trying to score a discount with the parking guy--he was having no part of it. Sheesh.
Helene--Here is the secret to a great lawn....it is a SMALL yard and there are TWO of us who work on it a lot. TWO of us. (Hint Hint House Buddy) You are welcome any time to come lay on that lawn with your stripey friend. He's always looking for someone to hang with out there.
Jodi--I KNOW we'd be fast friends, Jodi. I do. First we'd hug and then we'd go grab a cocktail. You have to let me know when you are coming this way and we are gonna meet up! Yep. Count on it.
Vanilla--I'm so glad you are back in the blog 'hood, pally! Yeah, Hobbes was pretty good for a cat. He came over to see Lola and then just wanted to sit on the grass with us. We had to get a move on, otherwise I think we could have just hung out with his stripey self. YOU are next on the meet-up list. Get your hugger ready!
Highway--Awwwww, but I might want to hug you when I meet you! Can't you just go along with it?? Hugs are good, you know. Uh, your blog came up that night as one of my favs--I'll be posting a link this week. Get ready. It will cost you one hug. ;)
Tracy--Lola isn't a hugger either, but I think she thought about hugging Hobbes. She held him for a bit, but you know cats--he was playing "hard to get". Are you a hugger??
Violet--Oh, we weren't swimming or anything, we just met at the hotel pool because CG had her Girl Scouts there for a Chicago trip. They were scheduled for a swim in the pool when some kid barfed in it and rendered the pool unusable. There was a lot of fuss and men in suits with walkie-talkies. It was pretty hilarious. You let me know when you are heading this way and the welcoming committee is ready!! Lola and I are like the Blog Chicago Greeters!
I am a hugger, too. So bring it on. I am so jealous of Lola. I want to hold some stripey goodness.
I'm actually ok with the hugging now, because I know you. I've mellowed quite a bit over the years. It's not a big deal anymore.
Hobbes is one chillin' lump of stripey goodness. I've got my photo set to post Thursday, for I Love Hobbes Thursday.
No problem about the spidey. He didn't really put up a fight.
And you three color coordinated. What's the chances--or did you plan that in advance?
Like Vanilla said, Hobbes is certainly a friendly cat.
What fun to meet blogging pals! I have never had the opportunity, I don't think any one lives nearby! Catherine, from Corner of Cats Mind, is probably the closest and she is still way over in the next province, of Saskatchewan! Glad you had fun.

Exactly.
Btw I wonder what Hobbes thinks of all this celebrity status of his-strangers coming over to meet HIM. I'll be content to sit there and watch his antics. I'll probably take more pictures of him than I did of Davy Jones :-)
If you take the weeds out of my lawn I'd have dirt.
There are so many blogger-friends I would love to meet in person. And while I was always a cheek-kisser, I have only recently become a hugger.
Hug Away!
It is fun to meet people you "know".
Odd that, eh?
You should come to Montana!
Pet a goat, or two.
Glad you had so much fun by a vomity pool.
I won't even ask why the pool was barfy!
I'm a hugger too and I've met three blog friends and hug, I did!
Great pictures. Sounds like it was so much fun getting together.
That looks like a fun bloggy meetup! One day, I'm meeting your crazy ass too. And although I'm anti-hug, I will tolerate one from you. Glad you girlies had a fun time!
I've never been much of a hugger but it has never bothered me when other people are. How cool that you got to meet bloggy pals in person. I don't think anyone within a 100 mile radius blogs. If they do I don't know about it. Every time I mention my blog to someone they just sort of give me that look like "you're weird"
Merry--Well, you are gonna have to take a trip up to see us, pally! Hobbes doesn't like hugs, but he would love the company out in the yard.
Lola--You definitely showed that spider who's boss! I was impressed. I think that is hilarious that you are doing a I Love Hobbes Post. I'll be sure to link you. :)
Chuck--Nope. No color coordination. Heck we couldn't figure out how to stand for the photo!! Hobbes is all about people--he comes running when you call him, so yeah, I guess he is friendly.
Hot Rocks--Oh, that is so sad! You are gonna have to come to Chicago to meet up with us. We have a lot of bloggers around here. Lola and I are sort of the welcoming committee.
Helene--Isn't that funny that we are all goofy for that cat??! I said the same thing you did--he's like a celebrity! You should have seen him walking the fence for the guests at our party this weekend. He had the place in stitches--it was like a Disney dinner/show.
Grace--Oh GOOD--I can hug you! I just love to give those I like a big hug now, which I never did when I was younger. I think Lola and CardioGirl secretly loved my hugs. ;)
Pricilla--Well, at least the pool didn't smell vomity! I guess some kid barfed in there, rendering it useless for the hotel guests. I am gonna travel out west and come visit you one day. I'm gonna take care of all the goats while Patty goes on vacation. Doesn't that sound like fun???! I wonder if goats like Sangria??
Chocolate--Oh, I SO had you pegged as a hugger! I would think that Chuck is too. Isn't that funny how you just sort of know? Some kid barfed in the hotel pool and so nobody could use it--including all the Girl Scouts that CG was with on a trip to Chicago. It was sad for them, nice for us--it was quiet and dry. :)
Casey--I thought about contacting you while we were in Disney, but you know, that place is just insane. And you don't have a free minute to do anything but Disney. I will definitely come find you next time I'm there OR you can take a vacation and come see us in Chicago! Wouldn't that be fun???! You would get a HUGE hug and an even bigger cocktail from me. ;)
Ann--See, that's the beauty of meeting up with bloggers--they GET IT! They don't look at you all weird when you say that word and we just compare notes on the world of blogging when we get together. It's hilarious! I hope you can meet up with us someday--Lola and I welcome you to Chicago anytime!
It would be fun to meet blogging buddies in person, but video blogging is the next best thing. I think they give the readers a good idea of how the blogger really is and it's also fun to see inside their homes. I'm planning to do a "home tour" one day. I saw a meme somewhere but can't remember where. I just didn't have time to do it when I came across it.
I am not a hugger either, but it sure would be a thrill for me to meet Hobbes.
LOL, my word verification was dernat, and that perfectly describes what I thought when I saw Lola with Hobbes: "Dernat, I want to meet Hobbes too!"
I love meeting blogging friends in person. What's even odder, though, is meeting the human employees of blogging cats, because you are even one more step removed: "I know you - well, actually, I don't KNOW you, but I know your cat. Well, I don't really KNOW your cat, but my cat knows your cat, except they've never been in the same room together. Uh, hi, nice to meet you in person!"
Awww Im soooo glad you had fun..im going to visit Lola and cardio girls blog now... You look great in that pix.... HUGS!!!!!!!!(ps..im a little jealous over the whole meeting Hobbes thing...LOL)
I'm so jealous that Lola got to meet Hobbes and Grace! Of course I'm jealous they both got to meet you too but she even got to hold Hobbes! Dang, she's lucky!
Too funny!
Gosh, I think it's so cool that you met other bloggers. I'm a hugs person.. but, uh, NOT a kissing person. Just so you know. lol
Karen--I like your thought on video--I think you are right that you can get a vibe from that. I don't think video quite captures my loudness, but who knows. I haven't tried it yet. I would love to meet up with you, pally. We have friends in Cleveland, you know.
Janiss--That is funny about the cats/humans meeting. And I thought humans meeting is weird enough. Heck, I call Lola that and it isn't even her real name!
Natalee--Notice not one person is jealous that they didn't get to meet ME! Criminy. That cat steals all my thunder. I suppose you want to hug him too! ;)
Beaded Tail--Lola is the first blogger to meet Hobbes. I think I might start selling tickets or something. I hope he doesn't get a swelled head over this.
Rebecca--I'm not a kisser either, it was just me being silly. I actually have a friend that grabs our cheeks and plants one right on the kisser to be silly. That is what I threatened CG with. I think that girl thought I'd really do it!! Hee! Hee! I guess a hug isn't so bad in comparison.
I am so jealous!!! Most of all, chance to hug that stripey goodness!
Did you realized that you and other two pallies are wearing harmony shirt colors? What a great bonding time!
Oh, y'all look so pretty and happy and shiny!
I AM jealous that Lola got a heaping helping of Stripey Goodness. But I'm glad you all were able to get together and hang out.
When I first met Junk Drawer Kathy, it was in a rather quiet hotel lobby. I don't think she was expecting a screaming banshee to jump on her and squeeze her almost to death, but that's what she got, jack.
Hic!
V7--You are like the third person that commented on the shirt color!! Wow--never even realized!! But we look good, don't we??! ;) I'm waiting to meet up with you, pally. I'm sure we are gonna be cRAZy on that day!!!
JD--You are my kinda gal! I'd be crazy like that, but I think I'd scare the crap out of CG and Lola. They are pretty mild and soft-spoken chickies. Okay, prepare for hootin' and hollerin' when we meet up. We need to do that SOON!
Pricilla--You aren't gonna barf in the pool, are you??? :0
Well geesh - I didn't know I was gonna get a CG siting photo with this post! Bonus! I'm glad she took the dare to meet you during her trip - despite the paranoia over the threatened smooch.
I personally don't enjoy the smooch greeting. But I'm all about the hugs. Just leave those "Peace be With You" handshakes alone though - I always feel like I'm being called out for never attending church - like I have to go introduce myself to all these good worshippers.
Bumbles--Isn't it a hoot to see CG in photos??! It was pretty hilarious to meet her in person. She is much more quiet than I imagined. And no, I don't typically kiss folks upon meeting--it was just that she was super freaked out by that thought. I'm with you on the "handshake of death". Eeek! All those germs!
