We each have our own way of picking winners--Joe reads the stats, I'm looking for 'mudders' (as they have received an inch of rain this morning), Em picks by their names, and Col just picks a horse, any horse, out of obligation. Not huge wagers, there isn't much in the way of a win around this place, it's mostly for bragging rights and trash-talking later on.
And while Joe is crushing mint leaves for the bottom of our Mint Julep glasses, Fain says that adding all that sugar and water is just wasting good Kentucky Bourbon. I like her thinking.

Used to love going to the track and watch the ponies run...Ah, the good old days. Hope your horse wins...
Lin, don't forget to don your hat around the house while sipping that whiskey ;-)
Mmm, nothing like the taste of a good hat.
I'm with Fain. Just add ice!
45 minutes till race time. Quess I'll make my bet now so the rest of the world can be forewarned to quickly change theirs.
American Lion
Dean's Kitty to place and show. And to win, an Irish horse Paddy with my favorite jockey
I like picking horses by the name too. I just go down the list and the one that jumps out at me is the one I pick. I found that this is not a very successful method
Good luck Lin. I love to gamble, but I forget about the derby every year.
Is there Kentucky Fried Chicken too? I always believed that KFC originated from there.
Grace--Mine came in 3rd and I placed my bet to "Place", so I lost. Bummer. Joe picked the winner but we don't know how much he won yet. I'm thinking that $2 he put down isn't gonna send us into the next tax bracket.
Jodi--Oh, and I was singing "My Old Kentucky Home" too. :)
Pricilla--Did you see all the mud??? I kept thinking pigs everywhere would have loved it.
Lola--Oh, that Fain is very wise indeed.
Ozark--I picked Paddy too, but we only got 3rd. Bummer. Joe picked the winner! Whoooohoooo!
Ann--I used to date a jockey back in high school, so I knew enough to pick a "mudder" today. It didn't help much as mine only got 3rd. :( Sigh. I'll never be rich.
DG--Fain would never allow us to forget the Derby. Joe spent half the morning trying to get her on the phone for her picks. Then we had two more follow up calls before the race to discuss our choices. Derby day is big in Kentucky! And with Fain.
Vanilla7--Funny you should ask! KFC was originated in Corbin, KY--where we go on vacation every year. It started out as the first road stop for travelers. The Colonel had a cute little motel and restaurant along the highway for folks traveling by car. He was instrumental in starting the motel business as well. I'll post a photo of the first KFC for you one of these days.
I am curious who won. I hope you will let us know. What about Hobbes? Does he get to play? Or is he too busy basking in the sun?
Anne--Super Saver. Joe won a whopping $18 on $2 bet!!! Whoohooo! We are ROLLING IN IT!! ;)
So did you wear one of those huge ass hats?
Tracy--Nah, I was cleaning house and it would have only gotten in my way. But I thought about it though--does that count?? I'm thinking a huge ass hat would offset my huge ass. :)
LOL, my father-in-law would love the Kentucky Derby. He bets on anything that moves!!
Have a nice day, Lin!
Well, yeah theres that and combining it with the busy poopin' post its quite the visual you know... busy poopin' in a giant derby hat?
quite the fashion statement!
Fain has it right. Remember the larger the hat, the smaller you appear to be. :)
Veronica--The Derby is huge! Do you hear of that in Malaysia??
Tracy--I wonder if I'd fit in the stall with a big hat on? Note to self: Don't get the hat with the giant feather on top. That'll give me away in the ladies room.
Chuck--How do you know so much about Kentucky Bourbon and ladies' picture hats?? ;)
It's always mentioned in movies about horse races like Racing Stripes, Dreamer, etc! I'm a walking movie trivia, remember?
