I quickly made the decision to ditch work for the day, instead having my idea of Mother's Day on Thursday and spending the day out in my yard getting down and dirty with the earth. I loved the spontaneity of the moment and relished the thought of getting some things done around here instead of pushing papers at work. Thank goodness for flexible work schedules!
I love going out in the yard because there are always surprises awaiting me. Sure, there were thousands of weed saplings sprouting up in the back garden because none of my neighbors believe in Weed and Feed, but that didn't bother me. I had the time to putter and the sunshine felt nice on my back while I cursed the sticker weeds.
There were the irises on the side of the house, blooming and enjoying the sunshine with me. I watched the new tadpole sunning his squishy self on the rocks in the shallows of the pond. I busted two snails doing the nasty in the deep end--well, that's what I think they were doing. Maybe they were just eating algae off each other's shells--it was hard to tell. And I figured out why Hobbes loves the neighbors yard so darn much--they've got a catnip plant the size of Manhattan growing in their weeds! They had better not beef about him coming into their yard after I found that bad boy.
See? Surprises. Mother Earth has a way of always surprising me.
Okay, so sometimes there are surprises that come up that aren't so hot, but there weren't any of those yesterday. It was all good. Heck, this whole week has been good--busy, but good.
My gyne referred me to a physical therapist that specializes in pelvic floor dysfunction, believe it or not. And when I talked to this PT, she told me that her whole practice is helping people with the same condition that I have--who knew?! That was a nice surprise, wasn't it?
Good friends of ours may be re-locating nearby -- Good.
My pally's (Wendy) daughter was just announced to be our Drum Major for next year -- Good.
I have 2 new tadpoles and 3 new snails for the pond as of Monday -- Good.
Wendy and I were asked to be a part of the new Education Committee in our school district and were well received -- Good.
It's nice to have a week where good things are happening. We all know that there are plenty where it feels like you are Henny Penny and the sky is falling, but this wasn't one of them. And I don't take that for granted. I'm feeling like one of those irises on the side of the house--smiling while the sun shines on my face for the moment, forgetting about the rain for another day.
Happy Weekend, pallies. May you all have a blessed Mother's Day and spend time with those you love. May you take a moment or two to walk away from the computer to just breathe. Go out and look for surprises in your yard and may they all be good surprises that you find.

All of your good news makes me smile and be happy for you.
You may be interested to hear my son is now the proud owner of two little frogs now. ;)
Actually, while you were dancing in the yard, the sky did fall for a moment yesterday (stock market). Hope you got all them plants in, with the rains we are getting now. Happy Mothers Day! Fran's Dad
What a wise choice you made. Thursday was beautiful and today it is raining. Iris are beautiful flowers. There was a woman in the small town where I grew up that raised and bred them. Folks came from far away to buy some of her more exotic iris. (Or is it irises?)
Like the song says - You are really walking on sunshine.
I'm happy for you Lin! Good things, only good things :)
Some of that good this way, I've been having a crappy week.
Awesome news! Congrats on taking what I call a Ferris Day. Taking off and doing fun stuff for the day. Great news about the gyne and PT.
I miss my Irises from my old house. (Don't miss the old house though. I really wish I would have had time to divide them before I moved and take some.) I had Purples Bearded Irises and yellow Irises. This year I've got to get some and plant them. I love Irises. But my little Lilacs are in bloom in front of my porch, so that makes me happy.
Huzzah for good news! I love it :) And I'm glad you were able to ditch the work and enjoy the sunshine. Now if only I could get my company to let us have flexible work days. Then again, I might never go in!
In answer to your question, yes, I am back :) Yippee!
Have a great weekend and a happy Mom's Day to you!
Jen
I'm so glad you made time for yourself and spent a happy day in the yard. I look forward to doing that, maybe next week, weather permitting. Altho I don't have any squishy tadpoles. I guess I'll have to settle for communing with the Bunny Family.
Happy Mother's Day to you. Enjoy it.
I'm glad that you have found someone who can help you with your problem.
What a wonderful way to spend your day! I am jealous of your Iris blooming, mine will still be another 6 weeks or so! Glad you are having a good week, and a very Happy Mothers Day to you!!
I posted pictures of the baby hummingbirds (and my new glasses). I thought you might like to know.
Happy Mothers Day!!
Life sounds good over your way!
Good for you for staying home and enjoying the nice day! I think we stole your good weather for this weekend - sorry! :)
Happy Mother's Day to you too Lin!
Your alarm doesn't go off until 5:30? I'm jealous. Then you got to take a day off so I'm double jealous. But since it's been all good here too I'll let it slide and just wish you a Happy Mothers day
Happy Mum's Day Lin :) I can see even God smile at that Iris.
I nice easy weekend is always a good thing. There's too much rain around here right now. But those little helicopters are covering the ground everywhere.
Violet--Yea!! I love to hear frog stories!! Are you gonna post photos of them???? I'd love to see them you know. ;)
Fran's Dad--Sheesh, being outside I never heard a thing about the tumble yesterday! Yikes! Kinda glad I missed that.
Chuck--Ooooh, those sound lovely. I like irises, but they bloom so darn early! Their season is way too short.
Grace--Yeah, it's nice to feel like that every now and then. :)
Tracy--I like weeks like this one. I am pooped though.
Jodi--Bummer, Jodi. I'm packing up some good and sending it your way now. Let me know when you get it. :) Hang in there until it gets there.
Lola--Save Ferris! Hahaha! ;) Hey, I'll dig up some of my irises to give you if you want. I'm always splitting the stuff in my garden if you want anything else.
Jen--I work independently and part-time, so I sort of make my own schedule, which is nice. I don't earn a lot so that is the trade-off. Happy Mother's Day to you too. ;)
JD--Well, the bunny family sounds much cuter than my tadpoles any day! I would just worry about their safety all the time though. Do you do that??
Pricilla--I almost cried when I talked to her on the phone because she understood what I was going through!! I am not nuts after all!! Hooray. I do have to wait a month to start treatment, but at least I know it is coming.
Hot Rocks--They are on the sunny side of my house so they bloom fast--maybe too fast though. I love their colors in the spring. Happy Mother's Day to you too!
LJ--I'm glad you told me! They are so tiny!!! And the glasses?? FAB, pally. Good choices!
Stephanie--Thanks, pally. I'm pooped though and I want to just sit and visit all your blogs! I'm gonna catch up this weekend.
Storm--Happy Mother's Day to you! Enjoy the weather! I got it all done just in time for the rain. Whew!
Ann--What time do you get up?? I'm almost afraid to ask. I hit the snooze button too, but I didn't tell you that part. It was a nice day working out in the yard. :) Happy Mother's Day to you too!
Vanilla7--Thanks, pally! I saw god smiling in lots of things outside yesterday. That's what I like about nature. :) Hobbes just liked the giant catnip plant we found.
Ratty--The seeds are awful this year!! Gees, there are so many of them. I'm ready for a quiet weekend to catch up on everyone's blogs--finally!
I'm very happy for you with all your good news - especially that you found a PT that will help you with your pain - yay! I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend Lin!
WAIT! STOP THE PRESSES! Did you say something about a humungo catnip plant? What's your neighbor's address? Will Hobbes share his righteous stash?
Oh, my human says Happy Mother's Day.
My irises are blooming right outside of my front door and they're beautimus. Like yours. This is the first I've heard of your pelvic floor and I can't wait to read more about it. Just kidding, I hope everything is ok with you. I know I made the promise to stick around bloggyland but the pool has been so INVITING every day that I've been out there with the kids instead.
Beaded Tail--I'm just glad that I found out that I am NOT nuts after all!
Sparkle--Yep! HUGE plant. I'll sneak you some, okay? :)
Casey--I know the feeling as I haven't been around the blogs myself either. Enjoy the pool, pally! I am officially jealous. Don't even ask about the pelvic floor--it's a long story. My butt hurts--a lot. That about sums it up.
