Spring, Baseball, and Peeps

Grace over at Hugz Before you Go reminded me of this:

It's my entry for the annual Peep contest that the Chicago Tribune holds each Easter. This lovely creation representing too much time on my hands was my entry 2 years ago. No, I didn't win, but it should have--well, me and my mother think so anyway. (That's what I love about mom's--they always think you should win.)

Here is a close-up of my "Field of Peeps" entry:

And what better an entry than the combination of White Sox baseball AND peeps?? Criminy, I'm thinking that contest was rigged.

Sigh.

Hey, Opening Day for baseball was yesterday and who can beat that?? Ah, nothing like spring and baseball. Add to that they won 7 - 0 with a fab play by Mark Buerhle. Go here to see a funky play that scored #1 on all of the highlights last night--perhaps all season. It's worth the go see, even if you aren't into baseball.

On another note--go see my pally, Merry, and send her good wishes on her battle with breast cancer, okay? She's scared and rightly so. She is a wife, mom, blogger, and true pally. Merry is forever sending us packages from Louisiana, corrupting us in the ways of beignets and Cajun spiced foods. She was sending me good wishes on my hiney the other day, all the while I had no idea what she was dealing with. But that is just how she is.

Go send her some blog pally love, okay??

Thanks for the mention - I love your little Peeps show.

I don't know, it looks like the runner and the ball got to first base simultaneously. I have seen more than my share of baseball games, with a little luck I will never have to see another. (I dated a sportswriter for a short time - press pass to all games - so NOT fun)

Love it!
My sister and her man entered the Washington Post's peep contest this year with 'Monty Peepthon and the Holy Grail: If She Weighs as Much as a Peep'. The peep Patsy has tiny coconuts, and they built the witch scale. And Camelot-- though its only a model. The bunny peep on the witch scale has a tiny carrot nose and a funnel on one ear.

Oh, and note to Grace-- my husband was the Sports Editor of a paper for several years. I actually made a fake press pass for myself with his pass, my driver's license, and a copier. So I could carry his camera. This would have been six kinds of awesome if it wasn't for HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.

I've seen the clip several times, and I have to say it will be a l-o-n-g season before anyone comes up with a more fantastical play!

Shieldmaiden96: you missed the point. There is no "sports" after high school, only business.

I think if you had put the peeps in blue pinstripes for the northsiders instead you would have WON!!!

You were robbed Lin. Totally should have won this. Yes, you do have a bit too much time on your hands I'm thinking but still...

You were totally robbed! Did you title it "Field of Dreams" just in case the judges were clueless (read STUPID)? Somehow I missed your entry. I always check out the Peeps contest. Great job!

Thanks for the bloggy love. You almost made me cry :) Buerhle's play was amazing. I so love baseball. I agree with everyone else about the Peep's contest. You were robbed!

I would say definitely that contest was rigged if you didn't win with that.

I don't think we get Peeps in Canada. At least I've never seen them. But they certainly seem to be a BIG part of Easter for you US folks. Aren't they made of marshmallow??

Grace--GRACE! I can't believe you thought the dude was safe after that beautiful toss and catch!! Yikes, Grace. You are tough to please, pally.

Shieldmaiden--I've got to go check that entry out--it sounds FAB!!

Vanilla--And that would be "my" Paulie makin' the one-handed catch. :) I love those boys of summer.

Melodie--Unless you use them in a diorama and they are loaded with glue. :(

Diana--Initially they are all White Sox players, so I go for accuracy, Diana.

Buggys--This was done 2 years ago--BEFORE I was working. Ah, the good 'ol days of free time.

Lola--This was from 2 years ago. I don't have time to eat Peeps these days, more or less make a diorama out of them.

Merry--Baseball rocks, doesn't it?? We are going to the game on Sunday--I'll be thinking of you. :)

Chuck--Hee! hee! Good one, Chuck.

Stephanie--I miss the days of having free time!!!!

Ann--I think you have to enter late in the contest. If you do it early like I did, folks sort of get weary by the time they scroll down to yours. :( Oh well, live and learn.

Verge--Hey, pally! Good to see you!! Glad you stopped in today. :)

Sharky--There is no racism amongst peeps! I'm going to check out the site now.....

LJ--Oh, I wish I would have known, I would have sent you some!! Yes, they are marshmallow with colored sugar on the outside. They are best eaten stale. YUM!

If I would have been on the voting committee I would have chosen "Field of Peeps" as the grand prize winner.

What better of a Monday can it be when the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cards both win. :-)

BeadedTail said...

Oh your Peeps show should have won! Maybe a picture of Hobbes would've sealed the deal!

Lin said...

Jodi--Nothing like an Opening Day win, eh Jodi?! Go Cards! Go Sox! :)

Beaded Tail--Do you think they sell orange peeps?? I could do an orange stripey one--LOL!

FishHawk said...

I have seen Buerhle's play at least a half dozen times now, and I still can't believe it. WOW! On the other hand, GO CARDS!!!

Lin said...

Fish--Oh, you gotta love a good play in baseball no matter what team, right?! I do. Happy Baseball Season, Fish! :)

Pricilla--I wonder if goats like peeps?? I'll bet they do!!! Thanks for sending Merry good wishes.

Stacie--Hey, let me see what's on the schedule that day! And who needs permission???! Sheesh, that'll be the day. :)
