Well, it was more like walking on the counters and taunting the dog.
Sammy's parents are always thanking us profusely for taking him in when they go away, apologizing for him terrorizing the kitties. It's always hard to explain to them that it is actually the contrary--the kitties terrorize and bully that poor dog to death. I'm forever saying "be nice to Sammy" and reassuring the poor dog with a gentle pat on his head. It is just awful how those two gang up on him, hissing and spitting at the poor guy and eating his dog food and daring him to do something about it. I am ashamed to admit that I raised two bullies.
Sammy is going home this morning, relieved to have his dog food and treats to himself and his family back. My two goofs are gonna go back to hissing and spitting at each other and looking for Sammy who left hours ago. In some way, I think they miss him when he leaves.
It's weird, but for one very small moment, Grace and Hobbes actually like each other--well, in comparison to the dog.

Cats are so funny! Our dog eats so fast, the cats don't get anywhere near her food!
I was going to say poor Sammy but then he's barking in cat territory so it should only be expected. I just love the way a cats mind works...lol
I would probably enjoy taunting Sammy, too. Sorry.
Poor little Sammy! Uh, Pru wonders if he'd like to come over here for a change.
Poor Sammy....! But, hey, at least the cats are getting along for a change, huh!! :)
This reminds me of some family gatherings I have been too!
Stifle your shame. One does not raise cats; she harbors them. They were just being cats. ;>)
Cute little dog.
Karen--Maybe they are afraid the dog will eat THEM! ;) It's funny because Hobbes is bigger than Sammy, but he fluffs up to intimidate the dog. Poor Sammy is terrified of those two.
Ann--Well, he is respectful that it is THEIR house after all, which is nice, but I do feel sort of sorry for the guy. He can't make a move without them watching him!
Daisy--Oh, they do enjoy that sport, Daisy. And he so nice to them! He is a very nice little dog who doesn't chase them or anything.
JD--You have to let him sleep with you, JD, that's his only downfall. That part sort of creeps me out, but we deal.
A.Marie--Yeah, they are SO mean to him. I walk around reassuring him and yelling at them to stop being mean. And he has these sweet little eyes that are very expressive that are telling me "help!"
Melodie--You know, you are RIGHT! Good point, Melodie!! :)That made me chuckle.
Vanilla--Whew. It's just so funny to see them align together against the Evil Dog--who is NOT evil, BTW. Silly cats.
Cute post as always my sweet friend.Awww poor Sammy :-)
I'm with Daisy, Hobbes and Grace - I would taunt Sammy too! The dog that lives here is ten times my size and she is a little scared of me.
BTW, my human knows a couple who have a wiener dog who is also named Sammy. Not the same Sammy, though - they live in Las Vegas.
Looks like the Nanook of The North couldn't care less about whats happening down there. Great pose as always from Orange Stripey...
Sammy loves it. Who are you kidding. Otherwise he would leave the cats alone.
United against the enemy. With 3 cats we notice how the alliances change according to their moods. I can't imagine any of my cats sharing space with a dog tho.
When we brought the new lab home in November he took off running and tipped over the cat tree and chased the cats before we finally put an end to that. But the first time he ran, knocking into Alex who loudly proclaimed after seeing the cat tree go flying and kitties go thumping "Gwamma!! You need to take that dog back to the dog store!! (shelter)
Ah one of those "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" pacts between cats. Did they swap spit or rub thorn-pierced paws?
I'm a HUMAN and I would love to taunt Sammy. I admire you for babysitting a dog. Yuk!!
Katherine--Thanks, pally. Yeah, I always feel so sorry for the little guy. He is so outnumbered without his family here. :( I'm on his side though.
Sparkle--That's so funny that you know a Sammy the Weiner Dog too! It is a fabulous name, isn't it?? I can see why the kitties like to tease dogs--they are just so easy to get a rise out of! Sammy gets all excited and barky at the littlest of things. Silly dogs.
Vanilla7--This is Hobbes pretending that he isn't teasing the dog, but he really is. He's rolling all around up there, just waiting for the dog to get worked up. It works every time--Sammy barks at them and sends them all scurrying.
Pricilla--Yeah, he would love to chase them and make a huge fuss barking, but we definitely don't allow that. So, he mostly just tries to stay clear of those two.
Grace--We do fine because we know he's only here temporarily. What really irks the cats is that he wants to sleep with us and the bed is already a bone of contention--everyone wants to claim that. Yeah, I don't want to live like that all the time.
Helene--He is very smart! :) Given half a chance, Sammy would tear after those kitties barking like a madman. In order to maintain some peace here, we don't allow that to even begin. Gees, dogs bark LOUD.
Rebecca--Even YOU???! Wow. I like him, although it is hard to get used to having a dog around. He is very dependent on humans and that is not something I'm used to. He follows me around everywhere! Thanks for the image in my mind of Grace and Hobbes commiserating in the bedroom and high-fiving each other in their planning revenge on the dog. :)
hahaha, that is adorable. Poor Sammy. He probably is waiting at the door for his people to come back home just so he can have the toys and food all to himself again.
They are just too cute to be bullies! :)
I think Maggie missed V-8 after she died, even though the mostly ignored each other.
My daughter comes for the weekend and brings her two dogs, then we are dealing with 2 small dogs (mine) 2 indigent cats (mine) and other small dog and a moose.
There is so much taunting, bulling and whining that we are glad when our precious leaves and takes her gang with her.
Your cat looks to have no cares in the world. The dog on the other hand ....
Haha! Love it! Kitties know when it's a good thing to stick together ~ to fight a common foe!
Chocolate--I guess poor Sammy passed out when he went home--he couldn't sleep very well here with the kitties teasing him. Poor thing!
Sharky--I think they do miss each other. My kitties walk all over looking for Sammy when he leaves, but I think they miss his dog food more than him.
Highway--That sounds CRAZY!!!
LJ--Oh, that photo is very deceiving! That is Hobbes totally taunting the dog because he knows Sammy can't get him up there. Hobbes knows exactly what he is doing!
Catherine--Oh, they are bad those two. I swear they were high-fiving each other.
