It was a chilly fall day
when the farmer spied the little sparrow lying on its back in the middle of his field.
The farmer stopped his plowing,
looked down at the frail, feathered creature and inquired,
"Why are you lying upside down like that?"
looked down at the frail, feathered creature and inquired,
"Why are you lying upside down like that?"
"I heard the sky is going to fall today," replied the bird.
The old farmer chuckled.
"And I suppose your spindly little legs can hold up the sky?"
The old farmer chuckled.
"And I suppose your spindly little legs can hold up the sky?"

Oooohhh...I like that!! :)
Your mom sounds awesome and the orange kitty in the picture wins my heart EVERY TIME!
That is a GREAT picture of Hobbes - made me smile...
Nice to see that Hobbes is doing his part to save the world, and remaining calm about his duties.
Thank you Hobbes, for holding up the sky for the rest of us. It is a plucky little cat who will save the world.
Sparrow shmarrow. I'm feeling more like Hobbes today.
That's cute.
Your mom rocks.
Of course, you already knew that.
HOBBES!
A wise mother, and an insight into her daughter's courage.
Wow.. i love that!!!!!!! Very inspirational!!!!!!! TEll mom...xoxoxoxoox
I love your Mom's little story. You keep holding up the world for the rest of us and we will try every day to do our part.
Wonderful words of wisdom from your mom! And of course adorable demonstration by Hobbes!
Good for you for standing up for your beliefs!
Ah ok, now I see where you get your smarts from :) Your mom's story is cute and very inspirational.
I think the storytelling apple doesn't fall far from the tree in your family. Now get your mom setup with a blog.
The sparrow has a little help from Hobbes!
Your mom has a great lesson in that story!
Thanks for sharing such a great sentiment. Now if I could only do it without stressing out!
Lydia
A.Marie-- I did too. :)
DG--I was looking and looking through my photos to see what would fit--Hobbes is always the right choice. :)
Grace--Isn't he a goof?? Good to know he's saving us.
Sharky--Yeah, he isn't too concerned, is he??
Anne--He's my hero. An orange stripey hero.
Chuck--Is that a good thing?? I think so. He is pretty carefree.
Lola--:)
JD--She was dead on with that one, wasn't she?? And of course, combined with a photo of Hobbes, we can't miss!
Vanilla--Takes one to know one! ;) My mom taught me a long time ago that if you are going to stand up for something, be prepared to stand alone. Wise woman, eh?
Natalee--She reads the blog, so I'm sure she read your comment too. :) I'm sure she appreciates it.
Highway--Yep. Me and Hobbes are doing our part here.
Beaded Tail--I tried to retire from my activist days, but I keep getting called back to duty. Sigh.
Ann--I'm not sure it's "smarts", but we are pretty strong women.
Casey--Oh, god help us all!! :)
Chocolate--It's a good lesson for all of us, isn't it??
Verge--Well, I think that is the point--we can only do what we can do and not more. So, why worry about what we can't change??? Breathe deep, my friend. :)
That was sweet of your mom. It's always nice to know someone has your back
Lin: I posted the hummingbird pictures.
I love that, thank you! And good for you too!
Pricilla--We are two peas in a pod, so she gets me and my activist self. :)
LJ--I'm LOVIN' them!!! Thanks for sharing them. Very COOL! :)
Jennifer--It's one of those things you need to keep posted somewhere--just to remind you. :) I liked it too.
That is a great little story. And the picture made me laugh out loud. Hobbes has a lot of character.
You GO girl!! Love the post - what a wise Momma you have. ;o)
Like mother, like daughter.
Two very courageous ladies. And a very cute cat.
I'm quite reserved in person and will normally keep things to myself even if the subject/topic angers me. So I'm glad for plucky sparrows. They're my heroes! D
How cool is it that your mom supports you like that. Very sweet!
When I saw the photo of Hobbes on his back with a look of utter pleasure on his face, I thought that maybe he had EATEN the sparrow! Oh well.
Lin, your Hobbes photo are magical :D I got a strong urge to follow his pose...my legs... can't stop..up!
Ratty--Well, he isn't quite the bird photo I was looking for, but it'll do. Who else but Hobbes would have a photo of themselves on the ground with their feet in the air???
Split Rock--It's a good reminder, isn't it? I liked the story a lot too.
Veronica--The word "spunky" comes up a lot when describing us. :) I think that is good, right?
Nessa--Really??! I'm very outspoken, so I guess we'd make a good team. :) Let me know when you need me to stick up for you.
Nanny--We gals are very outspoken, a trait that isn't always good. We get into trouble a lot.
Sparkle--Hobbes lays like that in the yard and chatters at all the birds who fly over him. I think he is too lazy to try and catch them!
Vanilla7--I go out and lay in the grass with him because he is such a great example of relaxation. Although I don't go belly up--that wouldn't be pretty!
That's a very good parable. We all have to keep doing what we can.
