Damn you, Harry Potter!

Levator Ani--it's the new words in my vocabulary. Straight out of Hogwarts, eh?

Although it sounds like something Harry Potter and the gang would say, it's actually just a muscle--a pelvic muscle. One that spasms sometimes. And the doctor thinks that's what I've got going on.

So, while I'm going through some fun tests like a colonoscopy and a CT scan to eliminate any other more serious diagnosis, it's sort of anti-climatic, isn't it? It's a freaking muscle spasm???! Okay, so it hurts, a lot, to sit down after a few hours--especially at work. But can it really be this silly syndrome that makes that pelvic muscle grimace and cause me so much pain?

Sheesh. Why do I get all the weird stuff?

The good news is if that is the "official" diagnosis, it can be eased with some simple things like walking, hot baths, muscle relaxants, etc. and no surgery is required. The bad news is that I don't know how long this will hang on for. And it really hurts when I sit--and I like to sit sometimes. Not sitting is not an option. Most folks have to sit sometimes.

So, while you are enjoying your sofas, Adirondack chairs, bar stools, and recliners, just take a moment and think of me................standing.

Expelliarmus, levator ani syndrome!

Uh huh. LIke when I go to the doctor with a fever and he tells me its allergy and sends me home with allergy medicine. Twice. Two different doctors. Two different years. Ugh.

Hope you find a way to have a restful weekend!

Thanks so much Lin!

My kids used to sing that song constantly! It got soooo bad one day that I had asked them to stop...as kids do they continued...and me being the Mom "with the power"...I sent them to their rooms!

I am now sending you to your room to "stand" in the corner!

I had never heard the song in the puppet show but thanks to you it is stuck in my head. (Although it was very cute and fantastic and damn you now I can't use it!)

I'll try slouching a little less today in your honor because I cannot commit to the not sitting thing.

Only you Lin! Never heard of this and I'm not certain I have one of those muscles. All in all though, it could be way worse.

I love the puppet pals. They crack me up.

Well, at least it isn't serious....
Maybe you erm, need to exercise more. erm.

Happy Weekend!

Oh my a life without sitting is just unthinkable. I hope that clears up really really soon so you can sit happy and painfree for long periods of time.

Sitting does a body good.

LOL!

I'm so glad it's nothing that require surgery-- thank God! But what a pain in the... well, you know.

I sit all day, typing at my computer. :-p I will surely think of you as I do. But the hot baths sounds great! I don't get those...

I had spasms in my lower back muscles. The doctor said drink a glass of wine after work or I'll write a script for pills. I tried the pills. My vision got blurry. Threw them away and tried the wine. I didn't like it, but it worked. Wishing you all the best.

Well thank god it's nothing serious, but nonetheless your problem is still a real pain in the butt :) If it would make you feel better I could share with you some of the weird things I've managed to get over the years, just so you know you aren't alone.

Helene--I would doubt him but when I read the symptoms, they are exactly what I am going through. Weird.

Catherine--This video comes from the kids--they were driving me nuts singing this for the longest time! (See Wendy's comment below) I have a very limited amount of pain pills that help, but I save them for the end of the day. I'll have to see what he prescribes for the long haul.

Jodi--Thanks, pally.

Grace--No use crying, right? I love when I tell folks that name and they just look at me like "WHAT???!"

Wendy--My kids annoyed the bajeepers out of me with this one too!! If you can't beat them, join them, right?? ;)

Highway--Sitting IS good, isn't it?? See? It's tough not to sit. Sigh. I think you can use the song--it is too fun not to. :)

Buggys--Yeah, who knew you had one of those??! Leave it to me to find that out. Sigh. And yes, you have one of them too--impress your friends with that one at the next party!

Pricilla--It isn't about exercise, but I think a hormonal thing that can cause it. I've read that estrogen loss can cause it. That would be about right these days--my age dictates that may be the case.

Tracy--Well, I'd just settle for being able to sit for work. Standing and writing at work is gonna be a big bummer. I may need a higher desk.

Rebecca--Well, when you re-do the plumbing, be sure to put in a sweet tub for soaking! Sitting at the computer nearly kills me and add to that, that I come home and do the blog hop thing! Ugh. That is why I haven't been as good at visiting as I should. It literally is a pain in my butt.

Sharky--After this is all said and done, I may have logged more miles than you!! ;)

Chuck--We went to Wendy's house last weekend and I drank nearly a whole bottle of wine myself--and you know, I didn't feel my butt problem! I think your doctor is on the right track. I think it's best for me to take the pain pill rather than get loaded each night. ;)

Ann--It's just so.....weird! Try explaining this one to folks and they all just look at me weird. Whatever. It is what it is and I'm dealing. I just hope there is a more substantial plan for dealing with this after I have been officially diagnosed. It is good to know I'm not dying.

Natalee--That is my secret punishment for all of you who are giggling. That song has a real way of sticking in your craw! Sorry.

Well, while I'm sure you were hoping for something more glamorous sounding to write about... I'm glad it's something not too major!

Ouch! I thought my knee was sore, but I don't think I could manage the pain when sitting. I love to sit and do things. Get better soon.

So sorry about your situation, Lin.

Thanks for sharing the video/song.

Hope your butt gets better soon.

((hugs))

Hubby was siting on the couch as I was listening to the video. " I thought you had things to do" he says.. "I doing it" I replied. Quite a strange video. so sorry about your painful spasm. zI have a leg ache that will not go away and of course it was done during a surgery, so Needless to say I will not let them go back in to repair it. Cause I do not think it can be repaired by them! Hope you find a way to alleviate the pain.

Pricilla said...

I wasn't talking about standard exercise...erm

Did I comment on this? It made me laugh out loud. Well, done, Lin-lady!

Lin said...

Cute--I guess I'm relieved it isn't much to write about, I don't want any excitement around here. It's just so weird, isn't it??

Marilynne--The sitting is the WORST! Especially at the end of the day when you just want to sit and watch TV to relax. Nope. Can't do that without meds. I'm hoping we can figure something out about that part.

Veronica--That made me laugh, pally. :) It's funny, but it isn't that I have a sore butt.

Auntie E--I feel better after walking around or taking a hot bath, but I'm hoping for a more permanent solution. You know how painful this can be--especially on your butt. Sorry about B the bird. :(

Pricilla--Ohhhhhh. ;) I get it.

Sharky--Nobody has heard of this muscle, Sharky, NOBODY. So when I tell folks what it is, I guess this weird silence. Leave it to me to find something new to have to explain. Ugh.

So glad to hear that it is nothing serious! A bit uncomfortable, but at least you don't have that worry of dealing with something life changing. Hot baths and a nice walk sounds like great therapy! Get better soon.
